Protaras Coastline: Your Look at the Blue Lagoon & Sea Caves
The southeast coast of Cyprus has, more or less, some incredibly beautiful places, and the Protaras region? Very much a shining example. It is a place known for its perfect blue water, raw coastal beauty, and that overall sense of adventure hanging in the air. Taking a boat tour out to see the Blue Lagoon and the Sea Caves really is one of those “must-do” things, right? After having done it, well, I wanted to give a rundown, sharing just what you can expect and whether this popular trip is maybe worth your time and money.
Why You Should Check Out the Blue Lagoon and Sea Caves
Alright, what’s the deal here? So, it is simple. The Blue Lagoon’s water is known for that almost unreal turquoise coloring. It feels like someplace photoshopped, that is, until you actually see it. The Sea Caves? They are these rock formations, carved out by the waves over years and years, which gives a great look and maybe some awesome photo chances. Honestly, putting the two things together, well, it sounds like something right out of a travel brochure, right? But seeing it firsthand? Very much a special feel. It really is kind of gorgeous seeing how nature does its thing. What I appreciated the most was being able to see these natural wonders right next to one another – it showed the diversity of the Cypriot coastline.
Picking the Perfect Boat Tour
Lots of choices are out there for touring. Some boats? They are those big party boats, complete with music pumping and drinks flowing. Some are smaller, maybe more for getting a relaxing feel. Think about what experience that, arguably, you want. My advice? Read a whole lot of reviews. See what people mention about how crowded it usually gets, how great the staff is, and most important, whether or not the boat feels clean and kept in tip-top condition. As I was saying, be mindful that some trips usually tend to focus more on drinking and partying, while others make swimming and seeing the views the big draw. Do some digging and, basically, discover a tour that matches what your thing is.
What a Tour is Like, Step-by-Step
So, you get to the harbor, and it is almost like a little hive of activity. The boat is going to likely head off toward the Blue Lagoon, which gives amazing views of the coastline all the way. Some tours usually will tell you some information about the region and a few stories along the way, though keep in mind it can vary a little bit. Once you reach the Blue Lagoon, the boat usually stops for a swim. The water? So unbelievably clear. Make sure that you bring your snorkeling gear if you want to see a little bit below the surface. After the Blue Lagoon, it is that time to cruise by the Sea Caves. Most boats will pass quite slowly so everybody has that perfect look and gets their fill of photos. Certain tours might, in some respects, include a stop near Fig Tree Bay, too, giving you one more swimming chance.
What I Liked (and Didn’t)
What was great? I will say it was really something being in that totally see-through water of the Blue Lagoon. Being able to swim there was really an amazing moment. And seeing the Sea Caves from the water? Really cool. It does give that special point of view that you can not get from land. Still, I would say, make certain you go on a day when things are a bit calmer. The boat really did feel crowded, which really made moving around and getting great shots hard sometimes. And keep in mind, that, even though most tours tell you food and drink, some may charge extra, so find out ahead of time.
Making the Most of the Trip: Advice and Stuff to Bring
First thing is first: sunscreen. Basically, that sun here? It is no joke. Really use it frequently. Bring a hat and glasses, too, to protect from the light. If you have got a waterproof camera, absolutely bring that! You are going to really want pictures from this adventure. So, bring some cash in case you want any snacks or drinks on board. I would say, too it’s almost, wear a swimsuit under clothes to save time changing. And listen closely to the crew. These guys know their stuff, so it is good to do what they say to stay safe and have fun.
Is This Trip Worth It?
In short, yes, without a doubt. As I was saying, a trip out to the Blue Lagoon and Sea Caves shows a great view of Protaras’ coastline, right? Still, do that smart thing. Pick the trip based on what that, arguably, you want out of it, be sure you come ready, and accept that things get kind of busy. But if you do? This could really wind up being something awesome from your time in Cyprus. From what I saw, it really brings a good mix of views and activities, which makes it a “must-do” item when visiting the area.
