Omis Bol Golden Horn Beach Boat Trip: An In-Depth Review

Omis Bol Golden Horn Beach Boat Trip: An In-Depth Review

So, you’re thinking of checking out the Omis Bol Golden Horn Beach boat trip, huh? Maybe you’ve seen the pictures: the gleaming Adriatic, a boat practically daring you to jump aboard, and Zlatni Rat (that’s the Golden Horn) calling your name. It all looks, that, pretty dreamy, doesn’t it? But is it actually as great as everyone makes out, or is it, that, just another tourist trap? Well, you know, I recently took that trip, and I’m going to give it to you straight, the, umm, good, the not-so-good, and whether or not it’s something you should spend your vacation money on.

Setting Sail from Omis: What to Anticipate

Omis Harbor

Okay, so the whole thing kicks off in Omis, this picturesque small town cradled, actually, by the Cetina River and those really dramatic cliffs. Finding the boat can, arguably, be a bit of a small search; a bunch of companies run this trip, and it is not always immediately apparent which boat belongs to which tour. Getting there ahead of schedule is what you should do; then you, usually, won’t feel pressured. That done, when you get on board, it tends to be, usually, a fairly sizeable vessel, room aplenty to stretch out and, usually, soak up the sun. Keep an eye out because some boats pack you in tighter than sardines in a tin; you’ll want to ask about capacity ahead of time. This can change your whole experience.

As the boat slips its moorings, the vistas start to unfold. That winding Cetina River snaking its way into the Adriatic is something to see; really, the rock faces looming high on both sides make you feel you’ve gone into another place. The trip to Bol takes a fair while – could be an hour and a half, could even be two, possibly, depending on the boat and the sea conditions. You get a look at the Dalmatian coast from a really different point; just think sheer cliffs giving way to secret bays. Many boat operators, that, will crack out the refreshments (water, juice, maybe something stronger is, actually, often available for purchase). A few play music, too; whether that’s, that, a pro or a con hinges on your personal preference, I reckon. Make sure your dancing shoes are back home! And just keep your eyes out for dolphins!

Golden Horn (Zlatni Rat) Beach: Is It Really All That?

Zlatni Rat Beach Aerial View

Then, after the relaxing trip, you get your initial sight of Zlatni Rat. And oh, it’s rather beautiful, you have to concede. That shingle spit sticking elegantly out into the Adriatic, shifting its shape a tiny bit depending on the currents. This looks, actually, stunning in pictures, and seeing it from the sea, is pretty neat. The boat will moor in Bol, the town, and from there, you are faced with around a 15-minute stroll to get to the beach itself.

Zlatni Rat draws, definitely, big crowds, especially in the high summer months. Claiming a great spot involves an attitude that’s more gung-ho than lackadaisical and being more eager to move forward and get where you wish to be, as quickly as possible. That’s, usually, sunbeds and umbrellas available for hire if you want them. If you favor spreading your towel right on the beach, you, of course, can. The sea is beautifully crystalline, usually, perfect for swimming, that is. Because the beach shelves quickly, this could be something to consider with kids. A heap of water sports available there, also; Jet skis, paddle boards, all of those kinds of things.

My thoughts? Yeah, Zlatni Rat is definitely handsome, certainly; I’d not go quite so far as saying it completely lives up to all the hype, you see. It can get packed, rather, and the shingle isn’t really the most comfortable to lie on for long stretches. A solid pair of swimming shoes, typically, isn’t a bad shout. Also, maybe a good book. The views, though, they actually do merit the visit. You need, even though, to know going in that you won’t be having the place all to yourself. One last thought: bring something to protect you from the sun! It gets fairly hot out there.

Lunch on Board: What’s Cooking?

Dalmatian Lunch

Alright, so lunch! Let’s talk about this. Loads of these trips include lunch as part of the price. Expect something more along the lines of simple rather than haute cuisine. This, basically, isn’t a fancy restaurant we’re talking about here. The meals, too, often showcase grilled fish or chicken with some salad and bread. They actually are fairly decent, especially given the number of people they’re, naturally, catering to, also.

The thing is, the ambiance is, you know, great! Imagine, sort of, eating your meal out on deck, with the stunning backdrop of the Croatian coast. It doesn’t actually get much better than that. I find, mostly, they are catering to all tastes and palates, providing drinks alongside food which you can normally buy. So, a small heads up; beverages don’t, often, come included in the price, just keep it in your thoughts, I reckon.

Is the Omis Bol Boat Trip Worth It? The Honest Verdict

Adriatic Sea Croatia

So, bottom line; is the Omis Bol Golden Horn Beach boat trip actually worth your time and cash? So, to me, the response has many aspects to it, actually. Should you are chasing a super peaceful, off-the-beaten-track sort of experience, you probably won’t find it here. But! Should you fancy seeing Zlatni Rat from the water, have fun and excitement with a crowd and have a delicious dinner outdoors, while sunbathing and watching landscapes, then this actually is a brilliant little outing. Just keep in the back of your mind that it can get really rather crowded, that is. And, actually, go armed with swimwear, sunscreen, and, definitely, an appetite for adventure.

If you like your holidays more spontaneous, you may find the boat trips and its timings slightly irritating. You may wish to, instead, go off at random to fulfill those spontaneous urges and longings, something the day trip would disallow. If that is the case, then just be aware.

Here are a couple of very quick pros and cons for the speed readers.

  • Pros: Excellent coastal views, the amazing Zlatni Rat, lunch, swimming possibilities, all organized.
  • Cons: Can feel packed, Zlatni Rat does get rather crowded, shingle beach can get uncomfortable under foot.
