From St Julian’s: Comino & Blue Lagoon Powerboat Trip Review

Picture this, if you will: you’re smack dab in St Julian’s, Malta, alright, and the Mediterranean sun is beaming. Now, the idea of skipping off to Comino and the Blue Lagoon is, like, totally tempting, right? A powerboat tour seems like just the ticket to whip you there and back, packed with sights and maybe even a thrill or two. I recently hopped on one of these very trips, and I have to share how it all went down, stuff like what really stood out, and if, perhaps, it lived up to the dreamy ads.

First Impressions and Setting Sail

So, the adventure started, as they often do, rather early-ish in St Julian’s. Now, finding the meeting point wasn’t really tricky, you know; it was all pretty well-marked, which is certainly a big plus when you’re half-awake and totally eager. When I spotted the boat, well, it looked really ready for a snappy ride. I have to say, there’s something, like, super thrilling about seeing a speedboat all set to go, promising splashes and sights.

That is, once everyone was aboard, the captain ran through a little safety talk. Naturally, these are pretty key, but, you know, this one was short and snappy, which is always appreciated because it’s, like, nobody really wants to listen to a lecture when they’re amped up for a sun-soaked ride. Afterward, we zoomed off, with the coastline zipping past; honestly, it was almost an instant mood lifter. Seriously, seeing Malta from the sea offers such an entirely new slant, very different from just, say, strolling along the street.

Cruising Towards Comino

As the powerboat zipped, the captain started, very skillfully, offering up bits of info regarding the landmarks that we passed, which added a dash of, like, culture to the rush. Now, seeing spots such as St. Paul’s Island, it was neat to hear a little backstory; that, as a matter of fact, gave the scenery a slightly richer feel, kind of making you connect a little more to the space. Too, the boat really picked up pace after that, getting the sea spray going and making everything a tad more awesome. Though that trip was certainly exciting, very zippy, it could be, in a way, that some people found it somewhat bouncy, which you should, like, probably consider, particularly if your back isn’t that strong.

The Alluring Blue Lagoon

And then—boom—we arrived at the Blue Lagoon. Right away, the sight is simply, like, WOW. You know, the water looks incredibly, almost ridiculously blue and clear; I mean, I understand entirely why it’s so iconic. So, the powerboat anchored, which, to be honest, was fairly close to shore, that it gave us the ability to basically hop straight into that tantalizing water.

That is, the lagoon was a little crowded; but, hey, you likely expect that, particularly during, like, peak season. Despite the folks around, when you get in the water, it nearly feels like, you know, it’s just you and this crazy-turquoise universe. I would say I easily spent a pair of hours paddling, chilling on a floatie, and generally drinking up the scene. Of course, if you love swimming, then you likely know, this place is definitely paradise. You should probably note, too, that there are, really, food vendors nearby to buy snacks and cold drinks; but in my opinion, anyway, it’s always more reliable to bring along your own, because the prices can climb just a bit.

Exploring Comino’s Hidden Gems

While most of the peeps stuck close to the Blue Lagoon, I chose to wander off, very exploring-style, just to check out a little more of Comino. So, the island itself is actually pretty tiny, yet that gives it kind of an intimate charm. That is, walking some of the paths brings you to smaller, nearly private coves that may provide some relief away from the main tourist traffic. I stumbled, you know, across a seriously pretty spot just along the north side where I went for a very speedy dip in crystal-clear waters by myself – now, that, clearly, was total bliss.

Of course, you can also visit the Comino Tower which offers panoramic views, should you feel like stretching your legs just a little further. It gives some cool, historical perspective on the island too, as I was saying. To be honest, Comino really seems great for just unwinding and reconnecting a little with, well, mother nature; remember that the rugged landscape adds something, like, entirely more unique than only swimming in an incredible lagoon.

Pit Stop at the Crystal Lagoon

As we started heading, nearly back, the powerboat dropped anchor at the Crystal Lagoon, very similar to the Blue Lagoon but arguably, like, quite a bit less crowded. What is super-cool about the Crystal Lagoon seems the seriously dramatic cliffs enclosing the water; a lot of people jump straight off these cliffs, too it’s almost quite exciting to simply watch, even if, that is, you opt to not participate.

Basically, the water looked remarkably inviting for snorkeling; truthfully, I was really, really happy that I packed my gear. Below, I spotted different sorts of fish, which all shimmered around rock outcrops; actually, it was definitely one of those underwater sights which stick with you. That said, you have to watch for boats if you plan on swimming further out, since the Crystal Lagoon, similarly to the Blue Lagoon, is one spot with considerable boat traffic. As far as safety goes, being mindful and keeping yourself visible helps a lot to ensuring a secure, fulfilling snorkel.

The Ride Back: Reflections on the Day

That is, when the tour came almost to its end and we headed back toward St Julian’s, the sun was setting. As a matter of fact, seeing the sun’s orange rays painting the Maltese coast caused one of those, well, ideal times. Thinking over the events from the day, that St Julian’s to Comino powerboat tour clearly provides something of a jam-packed adventure, rather quickly whisking people away to various amazing spots.

While parts, such as the Blue Lagoon, are inclined to get seriously busy, exploring Comino beyond these major tourist hotspots will definitely offer tranquil alternatives. Should the thrills of quick rides combined with fantastic swim opportunities appeal, I mean, I would say, then this trip very likely would be a success for you. Obviously, preparing beforehand by carrying, just like, sunblock, enough to hydrate, and possibly treats really heightens the experience, making it extra chill.
