Firth of Forth Bridges Cruise: An In-Depth Review

Firth of Forth Bridges

Right, are you thinking about taking the Edinburgh Firth of Forth Three Bridges Sightseeing Cruise? Or maybe you’re searching for fun day trips from Edinburgh? Actually, I went on this cruise a while back, and so it’s almost time I gave you the inside scoop. I want to tell you exactly what you can expect, share some tips, and, in some respects, help you decide if it’s a good choice for your travel plans.

Setting Sail on the Firth of Forth

Forth of Forth Cruise

First, this cruise leaves from South Queensferry, which is, just a little way outside Edinburgh. If you’re getting there, you might choose the train – very easy. I think you can take a bus, too. Arriving in South Queensferry, you are hit by this sort of quaint, old-world feeling. And so it’s hard to believe you’re so close to a major city.

Boarding the boat is, like your first little thrill. Pretty much there’s an anticipation in the air, you know? People are excited to get going. So, too it’s important to get there early enough to snag a good seat, preferably on the open deck if the weather isn’t a bit rubbish.

Witnessing Engineering Marvels

Then, as you cruise, the three bridges become, in that case, the stars of the show. Each bridge is amazing, so to hear a bit about its history and construction, that tends to be really interesting.

First, there’s the Forth Bridge, so an old railway bridge. This, in a way, is the real showstopper, okay? It looks striking with its red colour and cantilever design. I want to say, the sheer scale of this thing has, in fact, made me stand with my mouth open. And then to think about all those people who built it back in the Victorian era – completely mind-blowing.

Next up, is that the Forth Road Bridge? I am sure, I learned it used to carry all the vehicle traffic before the newest bridge was built. As I was saying, the views from this vantage point give an entirely different outlook than just driving over it.

The Queensferry Crossing is, might be, the third bridge. I believe this one is, naturally, a modern marvel. So, too it’s very graceful, with its sleek design, really showing how engineering has evolved.

Wildlife Encounters on the Water

Forth Seabirds

Anyway, it isn’t just bridges you are going to look at, just a little. And so it’s very much about the wildlife you might encounter too. On my cruise, anyway, we saw seals lounging on the rocks, apparently. So, too it’s worth having your camera ready for photo opportunities.

You will see loads of different birds as well, typically. When you’re lucky you spot puffins, which I find completely adorable, but maybe not that time. Of course, just remember to bring binoculars to get a closer look.

Onboard Experience: Comfort and Amenities

Of course, these cruises tend to offer a pretty good range of amenities to, for instance, make the experience comfortable, okay? So, there are indoor and outdoor seating areas, alright. In that case you can hide out if the weather changes its mind.

Typically there is, still, a café or bar onboard serving drinks and snacks, which is alright, in fact. Really you might want to get yourself a hot coffee or tea – it depends on the weather, I suppose, but it warms you up nicely.

Is This Cruise Right for You?

Family on Cruise

So, should you hop on this cruise? Is it, as a matter of fact, the right thing for you to do? Arguably this trip is pretty amazing for all age groups. Actually I saw families with children having a wonderful time, actually.

And then you get photography enthusiasts – well, they love it because, you know, you get the chance to capture all these distinctive images from special angles. I find history buffs are quite thrilled, anyway, to get to see the famous bridges and hear all those cool facts.

Finally, people search for relaxation. On the other hand, people searching for relaxation might discover a delightful time to unwind on the water and enjoy the picturesque views. This activity, by the way, can provide relaxation if you wish.
