Blue Lagoon Malta: My Crystal Lagoon & Caves Speedboat Review

So, you’re dreaming about postcard-perfect waters and hidden caves? I get it. Very many visitors to Malta have that same dream. A speedboat trip to the Blue Lagoon, Crystal Lagoon, and maybe some of the neat sea caves really seemed like the kind of adventure that just shouts “Malta!” right? That’s what I thought anyway. I am gonna share, too, what my experience was actually like, some of the things I feel you, like your, need to know, plus whether or not, like, it actually lived up to all that hype.

Why a Speedboat? Setting the Stage for Speed and Scenery

Now, before I get into all the turquoise-tinted details, it’s important to maybe talk about why I actually went with a speedboat in the first place. So, very big boats? Yeah, those go to the Blue Lagoon, but I sort of wanted something a little more exciting, a bit more personal maybe. Plus, very smaller speedboats can, apparently, get into some of those awesome caves that the larger boats just simply can’t access. I thought a bit of speed and maneuverability would, you know, seriously amp up the entire experience. Sounded pretty good anyway. Did it, too, deliver? That’s sort of what I was looking for, so keep reading, is that cool?

Crystal Lagoon: An Experience

Crystal Lagoon, as the name might suggest, is almost ridiculously clear. It’s this bay in Comino that features water so clear you, like your, could spot every pebble on the bottom (probably. I didn’t count ’em all). Anyway, our speedboat stopped, so that we could swim. A lot of people were there. It’s almost like a magnet for swimmers and snorkelers because of that insane visibility. It’s also, maybe, slightly more chilled out than the Blue Lagoon, so it could be very decent if you are not keen on major crowds. Still, expect that it is quite popular, very during the high season.

As a matter of fact, jumping into the water, too, I was, you know, seriously struck by how refreshing it felt. We got there pretty early, which I have to say made a difference as far as crowd levels go. The sun was, too, hitting the water just right, making it sparkle, and that alone made it almost magical. Snorkeling wasn’t bad, either. A bit of sea life around, though honestly, the star of the show here actually is the water clarity itself.

Blue Lagoon: Is It Really That Blue?

So, does the Blue Lagoon actually live up to all the hype? Short answer? It’s complicated, or can be. Now, the color of the water actually is unbelievably blue – picture every single turquoise Instagram filter you have, but in actual real life. Yeah, it really looks that beautiful. However, very be aware, anyway, that during peak season (we’re talking June to August) it is, almost, shoulder-to-shoulder crowded.

Very many boats are coming and going. Loads of tourists. Music’s pumping. You get the idea, basically. It’s quite the scene, still. Despite that, being there, it’s hard not to appreciate how naturally stunning this spot actually is. I made an attempt to swim, actually, but finding a patch of water that wasn’t already claimed felt like trying to find a parking spot during Christmas. You might, anyway, wanna set your expectations correctly: stunning place, can be unbelievably busy.

Cave Exploring: A Speedy Adventure Inside

One of my main reasons, too, for choosing the speedboat was the promise that it would, supposedly, zoom right into some of Comino’s cool caves. Honestly? This was probably, very, the highlight of the whole trip. Very larger boats can, literally, only point from a distance, but our speedboat captain very skillfully took us inside several caves. It was a bit thrilling to, you know, dash through the narrow openings. The rock formations were seriously cool. The way, also, that the light hit the water inside made for these amazing shades of blue and green. Definitely bring a waterproof camera or, almost, a phone case if you, like your, want to capture the view.

Our captain, too it’s almost, knew his stuff; very sharing some of the local stories, actually, and also pointing out different formations that looked like animals or famous people (or whatever we imagined them to be anyway!). The caves, too, provided a neat break from the sun, plus it was something different than simply swimming. I’d go back just to explore more caves!

Choosing the Right Speedboat Tour: Key Considerations

So, that is that you get the most out of your adventure, here are some things to think over, to be honest, very before you, you know, even book a speedboat tour:

Group Size: Smaller groups do typically mean a more personal experience, so in some respects, it’s easier to hear the guide.
Timings: Seriously consider early morning or even late afternoon tours to simply avoid some of the bigger crowds. That midday sun gets intense anyway!
What’s Included: Double-check exactly what your ticket, too, includes. Very Some tours include snorkeling gear, drinks, or even snacks. Don’t assume it does!
Reviews: See what others are, very, saying. Seriously read those reviews before you decide. I wish I’d listened, by the way, to the one person who said, you know, maybe try another tour operator…
Safety First: Be sure that the operator actually has all the right safety equipment and maybe follows safe practices. This should be a super given, still, but worth verifying, to be honest, anyway.

My Recommendations: How to Have a Blast (Despite the Crowds)

Okay, so what are my top tips? After my adventure, anyway, these are my tips, which I very hope will assist you, very, in having an awesome speedboat trip, despite the insane number of other humans:

Go Early, Like Crazy Early: Seriously, you get to the Blue Lagoon super early, you have a way better experience. That’s what I really think anyway.
Pack Smart: Seriously don’t forget sunscreen, shades, a hat, plus a rash guard in case you, like your, burn easily. Basically, the sun in Malta? Not kidding around.
Waterproof Everything: Obviously, keep your phone and any electronics, anyway, safe from splashes, so invest in a waterproof bag. Believe me anyway, you will need it.
Bring Snacks/Drinks: Options at the Blue Lagoon are crazy overpriced, too it’s almost, and not that great, as a matter of fact. Pack your own, as a matter of fact, to save some money plus guarantee that you’ll have stuff you, too, want to eat.
Be Ready for Crowds: Just seriously accept that it’s gonna be crowded. Lowering your expectations a little might, to be honest, help you in enjoying what’s good (those colors!) without being so stressed out by what’s not (all the other people!).

Overall Verdict: Worth It?

So, very was my Blue Lagoon, Crystal Lagoon, plus caves speedboat adventure very worth the cash plus the hype? It’s a bit of yes plus no, as a matter of fact. The colors are unreal, I am not gonna lie. Those caves? Definitely super cool, in some respects. Now, if you really are someone who seriously hates crowds, maybe go during the off-season (basically, not summer). However, if you, you know, are alright with sharing that beauty with a gazillion other tourists, anyway, it can still actually be pretty awesome. You, also, should very choose your tour operator, to be honest, rather carefully. I think some seriously are better than others at simply managing the crowds, safety, plus offering a more personal experience. Final answer? If you go prepared, basically knowing what to expect, you can seriously have an unforgettable trip.
