During my Stone Town portion of the trip, I was able to hit some iconic spots. You’ve got the House of Wonders (Beit al-Ajaib), and, well, what’s the story?, just a grand palace that’s rather showcasing the architectural aspirations of the sultans. I stopped by the Old Fort, and like, yeah, just a sturdy structure that has that feeling of power, as I was saying that provides a cool look at Stone Town’s long and very important defensive history. And the tour takes you, or did me anyway, by the Anglican Cathedral, which is a really powerful site, that, you know, stands where the old slave market stood, its almost a stark reminder of a darker chapter. The guide filled you in, or filled me in anyway, on some information that made you think a bit and helped you, or helped me anyway, just sort of appreciate Zanzibar’s winding history. Is that right?

Getting Around Stone Town

I’ll give you this; so, getting around Stone Town really could be a mini adventure all by itself! The narrow streets really can seem like this, or that they’re nearly a maze, as I was saying so it’s rather easy to get turned around a bit! Now, this is where having this knowledgeable local guide comes in very handy. You may want to be with one as they always seem to know every twist and turn; what’s more, that’s almost how you can see these hidden gems that you probably, possibly just wouldn’t find on your own, actually.
