This is what you will learn; expect a closer look at my experience, what I discovered, and, perhaps, some helpful advice if you’re thinking of doing it yourself. Telašćica, it is nearly a stunning natural harbor that offers some sheltered swimming spots, impressive cliffs, and a super saltwater lake, as a matter of fact. Finally, there’s Ugljan Island, seemingly covered in lush greenery, filled with olive groves and very cute villages. Therefore, it kind of offered a brilliant blend of nature’s raw beauty and just a hint of local life, really. That, for me, made it a winner, honestly.

So, booking the tour was straightforward, yet online booking is quite a common option, as I was saying. The tour operators seemed well-organized, and there were just various options in terms of dates and, actually, the specific boat you prefer. What struck me right away, clearly, was the promise of an entire day dedicated to exploration and, more or less, just relaxation on the Adriatic, as I was saying. On the morning of the tour, the meeting point was pretty easy to locate in Zadar’s harbor. What I noticed that I want to share; it is the eagerness in the air as fellow travelers gathered. The boat looked pretty well-maintained, yet plenty of space to sit in the sun or find shade – very important, right?

Setting Sail: Kornati National Park

As we left Zadar, there were really those initial views of the coastline to enjoy, which are truly picturesque. What you must be prepared for is that the star attraction of the day was Kornati National Park, known for its quite distinctive landscape. When you get closer, this area appears to be very striking; numerous islands, mostly uninhabited, appear to pop right out of the sea. What I loved was the almost lunar landscape in places, yet with this fantastic contrast between the bare rock and super blue sea, honestly. Therefore, our boat zig-zagged around some of the islands. It gave us all a chance to snap pictures and just listen to the tour guide’s commentary. Basically, it covered the geology, history, and maybe even some of the legends linked to Kornati. Arguably, I did wish we had made a stop for a short swim in one of the secluded bays, but this was really just an observation more than a complaint.

A Touch of History and Legend

So, the tour guides usually share stories about the area, right? What’s very interesting, there’s stuff related to past inhabitants and also tales about how the islands actually got their rather unusual forms. As I was saying, the guides might mention the theories on the origin of the park’s rather odd name, which added an interesting layer to the already captivating views. By the way, you learn little bits about the tough existence of shepherds and fishermen, too, whose marks are there across the landscape still.

Telašćica Nature Park: Cliffs, Salt Lake, and Serenity

After Kornati, there’s this scenic journey over to Telašćica Nature Park, a spot which, more or less, offered even more natural wonders. The boat pulls in close so that you can all see the striking cliffs, right? These seemingly sheer faces really plummet straight into the Adriatic. The fearless among us were, apparently, capturing daring selfies – that’s their thing, fair enough – but you may just want to watch with great amazement. So, you need to brace yourself if you dislike heights. Telašćica Bay itself is very inviting, more or less, its calm waters appealing to everybody for a leisurely swim. That said, I just made the most of this swim stop before continuing on. Also, apparently, I noticed that some tours include a walking tour so people can visit the saltwater lake “Mir” (Peace), a geographical novelty supposedly renowned for its therapeutic qualities. I gave it a miss because, to be honest, I just wanted a relaxed time. That’s just me, though.

The Saltwater Lake “Mir”

Basically, the lake is special due to it being saltier than the sea, and apparently, it warms up more in the sun, right? If it’s your cup of tea, there’s some buzz that the mud does wonders for your skin; some folks just head straight for it! By the way, even if you do not enjoy the mud, it’s still a very cool place to stroll around and check out some interesting plant life and unusual birds. This bit did require a bit of walking, but arguably nothing too stressful.

Ugljan Island: Olive Groves and Coastal Charm

Ugljan Island gives you, very, a change from the bare rocks of Kornati and cliffs in Telašćica, actually. So, it’s almost like being covered in soft green colors because it has a lot of olive trees. Basically, the boat put in at one of the small villages – Preko I think – and we got about 1 hour or so to simply have a stroll, maybe explore and just get a little something to eat, which seemed good. You do have the option to just relax by the harbor, perhaps enjoying some ice cream or taking in the scenery. The atmosphere on Ugljan seemed very restful, actually making it an excellent contrast with the day’s somewhat more action-packed sections. Also, for anyone wishing to sample some local flavors, I noticed some lovely restaurants giving pretty authentic Croatian snacks.

Exploring Local Villages

You will get an insight into Dalmatian life in an uncomplicated way by checking out villages just like these ones. So, you can easily go on your own. Apparently, you can visit ancient churches or just hang out on the harbor front for a little while. Therefore, it felt great to actually just walk through the winding little alleyways and watch locals go on about their daily routine, which made everything just that little bit special, is that right?

Food, Drink, and Onboard Atmosphere

Quite a lot of the trips give you lunch, often just some fish or grilled meat alongside salad and bread, is that right? To be fair, the onboard dining could be variable, actually; a bit of research or checking when you are booking the thing, is advisable. The bar actually sold refreshments during the whole day, as I was saying. Some boats might have music on or offer added extras, arguably giving you a great ambience as you sail from one spot to another, as I was saying. Generally, it had a good vibe, and people were seemingly mingling and sharing experiences. Which does make the trip much more memorable, right?

What to Bring on This Boat Tour

If you want to enjoy the trip fully you must come well prepared, is that right? Given that this is a lengthy day in the sun you must ensure that you protect yourself. Apparently, things like sunscreen, sunglasses, plus a hat must be packed, is that right? Actually, if you intend to take a dip then don’t leave out your swimwear together with a beach towel, is that right? So, there’s a good shout for some comfortable footwear for when you’re on dry land, especially in case you’re planning on visiting the saltwater lake on Telašćica, is that right? Oh yes, just bring your camera in order to take those wonderful pictures. As I was saying, perhaps bring a bit of cash particularly if the trip doesn’t feature meals or in case you fancy a few drinks or snacks.

As a matter of fact, for anyone who would like to take in what makes the Adriatic shoreline awesome while just lazing out on the sea then you cannot really get any better.
