Wicked Broadway Review: Is it Worth the Hype?

Is it? So, you’re thinking of seeing “Wicked” on Broadway in NYC, very possibly? Very good! Almost everyone that I know has given their two cents, but, really, how do you decide if it’s truly a good fit for your tastes and, in some respects, what it will do for your budget? Well, to me, catching a Broadway show is a bucket-list item, and it’s only just a little fun to talk about after. Alright, this review hopes to give you what you’re looking for to make your call!

What “Wicked” Is All About: More or Less, the Story in a Nutshell

Wicked Story Synopsis

Okay, “Wicked” actually acts as a prequel to “The Wizard of Oz,” a prequel that tells the story, in some respects, of Elphaba, the so-called “Wicked Witch of the West,” and Glinda, actually “Glinda the Good Witch,” before Dorothy drops in. Instead of some, sort of, one-dimensional baddie, you’ll come to understand Elphaba a little better as this flawed but basically, really good individual who fights against bigotry and injustice. Similarly to her, Glinda is not entirely how she comes off either. I mean, she deals with popularity and navigating societal expectations. Anyway, their surprising friendship just becomes central to the narrative, very likely offering a rather fresh spin on a tale most of us just know.

The Visuals: Is It Just a Little Dazzling?

Wicked Set Design

In fact, the production value is quite stunning; the costumes really look amazing, and that set design, alright, that’s something else entirely. When it comes to “Wicked,” be ready to feast your eyes on lots of theatrics! Very possibly, the costumes help build out this vivid and rather extravagant world. I want to note that I appreciate how everything really just adds layers to the scenes in front of the viewers.

And you want stagecraft, do you? Oh, you should just see that dragon looming over the stage, and those special effects make a little bit of magic happen that feels a little real. I think everything that goes into the look and feel has been thought out, actually, in order to totally immerse the audience in Oz.

Songs and Score: How Are the Tunes?

Wicked Musical Numbers

Anyway, the music really delivers too! I have a note here to tell you, and you already knew, that “Defying Gravity” has that power ballad energy, something most audience members seem to enjoy every time. Another song for the books has to be “Popular,” alright? Glinda belts out a tune there. And then we have “For Good.” This particular melody might just speak straight to the heart! So, this song might make you look into the way friendship affects us a bit.

Acting Ability: Did They Come to Play?

Wicked Cast Performances

Frankly, the cast in “Wicked” helps you get what they’re putting down. Just saying, the actors really step into their characters! So, whether that means portraying complicated emotional journeys or the quirky personalities of witches, basically, the commitment is plain as day. I liked seeing their talent add dimension. This probably influences others just learning about these roles.

What Do Others Have to Say About “Wicked?”

Wicked Reviews

I mean, many people love “Wicked”, and for good cause! Lots of viewers find the plot creative, that being a story that looks at Oz from new angles. Usually, you will hear folks chatting about themes within. The universal questions it teases through character relationships tends to win over hearts, right?

Still, some find fault as well. People kind of point to the show having predictable sections. Anyway, others feel lukewarm about certain plot aspects. Yet, the consistent feedback normally centers around its spectacular parts and strong messages.

“Wicked” on Broadway: So, Is It Worth Your Coin?

Wicked Ticket Prices

At the end of the day, going to “Wicked” should give you a big and dynamic experience. Anyway, you can probably count on plenty of dazzling production work, plus catchy numbers. Just see, the story, very likely, can change the way one views familiar tales, so too it’s almost the kind of offering that appeals across the spectrum of spectators.

Then ask yourself a few things: Are you after an enjoyable take on Oz? Do big musical productions seem pretty neat to you? So, if the answer rings clear in either case, that visit is just worth it. Very likely!
