Wadi Rum All-Day Jeep Tour Review: Overnight & Meals Included
So, you think you’re up for an adventure? That’s wonderful! I’m very thrilled to walk you, in a way, through my recent escapade: an all-day jeep excursion in Wadi Rum, coupled with an overnight stay and, of course, full meals. This trip was more or less what I’d call something that stays with you, honestly – not just another checkmark on your travel list. Wadi Rum, sometimes called “The Valley of the Moon,” is that kind of terrain that does something to you; it throws you into an seemingly surreal environment that seems so different from daily living. Now, picture yourself traversing through sand dunes as big as buildings, the sun absolutely blazing in the sky, and the night sky filled with so many stars that, honestly, you might just reconsider your day to day worries. Sounds pretty magical, right?
Setting Off into the Desert
As a matter of fact, the excursion started in the morning, and basically, from the minute I stepped into that sturdy jeep, I knew I was in for a pretty thrilling time. Our guide, a local Bedouin man with so much knowledge about the area that it seemed totally astounding, greeted us. First thing he did was take us away into the heart of Wadi Rum. The scenery that unfolded was like something that seemed ripped straight out of a movie – huge rock formations, deep canyons, and those orange-red sand dunes that just go on and on. We actually stopped at several famous spots, very, very cool places etched into the landscape.
There was Lawrence’s Spring, where, similarly to many, you take a sip and maybe get in touch with history a little bit, imagining Lawrence of Arabia himself stopping at that little water source. After that, there was Khazali Canyon, with some ancient inscriptions etched onto the walls – something to think about the hands that left them there, very likely. Then there’s the Little Bridge, so picture perfect to take photos while we were climbing it and kind of soaking in the big views. Each site we came across had its own unique vibe and really something special to admire. Our guide told local stories and explained the area so very, very well; honestly, it just brought everything to life, you know?
An Afternoon Amongst the Dunes
During the afternoon, things got even more exhilarating! Our jeep was headed for the dunes; big, like crazy-big dunes that really seemed to go straight up into the sky, basically. I think this was something I was absolutely waiting for. I mean, you’re not in Wadi Rum for a boardroom meeting; we were there to sandboard! I didn’t exactly break any records but still, it was really, really fun. There’s basically this kind of rush sliding down and tumbling into that smooth sand— such good times. As soon as we finished that, we really relaxed while the guide drove us to a spot where we were just able to relax, drink Bedouin tea, and admire the landscapes when the sun started going down. Watching how the sky changed to colors, as the day ended, very lovely; it was very magical and extremely calming, you know?
We had time in the afternoon basically to take some pictures. When you mix some cool landscapes and soft light, is that you are basically given images you cannot mess up – the photographer cannot mess up if the landscape gives so much! When you put so much trust, when you show people enjoying the beauty, very real memories stay, anyway.
A Bedouin Dinner and Starlit Night
As evening drew near, we reached the Bedouin camp. That was great since they received us with such kindness. And there, they really started what was something special; a proper Bedouin feast! They prepared this feast underground and basically slow cooked it, the meats, chicken, and vegetables with local herbs – honestly, it was amazing, one of the best dishes I could try in the land! People sitting all together, like friends eating family style, basically sharing tales and joking under lantern light was the kind of thing which created such special nights.
As we finished with meals, it got time to sit back and enjoy. After that darkness came the stars popped out with crazy intensity because in that dark night that place could give some insane bright stars, a sight hard to imagine if not present there; I found myself looking, admiring these dots on the horizon during what seemed like forever. Sometimes the camp would blast local folk songs and there would be stories that people narrated on what seemed so mysterious under those blankets of the night. Anyway this, put simply, was pure magic for soul.
Reflections on the Wadi Rum Experience
Now that some weeks passed on, my hours spent into Wadi Rum linger on still. It’s this strange landscape and calm and rich tradition that is why it made so many long lasting impressions on people who visited or are planning now one. Starting at crazy fun riding jeeps and soft-sandy landscapes ending into amazing dinners with friends from the soil, its more like a deep look into earth core while its being covered in sand.
