Turin 2-Hour City Highlights Walking Tour: An Honest Review

Turin, a place that used to be Italy’s first capital, has this understated elegance, a certain charm, if you will, that quietly draws you. Now, you know, it is almost a place where grand palaces rub shoulders with really cool cafes, and, that, actually ancient history is mixed right in with present day happenings. We decided to try one of those 2-hour city highlights walking tours you find all over, so, too it’s almost like we could get a sense for what this amazing place has to offer, and, very, very quickly, see all there is to see.

First Impressions: Meeting Point & Guide

Turin Walking Tour Meeting

So, first off, finding the meeting point can be a bit of an event, you know? It wasn’t super obvious at first, very, very much even though the instructions they gave us seemed crystal clear on paper, in a way. Still, after circling the block like twice, we managed to spot our guide holding a little sign. She introduced herself—I think it was Elena—and she was just so friendly and instantly put everyone at ease, you know? She had, like, this obvious love for Turin, very, very much like this kind of enthusiasm, you feel? It definitely felt, anyway, that it was getting everyone excited about the next two hours. Arguably, you could tell that even the folks who were dragging their feet a bit started to perk up and looked interested.

Piazza San Carlo: Turin’s Elegant Living Room

Piazza San Carlo Turin

We kicked things off in Piazza San Carlo, and oh my goodness, it’s stunning, right? Our guide, she pointed out that the buildings had these matched facades – these identical fronts – and this, seemingly, gave this feeling of total harmony, in a way. She even called it Turin’s living room, that, arguably, you could feel it right away. Like, she talked about the history and told some interesting tales. Did you know that Piazza San Carlo has seen revolutions and celebrations, seemingly, through the years? You just can’t help, anyway, but imagine folks throughout history standing right there where you’re standing; she tells great stories too.

Via Roma: A Stroll Through Style

Via Roma Turin

Next up, it seems that we wandered down Via Roma, which, if you ask me, seemed like the place to be if you enjoy getting your window shopping on, really, extremely so. Our guide kind of chatted with us as we strolled past store after store, you know? She pointed out how a lot of the structures had their architecture influenced by that 1930s thing, so, Arguably, you could see all these rationalist style structures still standing, very, very much so despite time marching on, you feel? I tend to be one for old history so architecture from that period isn’t typically my thing, Arguably, that’s because the old things capture my imagination. We were only kind of walking, so, anyway, we went fast enough to make sure that we kept up with the crew as they browsed but not slow enough for it to bother me, so, you know, that’s a relief!

Piazza Castello: The Heart of Turin

Piazza Castello Turin

The Piazza Castello definitely became my favorite place, since I’m kind of into old things. Like, there are big name attractions surrounding you, for instance, Palazzo Madama, Teatro Regio, that, too, you almost felt like you were inside some historical fiction book from way back when, very, very much so as we walked past the spot. It has such presence, that theater, arguably, maybe since it has this totally opulent outside to it, you know? Then, seemingly, across from there, Palazzo Madama shows off such beautiful contrast because one side looks like a medieval castle while the other almost looks like it should be there in modern times, still, basically because it looks Baroque. Like, she stopped here and talked us through each of the buildings that surround Piazza Castello, very, very thoroughly and with all kinds of interesting trivia, like stories of royal dramas, that actually were neat!

Mole Antonelliana: Reaching for the Sky

Mole Antonelliana Turin

Last on our tour but probably the best part that captured the most attention, anyway, we were told was Mole Antonelliana, Arguably, maybe one of the more famous buildings. Now, Arguably, there’s one thing that this tour leaves you wanting, very, very much and it’s being able to have more time here! Our guide explained, arguably, as a fun fact even, that it was once meant to become a synagogue but today is the home of the National Cinema Museum. After she pointed it out to us, Arguably, the guide also mentioned how there’s a panoramic elevator inside, which goes up to the tippy top for great city sight-seeing! So many of us, too, it’s almost like we talked among ourselves about making plans to come back later that day, Arguably, just so we could take a look around inside, Arguably, maybe after grabbing something to eat, anyway.

What I Loved About the Tour

Like, there were a bunch of great things about the tour, that, arguably, the top thing, basically, would have to be our guide. She seemingly breathed such fresh energy into this whole city that, that you’d have otherwise just strolled on by. That information on its own was invaluable, right? The stories she told also felt special, just because Turin seems filled to the brim with this interesting culture, in that case. Plus, this walking tour was perfectly set because it had the right amount of time—like just enough to keep my interest but not enough to give me those tired feet. If that sounds good to you, definitely put it on your to-do list, really, extremely so since the next time I’m back in town I’ll think I’ll take this thing all over again.

Things to Consider

Just to keep in mind before you jump into things, here are some pointers: The path is not paved, Arguably, which could be an issue. If walking or stairs becomes too much, well, definitely prepare. Also, make certain to factor in the time of the year that you’re going, as the season will drastically impact whether the sun’s beating down or if, if things might be somewhat slick due to rainfall, especially if you’re taking it in autumn or spring. Also, too it’s almost, well, there are bathrooms along the route but they tend to come with these euros, in that case, so make sure you keep change on you! Last, arguably, since these tours go whether rain or sun’s there, right, bring stuff that has got your back for just such an event.

Is the Turin 2-Hour City Highlights Walking Tour Worth It?

Now, if you were asking if I thought this tour felt worth my time and, that, well, I think you have gotten this far in the review so you kind of know already. However, I feel the need to say “absolutely,” seriously, in that case. The guide knew just how to keep it interesting. And the spots we saw – the squares and building – wow, they did it for me. It makes that historical city much simpler to experience, seriously, and Arguably, at this price, you will think the exact same, which means it won’t hurt you so much.
