Tulum Hands-On Mexican Cooking Class: A Detailed Review

Tulum Mexican Cooking Class

Tulum, with its unbelievable views and history, is often known just for its Mayan ruins and beaches. But, Tulum, surprisingly, has some amazing cooking classes too! I, like your average tourist, wasn’t quite expecting it, but the “Tulum Hands-on Mexican Cooking Class” did catch my eye, so I thought I’d try it out. You see, I’m no chef, like your high-end culinary artist, but I sure do love some fantastic Mexican food, so it might be an interesting experience. Here’s, kind of, a walk through of what you might anticipate should you decide to sign up too!

First Impressions and Booking

Tulum Booking Cooking Class

Booking the class, truthfully, was very simple. So, there were several options floating out there, that is clear, from the class that is very popular to little local deals. Anyway, I actually chose “Tulum Hands-on Mexican Cooking Class” on their webpage because it seemed very straight forward, you know? It was very easy, and there, too, was a little bit of comfort to come from booking straight from their actual site. It looks like they really make it super clear as to what you actually get – all the details, timings and exactly what ingredients are used. What I can say is that it does give some trust right at the start.

The Market Visit: A Feast for the Senses

Mexican Market

The class started with what you can consider a tour of the local market and that was such an eye opener! First off, meeting the chef/instructor; such a warm personality so immediately very welcoming. I have to tell you, just strolling around, the market has so much going on, right? So many colours that are super exciting and aromas – like spices, fresh produce – almost intoxicating! Our instructor knew everyone and he gave us quite some useful information of the variety of chillies that you see right through to some, well, weird local fruit! You definitely do feel as though you are actually learning here rather than merely buying and cooking!

Getting Hands-On: Cooking Up a Storm

Hands on Cooking

So, the actual cooking part takes place in a set kitchen and the set up is simple and perfect so you can, too, be as hands-on as you wish! I find the instruction super detailed, simple to take in and very, very helpful too if you’re basically only capable of a basic spaghetti bolognaise! (Like your average single guy cooking skills!) Also, he let us, kind of, experiment with different spices which was interesting and so educational when, finally, tasting! It definitely opened the experience so, that there was understanding too!

The Menu: A Taste of Authentic Mexico

Mexican Menu

The best bit? I get to enjoy, nearly, a total authentic Mexican bonanza – all cooked by moi, right! It all ranges from tacos, salsas, right to that very fantastic guacamole and also a very gorgeous local soup which, I should say, the actual name totally evades me now! All produce, really, was so unbelievably fresh. It was that good, so naturally, the flavors tasted spectacular. Everything tasted so amazing and this, maybe, was due to the use of traditional techniques! All pretty remarkable.

The Overall Experience

Culinary experience

All in all I can recommend this experience if you enjoy your food and if you wanna learn and you also wish to just maybe get a bit cultured too, that’s cool. Even though my cooking is still, maybe, very questionable; now I know how a chili works from a Chipotle through to that, slightly strange, habanero, right! It all was very, very good.
