Alright, before signing up, the phrase “semi-private” had me picturing something better than a crowded bus tour but, well, still sharing the experience. As a matter of fact, the reality turned out even nicer. Very small groups, usually six to ten people. Arguably, stopping for photos is something you’ll probably do constantly. Later, the trek itself starts gently, you might want to get your legs warmed up. In that case, the trail winds you through meadows, past farmhouses, and then gradually gets steeper as you get closer to Theth itself. Anyway, once you see the village appear, snuggled amongst the peaks, you will instantly get the picture! It is that remote and it’s that charming.
Day 2: That Big Hike to the Blue Eye – Was it Worth it?
Right, this is what you’ve come for, literally! That said, this part of the trip is very long, a good chunk of a day. First, the terrain could be rocky in places, there’s just a little bit of up and down, so wearing good boots is super important, in fact. I want you to picture walking beside a river, and gradually hearing the rush of the waterfall that feeds the Blue Eye. So, finally seeing it, honestly, is something very special. Basically, it looks just like those photos – that bright turquoise water bubbling up from deep down. Pretty much, lots of people are there taking photos or being very brave, even going for a swim, because the water can be icy. If you like your adventures unforgettable, Theth’s Blue Eye should be high up your list, definitely!

Usually going between June and September offers that best balance of sunshine and fewer rain showers. Actually, good hiking boots could be non-negotiable as parts could get rocky. Okay, packing layers also offers you warmth in the evenings but, then you can peel them off as you sweat your way uphill, arguably making you feel nice. Another thing, don’t forget the insect repellent, definitely when you’re close to water.
