Tbilisi City Tour Review: Historic Modern & Cable Car Rides
Okay, so, you’re thinking about seeing Tbilisi, right? Basically, that Georgian spot with all the history and modern stuff kinda mashed together? We recently did the “Tbilisi Historic Modern City Tour with 2 Cable Car Rides,” and basically, this is us telling you what it’s, like, *really* like. No, we didn’t hold anything back for this honest and candid Tbilisi city tour review.
First Impressions of the Tbilisi City Tour
First off, anyway, Tbilisi hits you kinda hard when you roll up, I mean with how old and new are all mixed. That tour? Apparently, it wants to give you a quick look at both sides, just a little. We met up with our guide and his name was Giorgi and you could totally tell he loves the city. It’s almost like he couldn’t wait to just show us around and, you know, spill all the neat facts and stuff. It’s pretty nice. This is already giving us all good signs, anyway. He just had that *vibe*, I mean if you know what I mean.
Exploring Old Tbilisi: History Comes Alive
Old Tbilisi, or, you know, that super postcard place? Yeah, so that’s where we went first. Picture, you know, streets like a confusing mess, houses that are kinda falling apart but so very charming too it’s almost too much, and balconies made of carved wood that would’ve collapsed during an earthquake. Okay, I was being a bit dramatic. It wasn’t *that* unstable. It’s pretty cool, actually. That sulfur bath place, the one with the domes? It’s definitely a thing you have to check out too it’s almost crazy. Giorgi, he actually told us all kinds of stories about that place – you know, the kings and the bath attendants and the history and the legends. It just wasn’t a bunch of dates and, I guess, blah, blah, blah boring information. This made it so you felt like you stepped back in time, just a bit. That he didn’t bore us with a list of information makes it clear how Tbilisi has a long history and how Old Town still captures that, like when those bathhouses became an attraction.
The Modern Side of Tbilisi: Bridge of Peace and Beyond
Alright, but Tbilisi ain’t just the old town, right? Next up: modern Tbilisi! That Bridge of Peace, it’s so different to those old buildings – sleek, and almost shimmering at night, just like you saw in the movies. Giorgi walked us along, just pointing out these modern things – buildings and public art installations – he kinda explained how Georgia is looking at, you know, to be future. We discussed that shift when he pointed to the glass dome rising, like, near those historic buildings. It’s just like seeing two different things mixing – which I suppose symbolizes Georgia’s direction: moving forward and, you know, changing, anyway, but still respecting those historic events. It gave you kinda, like, a lot to think about.
Cable Car Adventures: Views from Above
Cable car time! Actually, you get two cable car rides in this tour, that’s what happened, so it just feels like you are basically winning. The first one, okay, it takes you up to the Narikala Fortress, is that crazy? Views are absolutely good too it’s almost breathtaking when you’re going up, you get to kinda look over everything. Those houses, very old, tiled roofs and, just very interesting looking towers – you can kinda take photos to brag about when you get home, if that’s your vibe. Then, on top of the fortress, you see that Mother Georgia statue. Gigantic and super shiny, that is some good art! Second cable car basically takes you to Mtatsminda Park, that is, like, a super chill spot way up high. This offers some pretty spectacular panoramic city views. In some respects, it just give you the ability to capture those awesome memories to store somewhere.
Food Stop: A Taste of Georgia
Okay, it ain’t a trip to Georgia without, like, eating a ton, you’re with me, right? The tour stops for a proper traditional meal. Khachapuri, right, which is a cheese bread thing, that is worth going back for. Khinkali, those are dumplings, kinda juicy, that taste good. Loads of those cool appetizers that came on small plates to taste – basically a small feast. I have this love language involving snacks, and the food of Georgia does that good. I can guarantee. Actually, you could ask Giorgi anything about Georgia and I promise, you will get good answers.
What We Really Liked
- Giorgi: He just knew loads of info about the country’s past, present and direction, and he brought Tbilisi, almost, fully alive, is that enough?
- Two Cable Cars: Is that amazing, getting those cool, elevated city views twice in a tour?
- Tasting Local food: Being able to eat tasty stuff from Georgia as part of a cultural look around made you understand what Tbilisi means to people.
- Historic sites plus modern developments: Actually you get a lot from seeing the really aged spots right near things like the Bridge of Peace.
Things That Could Be Better
- Tour Length: Anyway the tour is long but, you might be dragging, especially if, very very hot or super freezing.
- Crowd Size: It seems our crew had quite a few members; I feel, it seems the personal feel would crank way up when this has a little less in terms of attendance.
Is This Tour Worth It?
Just listen, so you want something to give you the Georgian history or the up-to-date direction Tbilisi follows? It could be good. Especially that those tour guides share things very informally and naturally when telling things, they sound pretty amazing. Furthermore you get so many views around a very intriguing city through many angles. Though perhaps you tire a little or are trapped being very closely surrounded during your city explorations, overall it might work great!
