That said, from the moment you walk into Tango Porteño, you’re greeted by a design that hopes to evoke the golden age of tango. The building is pretty much an old movie theater, which really adds something to the experience. It is kind of grand and over-the-top, and just a bit reminiscent of old Buenos Aires. Is that what they were going for? Apparently, the intent behind the scenery and all that is very strong, too. Think plush velvet seating, glimmering chandeliers, and just details everywhere trying to scream old-world glamour.
Yet, in a way, the space is built specifically for tango performances, that’s kind of for sure. You are able to see the stage from pretty much any seat in the house, yet. The sound system is definitely properly set up, too. You are able to hear all of the music and any of the performers without issue, as well. What about taking pictures? It’s usually alright for visitors to capture the ambience as they arrive. They will get photos before the show kicks off too, but when the show actually starts they shut that right down, usually.
