Sweet Escape: Your Portland Ice Cream Tour Review
Alright, have you ever thought of visiting a spot almost drowning in artisanal ice cream? Because, let me tell you, Portland, Oregon, is just that spot. It’s like the city breathes sugar and cream, and so an ice cream tour is very much a rite of passage. I actually recently went on one, and well, I’m here to give you the lowdown. Very prepare yourself for a creamy adventure.
Why an Ice Cream Tour of Portland?
Why, might you wonder, should one dedicate valuable vacation time to frozen desserts? You see, Portland is a town with very creative, unique food scene. It’s just brimming with places that take their ice cream super seriously. I mean, it’s almost an art form there. Places put out unusual flavor combos you won’t find elsewhere. So, this isn’t just about scarfing down something sweet; it’s about experiencing local craftsmanship and, perhaps, going just a little outside your comfort zone, you know?
Finding the Right Tour
A thing you will wanna do, is figure out what kinda ice cream escapade you want. A few outfits actually arrange tours, that vary pretty wildly. So, some tours hit up many local shops, others do it by area of the city. Very budget also counts, too it’s almost true, I tell you. I would suggest checking out sites like TripAdvisor or Yelp to find the tours and prices. That’s usually pretty good. Anyway, I went with a walking tour that boasted some smaller, family-owned businesses. Very something to consider, alright?
Our First Stop: Salt & Straw
Okay, so first thing that comes to mind, Salt & Straw is pretty famous, alright? I mean, it seems every Portland ice cream conversation comes back to this place. The flavors? A bit wild! They got stuff that’s seasonal, super experimental things. I actually tried the Honey Lavender. Which, you know, is surprisingly delightful. It sounds bougie, alright, but the taste, is that really it makes it worthwhile, so true. Very expect a line, that’s usually out the door and down the block, anyway. But it does actually move fast, and let’s be real, and people-watching is always fun.
Cool Moon Ice Cream: Asian-Inspired Delights
Alright now for Cool Moon, which takes us a bit east of the other, this shop almost puts its own twist on things, drawing ideas from Asian tastes. Very flavors, like black sesame and red bean, that almost are on hand. I’m usually someone that defaults to something boring like chocolate. I took a risk, very I’m glad I did it. The black sesame wasn’t something really sweet, kinda had a nut-like hint. This store could be just the right thing if you are looking for that thing very unique, alright?
Wandering through different streets
Ok, but what you are not gonna hear me tell you about is how much time we spent strolling from shop to shop, actually. This is an awesome bonus part of the tour. You get to see the spots between ice cream stops, alright? Portland got really strange street art. Lots of interesting storefronts. That said, walking makes a good chance to stretch those legs. Very feel better on your tummy after you get through those tastes.
Tips for Making the Most of Your Tour
Ok, so you want a plan for your tour? Here are some of the very best tips that I got:
- Don’t be afraid to be creative: Try out different flavors of the week, stuff, very you can’t get anyplace else.
- Think of bringing a water bottle along with you: Ice cream can be yummy. But it may also almost make one very thirsty too.
- Be ready to walk: You’ll probably stroll quite a lot amongst shops. Very be certain you wear comfortable footwear!
- Try sharing a thing: Thinking about it, do not need a full serving at each spot. That’s why sampling your stuff, with the peeps in your gang, may not be the worst choice at the spot.
- Check out those hours: Certain places do have quirky hours. Be sure those joints do have open hours during your tour.
Is an Ice Cream Tour Worth It?
Ok so, is doing this actually a thing for you? Well, if your thing happens to be a fondness for nice dessert and unusual taste fusions? Is that so? Then I say absolutely! You got an easy way of getting to know just that city has to offer, while satisfying that nice urge too. In some respects, if there are smaller ones among the crew, this event can be amazing and nice, but only if you, in general, want to keep peeps that are close to you occupied as that day turns to dusk. As I was saying, give in to the impulse for tasty treats and actually begin plotting that tour.
