St Lucia Volcano, Waterfall & Garden Trip: A Review

So, you’re thinking about doing the “St Lucia Drive-In Volcano, Waterfall, and Garden Day Trip?” That sounds like a thing someone would be pretty thrilled about. I, for one, gave it a try, and I want to give you the lowdown. Is it totally awesome, a bit so-so, or actually worth every penny? That’s what I hope I can get to. What’s appealing, yet, are the things to keep at the front of your mind before you book. Let’s see if this exploration of sulfuric springs, cool waterfalls and exotic plants is good.

Getting Started: Setting Expectations

First, I would want to put something out there. The day trip is a big chunk of the St Lucian highlights crammed into about eight hours, maybe. This isn’t about getting super detailed. It’s about a speedy run. In some respects, what that means is you’re spending a good while in a vehicle traveling from place to place. The roads can be twisting, which is great for seeing cool things, yet if you are even a tiny bit susceptible to motion sickness, popping a pill beforehand is, like, pretty important, maybe.

We started our trip bright and sort of early, being collected right from our hotel, as a matter of fact. That was cool, and convenient, I guess. What came as a shock, actually, was the tour bus; what was expected and what was delivered are, arguably, pretty different, more or less. It looked pretty worn, a bit. Not the end of all existence, but a cleaner bus would have made it much better. So, my expectation wasn’t exactly correct, and it kind of mattered.

The Drive-In Volcano: Sulphur Springs Park

Now, the volcano! “Drive-in volcano” sounds wild, is that true? You actually drive close to it. It’s basically what’s left of a collapsed volcano, more or less. And it steams. Oh boy, does it ever stink! Think of rotten eggs mixed with warm mud, so you kind of have it right. The smell is powerful, literally, but you know what, it just becomes another smell after some minutes.

The mud baths are the real deal here, actually. They say the mud has a thing about making your skin smooth. They also say it does amazing wonders for your health. I do not know that this is true or correct, so take that information for what you want. You slather yourself with it, wait so you dry some, and then wash off. I do that thing that everyone seems to enjoy and then takes silly pictures covered with mud. One note though, your lighter bathing suits might get stained. Maybe plan on packing that older bathing suit, okay? The place was crowded, too. Waiting in line to slather on mud kind of lessened the thrill for a tiny moment, yet the novelty makes up for that little issue, or I wouldn’t complain.

Toraille Waterfall: A Refreshing Stop

Next up, that was pretty interesting, we went toward Toraille Waterfall. After the hot mud, that really, really felt very needed! The waterfall cascades, they tell me, about 50 feet, pretty much into a small pool. That cold water, I am just saying, is just very wonderful, is that so? A little tip – the rocks can get fairly slippery. Water shoes could be smart in this respect.

The location is so wonderfully tropical, maybe with trees, maybe with soft rain forest vegetation kind of close by. I took some pictures which seem so lovely! Some people just swam under the falls, as a matter of fact, yet that rush of the water kind of feels strong! We waded in the cold and shallow areas. It actually felt nice!

The Botanical Gardens: Diamond Falls

The Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens were probably our most anticipated part of the adventure. They definitely delivered. The grounds feature a neat mix of tropical plants. Plus, it seems very pleasing and calm there, generally. It has so many cool shades of plants everywhere you can turn, and small cute colorful birds flit around. The Diamond Waterfall happens to be more mineral spring than what one considers a true waterfall. What with all the minerals in the water the rocks show shades, seemingly from yellows to the purplish tones. The colors are beautiful for sure! The gardens can make you just feel relaxed.

What I did notice about our pace there, as a matter of fact, is that our guided tour time seems hurried a little bit. Spending a longer time there, that just sounds cool! Perhaps walking casually to absorb all of it slowly? Still, just that glimpse, more or less, impressed us and filled the photographs.

Lunch: Local Flavors

I kind of want to chat a bit about the included lunch. We stopped at, actually, a local Creole restaurant, that was cool. They had some of their well-known regional eats, they say, like rice, beans, plus stewed chicken, that sort of dish, probably. The lunch wasn’t 5 star for sure, but I will tell you that it definitely provided a real taste in what real St. Lucian meals actually taste similar to. What may happen when you consider that you should bring that cash for any kind of extra beverages is you might want something other than water.

That sort of lunch break gives you a chance to have a quiet space to sit down and then sort of talk with fellow tourists and some other bus mates. That camaraderie just improves the enjoyment that we get out of our days!

Soufriere Town: Quick Visit

Soufriere is kind of quaint. Yet it does present a glimpse into the local everyday St Lucian routine and that sort of charm, really. Our stop probably lasted around, or less than, 30 minutes. We snapped several photos and just kind of roamed nearby shops close to the harbor area. That seemed nice!

The Guide and the Group

What may be one of the largest single things which makes a tour like it actually become great is the tour leader, literally. Ours may have been full of information; what he mentioned was, well, his knowledge around St. Lucia’s natural wonders plus its history did bring value into our excursion overall. I do know, however, the large bunch on the bus (ours being a whole packed one!) did reduce that sensation involving personal communication a bit.

Perhaps a tiny number, maybe that would assist in making dialog just somewhat friendlier or something?

Value for Money: Is It Worth It?

So, that really is just an age-old thing: what exactly am I actually getting here for what am I paying? Generally, which involves having just many famous attractions just quickly on any given thing makes this actually good in value, at the very least actually. If someone just tries for immersive things alone so plan out spending more amount, more period at any given one, it will possibly assist in making any choice in line in which you actually view as better.
