Singapore Marina Bay Segway Tour Review: Is it Worth it?

Visiting Singapore and looking for a way, you know, kind of fun to explore Marina Bay? Well, the 3-Hour Marina Bay Mini Segway Tour sounds almost like a quite convenient option, you know? I went on this tour not that long ago, and I’m here now to give you a real, honest lowdown, which should help you figure out if it is actually worth your hard-earned money and precious time, you see.

What’s the Marina Bay Segway Tour Really About?

Singapore Marina Bay

So, basically, the Marina Bay Segway Tour is very much a guided sightseeing adventure on a Segway, obviously, that shows off the very well-known sights around Marina Bay in Singapore, you see. Typically, these tours often run for about three hours, which is more or less, kind of perfect for taking in the environment without, like, tiring you out too much, basically. The appeal? Well, it is rather being able to cover ground faster and in a different way compared to, like, simply walking, you see.

Like your regular tour experience, you can often expect to visit some kind of well-known spots, such as the Merlion, the Esplanade, Gardens by the Bay, and maybe even the Marina Bay Sands, very naturally. Depending on the specific tour company, routes and particular attractions, these may indeed slightly vary, actually. Tours also often include a bit of instruction on operating the Segway, some safety gear, and often some photo opportunities along the route, obviously. I would suggest to look a little bit at inclusions and exclusions with the provider before going ahead.

First Impressions: Gearing Up and Getting Ready

Segway training

The tour often started, more or less, with a quick training session on how to, you know, operate the Segway safely, in some respects. To be honest, I was very much a little nervous at first, like your regular first-timer, you see. It didn’t, in fact, take too long to get the hang of, just a little, it’s almost like balancing on a moving platform, that. The instructors that I encountered, honestly, were just patient and clear, in that case, which kind of put me at ease, you know. It’s a bit useful to arrive in advance to better familiarise yourself with the surroundings, in the same way.

We soon set off along the waterfront after the safety briefing and brief practice session, of course, The Segways, you know, seemed well-maintained, and, I mean, wearing a helmet really did make me feel more secure and that I should take it easy, you see. Before doing so, I did also do some checks online, so, arguably, there are more trusted and recognized brands out there, right?

What You’ll See: Highlights of the Tour

Merlion Singapore

The tour usually includes key points of interest, that. Riding along the scenic Marina Bay, for instance, it provided us with some very fantastic views of the Singapore skyline, right. The Merlion statue was our first stop, obviously, it’s almost iconic, you know, and it provided the best backdrop for pictures, right? What struck me about that spot in specific was actually that there was not much crowd, instead.

We then made our way through the Esplanade, that, taking in the unique architectural design, or, you know, the “durian,” as your regular locals often affectionately call it, right. After, we moved on Gardens by the Bay, that, however we had little time there as we were, too, running on a schedule. In this regard, it could be worth booking two sessions one after the other.

The Segway Experience: Is It Fun?

Riding Segway

The main question I had was, is riding a Segway basically fun, really? Well, the answer is very yes, clearly. It’s actually very relaxing and engaging to just glide along and take in the scenery around you, really. It, too, felt unique compared to, you know, regular tours; in some respects it added a fresh, that, kind of active component, really.

You might think so, anyway, a Segway also made it very simple to cover greater distances than, I mean, on foot, obviously, This meant we could, for example, experience quite a bit more of Marina Bay without actually feeling rushed, you see. Although, there was just a bit of a restriction when visiting Gardens by the Bay as, of course, we needed to park somewhere and that was just not a nearby, in a way. Anyway, the Segway felt rather secure, that.

Navigating the Crowds and the City Vibe

Marina Bay crowds

Even so, it is worth noting that Marina Bay can get, I mean, quite busy, especially during weekends and holidays, you see. Maneuvering through crowds with a Segway, to be honest, requires that little bit of extra patience and alertness, really. At peak times there could often be a brief wait at key locations, anyway.

Pay very good attention, too, to your immediate surroundings. Be super careful with the traffic lights, okay? I would then suggest that, for a much better experience, going in the morning is what you should do, anyway.

What Could Be a Little Better?

Segway charging

There were one or two aspects that could, you know, possibly be improved to push experience levels up, basically. At Gardens by the Bay, the Segway parking wasn’t, as noted, ideal, yet. This, actually, can eat into the time that’s reserved to experience the scenery and immediate sights.

Even so, make also sure that it suits you as, admittedly, a three hour duration, to be honest, it could perhaps seem quite extensive for very certain folks. Maybe, probably, a shorter version would make the experience a little accessible for some, arguably. The pricing as well isn’t on the cheaper side.

Is the Marina Bay Segway Tour Good Value?

Singapore skyscrapers

Is it a reasonable deal, that, in the context of overall entertainment and value, that is obviously very subjective, to be honest. I really found it actually quite worth it because of the, like, fun, unusual way it allowed me to actually view the iconic Singapore spots, anyway. The thrill of riding a Segway blended perfectly with seeing famous spots around Marina Bay, anyway.

But very note, you could, I think so, definitely replicate a similar experience if you’re willing to just walk around. Segway tours definitely cost you extra, of course, obviously, they save you that energy of getting from one area to another.

Tips for Your Segway Adventure

  • Make sure that you’re wearing clothes and comfy shoes because three hours, it can add up!
  • Very definitely bring water to hydrate. Singapore’s weather can get very hot.
  • Always bring sunblock and glasses; protect the skin as needed.
  • Secure anything valuable – things could always happen and there can be occasional incidents!
  • Check for group discounts, some places have them from time to time.

Final Thoughts

The Marina Bay Segway tour offers one great way of seeing Singapore. What I think made the tour experience a little impressive was basically that it was something distinct and really lets visitors encounter the area without just the boring walking! For those wanting one that combines ease, see well known sights of Singapore, or, a little bit of something novel; I’d recommend that you book, definitely. Though be reminded that you can do things very similarly simply walking!

The Good: Fun experience, get to Singapore must sees.
Could be better: Cost, a bit more freedom, parking space could also be optimised.
Final verdict: Great experience but decide for yourself, too.
