Scenic World, Zoo & Koala Photo: Honest Blue Mountains Adventure Review

Planning a trip to the Blue Mountains is certainly exciting, isn’t it? Scenic World often pops up, alongside the promise of getting up close with some furry Australian locals. Maybe you’re wondering if it lives up to all the hype. Well, I took the plunge, experienced it myself, and am sharing all about what you can expect; from those iconic views at Scenic World to the potential chaos of that must-have koala photo. Is it the kind of amazing adventure you’re hoping for, or, well, is it more of a tourist trap? I’ll cover it all, really!

What Exactly *Is* Scenic World, Anyway?

Scenic World Railway

So, what is this Scenic World people talk about? Scenic World isn’t just, say, a single lookout point. Think of it a bit more like a collection of experiences nestled right in the heart of the Blue Mountains. There is, arguably, the Scenic Railway, claiming to be the steepest passenger railway *in the whole world* which sends you shooting down into the valley floor. And there’s the Scenic Cableway, offering up pretty awesome panoramic views as you gently glide across the canopy. Finally, you have the Scenic Skyway which includes that bit where the floor is see-through. Oh yeah, and you have the Scenic Walkway. All those ways provide a very varied experience of the ancient landscape.

But look, does it deliver on its promises? Is it very fun? Let’s unpack what each element brings, what you may like, and maybe some things that could be, you know, a bit better.

Riding the Rails: The Scenic Railway

Scenic Railway Interior

Okay, so the Scenic Railway; prepare yourself for some strong sensations, maybe. This thing definitely pitches you down into the rainforest, a bit like on a crazy, steep rollercoaster. It is sort of a thrill, and the views as you plummet are kinda interesting, however it is also pretty darn quick. Before you have had the opportunity to completely register it you find yourself right at the bottom. Is it enjoyable? I guess that might depend a bit on what you consider enjoyable! It’s really less a relaxing viewing experience, and far more, you know, a quick shot of adrenaline.

Also, it can get mighty crowded. Basically expect to be packed in pretty tight with other folks. As a matter of fact that *may* actually increase the thrill for some; the feeling that is that you’re all kinda in this together! For others it can, to be honest, be kinda uncomfortable. Bear that in mind. When I think about it, personally, I’d probably go again, very quickly… simply to get a breather!

Gliding High: Scenic Cableway Experience

Scenic Cableway Exterior

Now, if plunging downwards isn’t that that you had in mind, maybe the Scenic Cableway would be more to your preference, possibly? This thing presents far more of a tranquil experience. So picture floating steadily down, taking in truly amazing views of the Three Sisters, and just the wide stretch of the Jamison Valley, which is certainly magnificent. Unlike the railway which, I suspect, will give you momentary glimpses, this thing gives you an opportunity to truly drink it all in. If you value vistas, I’d go for this, without a doubt.

That is, that’s *if* the weather is cooperating, naturally. As I am sure you are well aware the Blue Mountains are quite vulnerable to mists and cloud cover, right? If that comes about, well, your amazing panoramic views might, as a matter of fact, turn into glimpses of, basically, just thick white fog. Honestly, it might be a wise idea to, perhaps, check the weather forecast prior to purchasing your tickets. Or, maybe, maintain flexible plans, you know?

Walking on Air: Scenic Skyway Adventure

Scenic Skyway Inside

The Scenic Skyway offers something a little bit different; just like, perhaps, a floating walkway high above the valley floor. Arguably, the main event is, that is, its electro-glass floor; as a matter of fact, it becomes see-through, that is, providing you with a thrilling look downwards. Now I must admit that I kinda thought it was amazing, in that, you know, I love heights, however it might just actually instill instant dread for others! Even *I* felt slightly apprehensive if I am being honest, so brace yourself maybe.

Just like the Cableway, it gives panoramic views, obviously, however, there tends to be just a little more space to move around, or something, in the Skyway, or what? Now if you are fortunate enough to secure a spot by the window you have, of course, awesome photographic opportunities. As a matter of fact if, by some fluke, it’s *not* extremely busy you could walk across several times while experiencing the view from a totally new location! What, however, if it is busy? Well, you might just have to struggle to catch that perfect photo because it will probably be *extremely* popular!

Into the Valley: The Scenic Walkway

Scenic World Walkway

Down on the bottom there you discover the Scenic Walkway. This, incidentally, gently winds its way throughout the rainforest, which, really, is kinda a pleasing break from all the rushing around of those rides. It provides a nice, calm, natural contrast. It’s also usually significantly less crowded than those things high above, or so it appears. I would imagine a refreshing change for folks, perhaps people with youngsters, who maybe wish to stroll at their very own pace without necessarily feeling pressured by that of the throng. It’s also accessible, which means families who’ve strollers, maybe wheelchairs, have the capacity to appreciate the majesty of the rainforest, as well.

It might, of course, be a bit buggy, right? It is, really, a rainforest. Do be aware of that one. As a matter of fact you should probably bring insect repellent if you find yourself prone to bug bites. In that case this location can easily transform from the wonderful gentle amble to, say, an irritatingly itchy one. Just give it a little consideration!

Zoo Time: Featherdale Sydney Wildlife Park

Featherdale Wildlife Park Kangaroos

Now, let us come away, for just a moment, from Scenic World to, perhaps, discuss Featherdale Sydney Wildlife Park. Several Blue Mountains trips incorporate this. Here’s the short version, I think: Featherdale actually presents you with an absolutely wonderful possibility to view Australian wildlife up close, almost intimately. I’m talking kangaroos, wallabies, wombats; that cute assortment of Aussie critters everyone loves.

Okay, there is something though; while Scenic World and Featherdale tend to be packaged together, right, Featherdale isn’t really *in* the Blue Mountains. You have probably travelled a chunk of the distance back towards Sydney to visit this location, by the way. I want to stress, and say it again, that is *not* an awesome problem, simply it is useful to learn about! If you are thinking of enjoying a spontaneous and interesting hike in the Blue Mountains right after communing with kangaroos, perhaps? You probably can’t.

Hand-Feeding the Roos and More

Feed Kangaroos Featherdale

What you *can* do is definitely interact directly with many of the animals; that can really prove a huge highlight for families. They generally give you the chance to get food to hand-feed kangaroos. That’s a very big thing for kids (and adults maybe)! As a matter of fact there’s an opportunity to view, for instance, the Tasmanian devils (pretty vicious actually!), plus cuddle a dingo (they are surprisingly cuddly)!, or maybe witness other demonstrations and feedings. It all combines to truly give you an interesting understanding of Australia’s very varied fauna. What do I think? I loved it! I truly liked watching the animals, I guess, it felt a little bit less touristy than certain parts of Scenic World.

The Big Moment: Koala Photo Op

Koala Photo

Right, let us talk koalas! A lot of Blue Mountains trips seem to contain this irresistible chance to take a picture with a koala, or what. Here, typically, the setting can either be Featherdale, or maybe an *additional* wildlife park, that is based upon your selected tour option, that’s probably true.

Here is the actual. Sure, it could be very cute and awesome to hold that cute fluffy koala and maybe capture that memorable moment, right? However, there are a few things to think about. It might be an expensive supplement, to begin. Secondly, *lots* of other folks probably will have a similar concept, therefore you must accept the concept there may actually be lengthy queues. Then there exists that very point; how do *you* feel about close, really touristy animal encounters, or what? This can vary, you realize. Many find it completely wonderful to actually cuddle a koala. Personally I am, potentially, a bit uncertain about animal experiences in that kind of place. Consider your personal personal stance, yeah?

Is the Koala Photo Worth It?

Koala Sleeping

Look, if cuddling that koala ranks as an absolute must-do for you, next, fine. So make an appointment for that supplement, even if it may not always represent great value. If, but if, however, you tend to be ambivalent, next it’s, perhaps, a money-saving point to think about giving that a miss. Personally? Viewing them is *fine* for me. Just allow me to take pictures and carry on.

Making it Happen: Planning your Visit

Blue Mountains View

Alright, you feel ready, don’t you? Next, I’ll explain several recommendations for preparing your own Blue Mountains visit incorporating Scenic World, alongside some likely animal experiences.

First, you really must make an early start; I probably needn’t mention that but I’m going to. The Blue Mountains can be a famous day trip, and especially Scenic World will get really extremely busy, specifically throughout peak seasons. And then, as I’ve been repeating over and over and over: Keep that weather eye open; consider what the weather is gonna be; I think it is probably obvious right? I did explain all that though. It might very much influence that which you can and can’t see. Thirdly, there’s travel. Should you plan to drive, make certain that you leave ample time to reach there (traffic tends to be unpredictable). On the other hand, there is definitely an advantage of getting a bus trip from Sydney, maybe relaxing and forgetting those parking complications completely. Now, of course, you have made a good evaluation of travel to and from Scenic World? Or even Sydney to Featherdale? You have? Good stuff!

Ultimately I do advise assessing package choices really carefully to observe just what’s included, to make sure that you choose one which truly fulfils your individual interests. Do not blindly imagine one which states you’re “gonna see *absolutely* everything”, so ensure there’s time in the itinerary to accomplish just what *you* expect. So, by all means, do make this truly individual, and all the best!
