Sao Miguel Furnas Tour: A Detailed Review

So, you’re thinking about hopping on the Sao Miguel Island Full Day Furnas and Furnas Lake Tour? That sounds like, well, it sounds like quite a good idea! That place, it’s almost magical. I want to share my experience, insights, and recommendations, you know, everything to, like, make your trip truly unforgettable. It’s really quite a different place.

A First Look at Furnas

Furnas Village

Furnas is this special little area in the eastern part of Sao Miguel, that being one of the islands in the Azores. It’s so unique, really; it’s snuggled inside this inactive volcanic crater, you see? And right away, you can feel a difference. The air kind of smells like minerals, a bit eggy maybe, from the volcanic activity, but that’s part of the deal, it’s quite the draw actually. So, the valley is green, so so so very very green, and the whole area just feels like it’s alive. The combination of steaming vents, that picture perfect lake, and the attractive village sort of blends nature with the local culture. A lot of travelers go see it and I was keen to go too.

What You Might See on the Tour

Furnas Tour Highlights

Basically, the full-day tour usually involves a bunch of appealing stops. Of course, each tour, you know, varies just a little, that really goes without saying, but you’ll often see some popular spots. You tend to find the tours stop at the Caldeiras das Furnas, which is basically, that’s where the volcanic activity is super evident, that is with all the hot springs and fumaroles and the whole steaming vents business I mentioned previously. It’s often, it’s often a chance to sample corn that’s been cooked in the ground utilizing that underground heat too which is just awesome really, it is something a little different to experience for sure. It’s almost like the earth is, well, cooking lunch for you!

After that, what could be next? well you often end up seeing Furnas Lake; that view there, right, is almost too pretty to really describe. So, often, the tours involve seeing the Chapel of Nossa Senhora das Vitórias which sits there right at the edge of the lake and so its image gets wonderfully reflected in the water. I’ve seen many of it online before I even visited! Now, near that lake, lots of tours actually show the special “cozido” being dug up too. Cozido is a stew that, I’m saying, cooks underground for many hours, and seeing them take it out is very memorable. Lunch usually tends to feature this cozido, so too you get to enjoy the reward of that cool underground cooking process!

So, you tend to also find that the tour includes visiting the Terra Nostra Garden too which really should be on anyone’s Sao Miguel sightseeing list, it seems to me. That garden has these unreal collections of vegetation and a big thermal swimming pool. Swimming in that bright orange pool that is because it has minerals can really make for one cool and memorable experience that really I suggest you get yourself in for if you like being adventurous or, you know, like things a bit unique. Anyway you’ll probably visit another viewpoint spot like Pico do Ferro and that gives you a very full view of the whole Furnas Valley too it does.

Experiencing the Caldeiras das Furnas

Caldeiras das Furnas

Visiting the Caldeiras das Furnas can be really like, is that the correct wording, it’s really like stepping onto another planet. So, the ground is warm, alright, very very warm even in places, that is that steam’s rising all around you, and there’s like these bubbling pools. Be aware that the smell can be strong, that of sulfur of course, that could be an issue that should get a warning to you if, very much, you’re kind of sensitive to it. So, it’s something you absolutely have to accept, that’s almost that the volcanic activity is right there in your face, and it’s not as something you see, but as a full-body thing that is just awesome. Be aware that you’re visiting nature so there is, usually, no walking required, but sometimes there are some spots of it in order to get good pictures! This I guess isn’t a guided bushwalk though so, like, you tend to be sticking to already established paths with it.

That Gorgeous Furnas Lake

Furnas Lake Chapel

Furnas Lake can be really like one of those spots which appears on all the picture postcards, just something worth treasuring you could say. So, there is, too it’s almost quietness, that peaceful atmosphere. You just have to enjoy the water’s edge area, the calm there tends to make it perfect for meditation or, well, perhaps just, I suppose, appreciating the peace and that quiet. That lake really is something. So, you often find lots of folk taking photos there and that’s, like, clearly a good shout because you’re probably, like, want something visual there just to remind you how picture-perfect that lake really tends to be. And seeing the chapel? In the end, very gorgeous with its appearance being really nicely shown in that reflective lake!

Lunchtime: Tasting the Cozido das Furnas

Cozido das Furnas

Cozido das Furnas, now, can be more than simply just a lunchtime thing that is really just an adventure! It is all done with slow cooking underground with geothermal heat and with layer upon layer upon layer of tasty meats and fresh local tasty tasty veg which has absorbed each unique element of this environment with each forkful of flavour. You often find that most of the restaurants close by provide Cozido, alright, so you could often see all sorts of different adaptations which, so too, usually offer options if in the end you’d fancy maybe things that are a little less traditional on account that that stew thing that has just sat under the ground may appear a little frightening maybe! Anyway you should experience that unique and rare meal though for all sorts of memories as well as experiences there with it. Cozido is so tied into that landscape, alright.

Terra Nostra Garden: So Much Lushness

Terra Nostra Garden

Spending a chunk of time there at the Terra Nostra Garden can be really special; I mean it is just what it is, isn’t it? That greenery’s gorgeous, alright, loads of hidden little sections and cool wee trails. In some respects, if I wanted I could say there could be so many opportunities available with this or with that aspect to capture the gorgeousness that Terra Nostra gives off here to one, to everybody. What makes this place really popular as I understand it could well be down with the mineral pool for which some of the tourists visiting, too, use it to get photos or the mineral mud too for making the place interesting to have at the place as a means of a nice time out, I gather anyway. It’s a must to get to these botanic garden, it’s often on that to-do list on arrival in The Azores. Take this opportunity so we can experience what it offers. Right?

Booking Your Trip

Booking Sao Miguel Tour

If you like what you’re hearing you are going to, I might suggest, go book that tour alright? Check, basically, to see whatever the tours do give you, too. Have that look to what’s provided with, also like maybe if all charges come together with those advertised rates that the travel firms sell it on too, so in some respects that it makes it really worthwhile if in the end everything is actually covered and also maybe like, possibly, what happens for food, and other potential considerations which might make all the more important what choices become open if in the end we end with different kinds for any potential dietary restrictions.

Remember always reading different kinds of reviews there, from all sources, just with so much better detail with many potential holiday options and with better value too so, again, people might feel at complete relaxation. Look closely what you get as that might sway any individual making important arrangements for your important exploration period to any really really lovely spot in any parts inside our planet.
