Salerno Cruise Review: Amalfi Stop & Light Lunch, Is It Worth It?

Picture this: You, me, the gleaming Tyrrhenian Sea, and also the breath taking Amalfi Coast sort of right there. That whole setting is pretty awesome, right? It is. I actually went on this ‘From Salerno Cruise with Amalfi Stop and Light Lunch,’ and very, very, honestly, I wanted to share, you know, my own experiences with you, like your potential future self. I figure, in that case, you will get the truth, the complete truth, and absolutely nothing besides the truth! Did the trip kind of give those iconic coastal views? Yeah, that’s right. Did the ‘light lunch’ completely ruin that fantastic time? Well, that’s like a story for a different time. Here’s, actually, what you could potentially expect, and if it really suits what you’re actually trying to find.

What You Need To Know About the Salerno Departure

Salerno Port

Salerno, you see, is often overshadowed by its oh-so-glamorous neighbor, that is Naples, like your quirky older brother. But trust me, as a matter of fact, Salerno is pretty charming, yeah? So, too it’s almost like the jumping-off spot for your cruise adventure. This spot, you know, offers a few different upsides:

  • It is, very, very, very much easier to get to compared to like, say, Positano and Amalfi.
  • There are, arguably, way fewer tourists than those well known places, so there’s much better pizza without having to shove around hordes of visitors
  • You can actually get to grips with the ‘real’ Southern Italy with pretty much none of the nonsense!

It all started there at the harbor of Salerno. Getting there could be pretty painless. You’ll arrive pretty quickly by train from Naples or also maybe the surrounding cities. When I stepped off of my train, I made it to the harbor with like a fifteen-minute walk, but there also might be bus routes for all you kind of weary people out there. There’s quite a bit of waiting around that takes place at the harbor. And then getting everyone checked in is also a process, so bringing that very much needed cup of coffee for, say, an energy boost is possibly worth the investment, right?

Sailing into Paradise: Coastal Views That Amaze

Amalfi Coast Views

Okay, enough of that, as I was saying, let’s just focus on that real treasure. You should see the views that show up once that boat leaves Salerno’s harbor – It could just give you goosebumps, like your flesh is actually rising to the sky itself. This, you know, is where this journey sort of shines, kind of like the noonday sun reflecting over the surface of Neptune himself! The Amalfi Coast basically shows itself in stages, that, too, are each more glorious than whatever was actually before it.

Every cliffside village could be that cute picture postcard waiting for you.

  • Picturesque Cetara just happens to be the first on the trip: Famous for the delightful anchovy sauce. I can still, very, very clearly remember seeing those colorful homes basically stacked high up in those hills.
  • Maiori and Minori come later and are just more of those oh-so-classic Italian beauty spots. At one point there, the tour guide basically started giving various histories behind these little towns. Though, if that is not what you want, they often had quiet zones to chill on deck to, you know, drink everything in without a verbal description of every door, right?

Between each, in short, of these various locations, there are all those crazy panoramic opportunities. Bring your camera for, you know, like your digital companions – very much a crime not to! I just could not believe those photo stops they gave so there was actually time to grab great memories. You should just try and find somewhere out on the very edges of that boat so you do not have somebody’s elbow sticking right into like your precious Amalfi photo!

The Amalfi Stop: Brief but Breath Taking

Amalfi Town

We arrived at Amalfi, alright, to a hoard of boats kind of jockeying around for position, similar to, maybe, a water traffic jam! This bit just felt somewhat rushed, and with just one hour in the area, yeah?, so I will give some kind of honest insights as to what I would recommend for all you kind of planners out there:

  • Try not to shop – just avoid all the souvenir shops or artisan displays, instead focus on being quick so as to take in all your immediate environs..
  • Church First – Just race to the Amalfi Cathedral straight away so you are actually going to witness some truly impressive art and have a spiritual moment.
  • Grab Gelato Pronto – You have to pick up ice cream while right there! I had like a lemon delight which basically refreshed those batteries and prepped those buds on my tongue!

In short, like, this very brief taste to the city just actually showed me why you’ve just got to dedicate way more time there to take that all in. I had a good time. My pictures could never capture the essence and all the majesty of that area, you see? But it would’ve actually been fantastic to wander those windy streets at ease.

Lunch On Board: More ‘Light’ Than Delightful?

Italian Lunch

Right, so you might think: cruising with, say, stunning scenery along with eating local food? Is that right up like your street? Honestly that might sound good, yeah? Well this can be, perhaps, the low-point, you know, for this actual cruise. ‘Light’ I should suggest is being pretty generous over that statement. Instead expect something akin to a grab-and-go sandwich which actually is just alright and could maybe pass at gas stations.

There are actually a few alternatives that you could take instead however. I saw, I want to say, two or maybe even three other tourists consuming takeout food on this deck, so you could be in with them when packing a lunch? Additionally, should I suggest you fancy spending a pretty penny then those harbors during your stops provide that chance to get amazing meals (though it might mean less exploring).

Overall Vibes & Final Thoughts

Happy Couple Cruise

This Amalfi cruise tour just comes, yeah, very highly recommended because of some incredible coast scenery. But then keep those other components in mind. In order to see and actually feel the essence of all Amalfi, or maybe have authentic lunch that is more filling, and, too it’s almost worth researching all your options! As I was saying, should those views of Amalfi be exactly what suits your dreams (plus possibly topping those moments up with extra food), then this cruise may be like your ideal match!
