Review: Starry Nights in Morocco’s Erg Chigaga Desert
Have you ever dreamed of, like, seeing a sky so full of stars that it felt, that it felt like you could reach out and touch them? I mean, really? Well, if so, Erg Chigaga in the Sahara Desert could be just a spot, a special place for your next adventure. Getting to experience the Majesty of Starry Nights in Erg Chigaga, Morocco is, basically, something that sticks with you, like, really sticks with you. It’s more than just a trip; it’s, well, sort of, an experience that changes your view, it changes how you see things, of our pretty incredible cosmos. But, honestly, to make the most of it, it is helpful to understand a little something, a couple things beforehand.
Why Erg Chigaga Stands Out
So, what, what actually makes Erg Chigaga, really kind of different from other desert spots? It’s not just that it’s, sort of, another pile of sand. That is that Erg Chigaga, actually, sits further out there, farther into the Sahara than, say, Erg Chebbi, which is more often visited by people. Because of where it is, the landscape is more undisturbed. That is that there aren’t that many tourists around. It is a bit, truly, more tough to get to. Getting there is very, truly, part of what makes going so rewarding. Getting to it keeps away big crowds, and because there are almost, nearly, no city lights to interfere, so the stargazing is, really, just unbelievably better. So, unlike places that might have resorts sort of close by, Erg Chigaga is properly, wonderfully remote. That, is you get a kind of peace that is, well, pretty hard to find.
Planning Your Visit: Timing and Preparation
Okay, you’re into the concept. You find, that, maybe Erg Chigaga is, like, calling to you. But then what? What’s next? So, here’s what I have got for you: planning is key. It turns out, the most enjoyable times to go are during the shoulder seasons – that’s, you see, from like, basically, October to November and March to April. These times provide temperatures that, they aren’t so bad, actually, are more bearable than the intensive high heat in the summertime. Booking a trip requires picking a local trip planner, one that really understands the desert and emphasizes, properly emphasizes, safety and sustainable travel. Then you get there. As for, that is packing. Lightweight, it must be breathable clothing, and also don’t forget sturdy footwear; it’s always helpful. Protection from the sun, like hats and sunglasses, are helpful and so is carrying lots and lots of water, so those are the things you’re likely to want to think about.
Experiencing the Starry Nights
Now, let’s, basically, chat about what you’re really there to enjoy: like the Starry Nights. Believe me, really, the sight will blow you away. Just imagine, standing atop a big sand dune, looking out into an unbelievably sky brimming and abundant in starlight. I am talking countless stars; it seems infinite. The clearness, of this infinite, is, almost, unreal since there is literally very little pollution of light. I am pretty sure you might see the Milky Way arching overhead in, like, stunning detail. Take, similarly to, your camera, or perhaps a telescope. So you might get some photographs of, basically, our galaxy’s magnificence, or a shot of another celestial body. If you’re anything, similar to, me, then you might simply wish to absorb it, taking mental photographs, with, so to speak, the naked eye. The silence out there, really, except perhaps for a light, almost inaudible desert breeze, sort of enhances the magical feels.
Activities and Accommodation
Besides soaking up, you know, those fantastic skies, there are a lot, lot more ways you might spend your time in Erg Chigaga. Many tours involve camel rides, which are really, actually, an wonderful way to get a closer look at and even observe the desert at a peaceful, at a gentle pace. If camels, if this particular thing, aren’t really your cup of tea, then you might want to think about going, more or less, on a 4×4 adventure to see more, far more of the place. Another wonderful, almost breathtaking, activity would be sandboarding down big dunes. As the days come to their closing and go out, and end so that there’s less and less of the day, evenings spent at the local nomadic camps that are, typically, available offer, I might say, an insight in to, that is cultural enrichment of the Berber living tradition. That could be an wonderful cultural experience. These camps usually include conventional dinners as well, and local musicians perform which add some, some life to your desert nights.
Responsible Travel in Erg Chigaga
Anytime you go visit someplace, really, particularly a location with this, with that degree of ecological sensitivity, really thinking and acting conscientiously, that is that is what it is really about. If it can at all be avoided, minimize waste through things like carrying water bottles that you, that you personally can reuse, also then take all of the rubbish you generate out when you leave. When, and that is if, you are there make sure, really be very attentive about all the local wildlife and do not bother the animal populations. It tends to be important and can at times be helpful that you decide on and choose local tour companies who, well, put conservation high up in what matters to them, and you’re okay, more or less helping promote tourism in a manner that, to be clear, safeguards this exceptional setting for all to go visit later, I would say, later visits and tourists.
