First Impressions and the Valletta Vibe

Alright, stepping into the restaurant, or rather, the entranceway, was somewhat like being whisked away, perhaps to a trattoria somewhere in the heart of Italy, or at the very least, that’s just what I was thinking. You know, the warm lighting, maybe the smell of garlic kind of hanging in the air, is that a bit cliché? Perhaps! It did create the expectation that something nice was about to happen. And then Valletta herself. Is it only me, or is there this special something that the city air holds? With its stunning old buildings and that feeling like everything is just kind of vibrating, as though with history, I could not have imagined a spot much more perfect for what turned out to be, honestly, a lovely, or just kinda nice, evening.

The Menu: A Glimpse of Italy in Malta

Right, looking over the menu, you understand that somebody has spent a good while really making it work. We found classic Italian eats alongside things that, well, I have never come across, ever! Or, should I phrase it differently: old friends with some fascinating newcomers. Because I was so hungry, I settled on starting with the burrata. Does that count as boring? I sure hope not because the combination of a tomato and something that tasted kinda like a balsamic glaze… it really really worked. What could be next?

Pasta Perfection and Pescatarian Delights

Anyway, for the entree I, as a guy who likes seafood just a little too much, opted for one of the specials that included clams. Now, I may not remember the proper way to spell the fancy type of pasta, but it really wasn’t the words I will hold close but rather the flavor! It was tasty. And just a bit garlicky which might not be great if you are looking to head out clubbing immediately after your food, but it worked great for me. The pasta dish did come at a premium, and while I would rather not provide exact numbers because prices fluctuate like crazy, you should very much expect that it is a ‘special’ dish, if you get my meaning. It isn’t going to be just sort of in line with the rest of the choices.

Service and Ambiance: Setting the Mood

So, what actually lifted the dining experience from ‘kinda nice’ to seriously something special, was what it felt like to exist inside the building. You had people moving at the correct speeds, always near but never actually there! It might be odd to say it this way, but if there is one thing that absolutely turns me off to most places, that could be overly hovering staff. It almost seems like they are more busy then I am to be served. Very strange! However, they didn’t. They knew their stuff. Like if I wanted something, I did not actually have to flag somebody down.

Final Thoughts: Is It Worth It?

Basically, should you go to this Italian place in Valletta? Like, in short? Assuming that what I have said lines up with your expectations and wishes then yes! So what should you be expecting? Just like I already mentioned: high costs, solid eats, and what seemed to be, really great and almost unbelievably natural personnel.

And the Valletta location itself… wow! Is it only me who enjoys just kinda strolling aimlessly following a food coma, seeing how this small European island nation works and what it means to call the place ‘home’?

Anyways, overall, I would advise that anyone seriously look into trying what I had that day. A good time and some killer memories that will last you longer than just one day, but forever! That could happen. Good for you! I am just a food reviewer.

I could ramble more, but here are what to expect, as a TL;DR of sorts:

  • Great cuisine at the meal.
  • Nice, genuine people providing service.
  • Expensive-ish overall!
  • Killer place in an unbelievable spot on Earth.

Give this spot a go!
