Review: Private Mexico City Tour to Puebla and Cholula

Review: Private Mexico City Tour to Puebla and Cholula

Getting out of Mexico City to explore other parts of the country seemed like something that would make the trip more fun, right? I recently took a private day excursion to Puebla and Cholula, and so this is about how it actually turned out. This outing promises a deep look at colonial architecture and old spots. Was it worth it? Did it give some cool cultural experiences? Here is what happened.

Setting off from Mexico City

The trip started super early. So, you leave Mexico City, which is, well, you know, big, and start traveling, like your destination is Puebla. That drive? It’s a bit more than two hours. During it, the cityscape kinda, almost, fades, that’s right, into hills. The guide with me? He had great information on all kinds of stuff about what’s happening in Mexico – culture, history – you name it. It really helped set things up nicely, don’t you think?

And, I gotta say, having someone take care of everything is pretty nice. Driving around in a place that you do not know that well? It is a lot, I would guess, but this excursion had transportation figured out and that allowed you to actually relax and look out at everything without worrying about what the heck is going to happen next, is that right?

First Stop: Cholula and its Big Pyramid

Cholula Great Pyramid

Cholula, that’s a spot with some very long history and what used to be a pretty big pre-Hispanic location. It features the Tlachihualtepetl, which folks believe is one huge pyramid. It’s actually bigger than the ones you’ve probably seen pictures of in Egypt! Okay, I mean, very huge is relative. So, this pyramid’s mostly grassed over, that is, with a church planted right up on top – called the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios. Now, if you get into a lot of stairs, it gives you some fantastic, amazing views, even though they can really wind you, okay? That church? You could argue that it is actually quite something.

So, you get the background on how Cholula has mixed stuff from way back and some colonial influences; it makes you think, right? We looked at the tunnels running through that pyramid, too. Doing that lets you know just how enormous it truly is, too it’s almost like people just keep building things on top of things!

Puebla: Where Talavera Tile is King

Next stop was Puebla. This place? Super colonial looking. Puebla’s downtown has been named a UNESCO World Heritage site because of the style in the buildings and just how nice the old constructions are. That cathedral there? Super amazing. Then all the buildings coated with this cool Talavera tile? Adds such charm.

So, you walked down streets lined with stores, actually. This time was for sampling regional food and finding something really awesome that looks cool. Mole poblano is very popular, right? That’s, so it seems, complex and something you must try there, I think. This area is kinda great to explore bit by bit. Then you start spotting stuff. Little plazas. That kinda, you know, thing, right?

Plus, I stopped by a pottery shop. I am fond of the local art thing, you know? Seeing individuals create work that represents where they come from… that is something I enjoy. So, buying little pottery keepsakes that, hopefully, are amazing? Not that big a deal, that is fair.

A Little Look at the Secret Convent of Santa Monica

One other stop was made: that’s to this place, Secret Convent of Santa Monica. Now, that? Extremely neat. Back a long time ago, it had to go underground, you know? The Reform Laws were in play then. Being guided around? Kinda interesting. Made me appreciate everything individuals gave up in order to stay firm on what they actually believed.

Is getting into a look at a secret convent the finest time you can ever imagine? So, likely it will not make or break the trip for most people. That is something important to admit. That, that would mean, like your expectations could get kinda high if convents are extremely amazing to you. You’re right, right?

Back to Mexico City

Mexico City night

That ride back that evening gives one more chance to think all the experiences that they had about that day, right? So, after checking out old spots in both Cholula and Puebla and tasting that great regional fare? I can say, well, yes! Totally! It’s, like your something great when you want that very curated look outside what one usually gets in Mexico City.

I would have to imagine spending that cash to take that exclusive trip. Well, if your resources can deal with that much strain? It will be okay. But, if all your money could kinda be tight then this excursion might hurt more, might it? This excursion has worth because having someone with all kinds of history information makes viewing places way nicer, more thoughtful, maybe even smarter!

Now you get a glimpse into historic towns right nearby Mexico City. That means something; seeing architecture. Hearing cultural details and knowing you’re getting about, all with someone dedicated to guiding? Definitely feels fantastic.
