Review: Is the Zurich, Basel, Colmar Private Day Tour Really Worth It?

Planning a trip from Zurich and thinking about that day tour to Basel and Colmar, aren’t you? Well, let’s consider this like chatting about if it’s actually something special, too, right? This is not just another one of those “travel guide” type things, but think of it as me just giving you the lowdown after giving it a shot myself. I’m going to give you all I know after checking it out myself, so stick around!

First Impressions: Setting Off From Zurich

Zurich Switzerland

So, picture this: It’s morning in Zurich. Like your tour is kicking off. I thought it would be something crazy complicated trying to get picked up, see? Well, turns out that I did worry about all of that for nothing! Actually, the ride came straight to where I was, and they were on time, too. And it all just sort of kicked off from there! That first car ride felt promising; kind of how it feels when your vacation actually takes off without any crazy problems!

Basel: A Blend of History and Modernity

Basel Switzerland

We arrived in Basel. First, the Old Town. That’s where everything actually began. You kind of wander down the cobblestone streets and stuff, like, the same ones that people probably walked hundreds of years ago. Next, was the Basel Minster with that building having that pink sandstone that’s very much impossible to just ignore. This place kind of stands there all impressive, you know? Also, they told stories about Basel. I remember liking one particularly: how the city sort of sits where Switzerland, France, and Germany basically meet, that does give it all its very unique feeling.

Colmar: A Taste of France in Alsace

Colmar France

And then it was on to Colmar. This city is basically straight out of some storybook, pretty much. Think little canals. Like those in Venice and homes that have these little flowery boxes by the window, too. We just walked around “Little Venice” (Petite Venise). I’m not saying it really rivals Venice itself, that is. Still, something there has a charm all its own. We had some food there that was local. If you visit I would very much recommend trying a Tarte Flambée. Very good! Oh, also, don’t forget that picture by the canals for when you visit; everyone else does it, actually!

The Private Tour Advantage: Personalized Experience

Private Tour

Here is something you might want to know. All this, well, it was my private tour, right? No waiting for big groups of folks. This also let me go where I wanted, very nearly. This happened when I ended up just taking an extra 10 at that pastry shop that grabbed my eye. Also, our guide made it good with lots of facts and interesting history. You do not actually get any of that from those ordinary tours they always pack with folks!

Food and Drink: Local Delights

Local Food and Drink

Now let’s talk food. Oh, man! Basel’s has these ginger cookies that, when it’s around Christmas time, everybody seems to be enjoying. What I was just talking about earlier, in Colmar? Very tasty. The wine? I just think, “Yes. Go for it,” ok? Get one made locally; people are kind about just offering some recommendations for those very good choices.

Things to Consider: Is This Trip for You?

Things to Consider

Before you actually pull the trigger, alright? Is all of this stuff really going to keep you busy, maybe? It sure involves some car time; if car rides tend to make you cranky? Look out. Also, just because it’s a private trip? It costs just a bit more bread than a group situation; but some don’t mind if the flexibility just seems worth it! What’s important to you? Just sort of size things up, too, yeah?

Final Thoughts: Was It Worth It?

Was It Worth It

I have to be fair. Was the money and time worth it? Oh yeah. Definitely! Sure you hit some awesome stops. I mean, it sounds just that easy to enjoy both Swiss calm plus that cute French touch. If all that clicks well with you, I’d totally just book the trip in an instant, honestly.
