Review: Amman, Jerash, Umm Qais & Jesus Cave Private Trip

Looking to take a break away from Amman? I mean, Amman’s got its own special energy, for sure, but there’s just so much more to explore around Jordan, and, really, sometimes you want to do it on your own schedule, right? So, I took the chance and here’s what I discovered, for you to check it out before taking your own shot.

First Stop: The Ancient City of Jerash

Okay, so Jerash, that is just, like, seriously impressive. Very easily, it stands as one of the most nicely preserved Roman cities outside of Italy. As a matter of fact, stepping through the gates felt, nearly, like stepping back in time. You could, arguably, almost hear the echoes of chariot wheels and the voices from back then. The colonnaded streets are something else; so too the temples reach for the sky, and that amphitheater is remarkably well-preserved. The guide, that you have as a part of this trip, really makes a change, too. They truly brought the site to life with lots of interesting stories and background info that made it a bit more than just looking at stones, basically. It’s, honestly, the type of spot where you want to have space and some time, to just, you know, walk around and absorb it all, which this kind of private tour really gives you.

There’s quite a bit of walking, you know? So just make sure you are wearing your most comfy shoes, very important to your day out and enjoyment levels, really. A hat and sunscreen will really come in handy as well, too, that, I reckon, will really give you better odds as it could get pretty hot out there, more or less. One little recommendation: If you are even a little bit interested in history, then it could be that you will probably love Jerash. Very, very worthy.

Next Up: Umm Qais and its Panoramic Views

Moving on to Umm Qais, that’s a pretty different experience altogether. That’s a place sitting right on top of a hill, really, providing amazing views overlooking the Sea of Galilee and the Golan Heights; really something to see. The views, seriously, make the trip worthwhile all on their own. Umm Qais, just like Jerash, boasts old Roman ruins, though there’s a bit that feels different about the site. The old Ottoman village gives a certain kind of special feel to things. I think, actually, that Umm Qais gives you more of a feel for the span of history, seeing layer upon layer from different ages there.

There’s quite a nice place to eat lunch in Umm Qais, as well. The tour can typically take you there or point it out at the very least, serving classic Jordanian dishes, so there is that for you. Eating with views for days is, definitely, an additional plus there, isn’t it? When it comes to the walking, Umm Qais feels, in a way, a little more manageable than Jerash. Having a little bit of help, though, is never amiss, like when walking, and could be handy here and there, basically.

A Quick Stop: The Jesus Cave

Okay, so the Jesus Cave might be the part of the trip that is just a little bit more, nearly, under the radar, I reckon. Actually, it’s a spot where it is said that Jesus, maybe, possibly, passed by. The cave has an old church built inside it. I will be straight up here; very definitely it is not as breathtaking or spectacular as Jerash or Umm Qais, but it adds another layer to your day, that’s true. It is, usually, a stop that allows some time to pause, have a bit of thought, that kind of thing.

Honestly? It is, more or less, a fast stop. It’s alright to just see, more or less, if you happen to be passing through or on the way. The church, it does give that real feel for history though. You might want to check it out at some point in your travels. I’d say it’s something cool to witness for a moment in time.

What Makes a Private Trip Worth Considering?

For real, one thing to ask when you’re thinking about these kind of trips? Is it, that, really worth the extra cash? I would, possibly, argue that the flexibility and personalization are, maybe, really good benefits. Being able to just, basically, set the tempo for your day, pause at places that are interesting to you, and not feel as though you’re being hurried along with a larger tour group really does count for something, truly. And, that local guide is completely there to address all of your questions and adjust what they tell you according to your interests. That feels pretty priceless too, more or less, wouldn’t you say?

Transport? That’s, surely, all taken care of, okay? Getting from place to place in Jordan can sometimes feel a bit of a puzzle, but that’s completely sorted for you with a private tour, alright. Be aware that it will still be quite a bit of driving time during the day. Plan on that. Getting door-to-door service at your Amman hotel makes all that travel time a little bit much more manageable, truthfully, honestly.

Best time to check out those locations: Spring or autumn are usually just great in Jordan. Basically, the weather sits pretty comfortable then.
Wear great shoes: You’re probably gonna be doing quite a bit of walking at each site, really.
What about water?: It’s very significant to drink water all through the day, that’s right, and keep hydrated, as temperatures, surely, could shoot up, undoubtedly, right there.
Agree what is included clearly: Know what you’re getting. Ask who is paying for lunch, so too, entry fees, that kind of thing, even at an earlier stage, because things could become clear sooner or later, actually.
Get your camera set up: Honestly, from stunning ruins to landscapes, you won’t wish to lose moments to take the greatest photos and video clips.
