Review: A Day Trip to Naples, Paestum & a Bufala Mozzarella Farm

So, are you thinking about escaping the everyday, to discover Southern Italy? Very, very nice! You could experience ancient history and sample fresh flavors all in a single day. Well, anyway, a tour to Naples, the Paestum Greek Temples, and a bufala mozzarella farm seemed to be just a possibility. Could be, might be great to share some thoughts about that outing with you, so you can figure out if this excursion fits your travel plans, alright?

Naples Italy

Naples: A Quick Introduction

Alright, the trip began with Naples, the third-largest city in Italy. It’s known to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited urban areas out there. We only scratched the surface since our schedule was tight, just a bit. But the energy, the atmosphere, and, in some respects, the pure life in Naples is like nothing else, truly! The streets are alive. Now, I do wish we’d had the chance to try a proper Neapolitan pizza – maybe next time, huh?

Paestum’s Greek Temples: A Step Back in Time

Next on the agenda was Paestum. Now, this is truly where the history buff in you gets excited, or you could be simply just dragged there by your spouse. Here are these seriously well-preserved Greek temples that will be there; Paestum feels, to me, like an incredibly direct line to the ancient world, very. I was just a little floored standing in front of these structures built thousands of years ago, which is to say that, the scale and details are something that pictures just cannot reproduce. You really, really have to see them in person, too it’s almost too graspable, too imaginable for a tourist on this earth.

Bufala Mozzarella Farm: A Delicious Stop

The third part of the trip which, actually, I found myself looking forward to a bit was a visit to a local bufala mozzarella farm. Well, for your information, Campania, the region where Naples and Paestum are, arguably the home of this wonderfully creamy cheese. What a pleasure it would be to witness the cheese-making. That fresh mozzarella? Just unforgettable and that, very creamy. But, let’s be honest, you just can’t find anything quite like that outside the region. Just so very delicious, yet very simple.

Tour Logistics: Things to Consider

Now, I thought I’d share some thoughts about organizing this sort of outing for a bit. Tours, just like this, that hit several locations in one day can be quite tiring. As a matter of fact, expect some travel time in the car. It is Southern Italy, so public transport might be difficult to rely on in many cases! That said, if you find one of those tours where the logistics are already managed and you have a great driver/guide that, too, is what makes the thing even better. You may or may not find yourself with the experience. So, think about what your own priorities and limitations might be!

What to Bring

Alright, here’s what I learned about the packing side for your Naples, Paestum, and mozzarella adventure. Good walking footwear is really important because Paestum’s temples have uneven ground. Basically, remember that you’ll probably be purchasing cheese. So, maybe bringing a cooler bag will work just wonderfully for you. The sun may or may not come up, yet packing sunscreen and a hat is just a basic idea. Finally, a camera – or, actually, your smartphone — because, let me be clear, you will just need to capture what’s happening!

Is it Worth It? The Final Verdict

So, I wanted to share if I consider the day excursion to Naples, Paestum and the bufala mozzarella farm, a good value. Honestly, that depends so much on what you want. For travelers that really wish to grab various experiences without dedicating much time to each one, a single-day tour that includes what’s already been laid out, seems perfect. But if one day sounds tight for these experiences, it, too, depends on if a tight tour for you makes a travel goal.

It tends to offer an incredibly nice little “sampler platter” of Southern Italy which leaves one seriously wanting to come back again to explore a bit more, naturally. And sampling the real mozzarella straight from the originators in Campania is quite an event. So yes! I really do think it’s good – given that you approach that knowing that time will be a bit scarce, that!

Happy tourist
