Review: A 2-Day Bus Getaway from Fukuoka to Hiroshima via Yamaguchi

So, you’re maybe thinking about doing a bit of a different trip, are you? How about a two-day bus ride going from Fukuoka to Hiroshima, you know, with a stop in Yamaguchi thrown in for fun? Sounds kinda cool, right? I, actually, took this exact trip recently, and I thought I would chat about my experiences to, maybe, give you a little information if you’re thinking of going down a similar road. Basically, this isn’t going to be your typical bullet-point travel guide; it’s, very, going to be more of me telling you how things went, what I saw, and if I reckon it was, kinda, worth it. Let’s, sort of, get started then.

The Start in Fukuoka: More Than Just Ramen

Fukuoka is, of course, known for its tasty ramen, and very vibrant nightlife, too it’s almost, but you shouldn’t just only see it as a brief starting place. I, you know, got in a day early to check out some places. Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, that has this incredible history, you know, is very worth a visit. The city’s, actually, also packed with green spaces, too, that I hadn’t really expected. Ohori Park, that offers like a peaceful escape, it’s very beautiful, you know. It was nice to grab some street food and, basically, just watch the world wander by before having to get ready for an early start. So, do yourself a solid, really, and explore Fukuoka; it’s, in some respects, got loads, very, to give.

Yamaguchi: A Calm Stopover

The bus trip to Yamaguchi was, actually, rather pleasant. The seats were pretty comfy, and, really, I took the chance to watch some cool countryside going by. Yamaguchi, for me, very, was like a refreshing contrast from the larger towns. Rurikoji Temple is like a must-see, you know, and its, usually, lovely pagoda stands so peaceful. Take a bit of a wander down the streets. I found this cool little, you know, cafe that sold local sweets, and everyone I talked with was so nice. That said, very, don’t plan like to spend loads of days there; a single, actually, well-planned afternoon is enough, you know, to see all the key spots.

Arriving in Hiroshima: A Place of Reflection

Next was Hiroshima, that has this very strong pull on you when you turn up. Peace Memorial Park is, actually, someplace where things kinda hit home – you feel, too it’s almost, all the things that happened. That memorial museum is, sort of, well thought-out and, very, tells the tale of what went down. Now, it’s quite serious, naturally, but it’s, actually, something you kind of need to take in so you can see just how powerful that part of Japan’s history has, rather, been. After that, to lighten the mood, how about going over to see Hiroshima Castle or trying that okonomiyaki which, is so different from the kind that’s in Osaka? And, in that case, you will not go wrong.

The Bus Itself: Comfort and Views

Bus rides in Japan, actually, are nothing like those crazy Greyhound trips a little like your, maybe, used to! Usually, these busses have seats that lay back very far, footrests, plus clean loos. It’s worth taking your charger so that, actually, you can use your device and have something on while the scenery goes past. Plus, you know, book your seats in advance, so you can choose just where you’re sitting – top tip is very, that views tend, mostly, to be best up near the front, very.
