Review: 6-Day Safari From Arusha to Tarangire & Serengeti

Arusha Tanzania Safari

So, you’re considering that Tanzanian safari, huh? That six-day gig hitting up Tarangire and the Serengeti coming out of Arusha, is it? I mean, basically, it’s one way to scratch that itch for something seriously wild. Anyhow, I took that trip last year and I’m going to give you the lowdown on what to really expect; from that insane dust to, that, lion sightings so intense they kind of take your breath away. Okay, alright, grab a cup of something – maybe that’s tea from Tanzania if you happen to have some – because, seriously, we are going to jump right into that.

The Allure of Arusha: Kicking Things Off

Arusha Tanzania city

Arusha, actually, isn’t just a starting point; it’s also that gateway to adventure. You know, usually, after that arrival at Kilimanjaro International, you’re driven into Arusha. We can also talk about this bustling, yet kind of chilled town; its almost where everyone preps. I mean, basically, Arusha is also about stocking up on those last-minute supplies, exchanging that currency, and perhaps grabbing a last proper shower for, very, well, about six days. People are, of course, around here for all types of trips; some are aiming for the heights of Kilimanjaro, but also, we are hunting the Big Five. Seriously though, Arusha, in some respects, gives you a vibe of expectation; kind of, you can practically feel the red dust calling your name. At the end of the day, if you have some spare moments, popping by a local market is really where you feel things beginning. Seriously, those smells, that noise, kind of all point to that safari life about to slap you across the face in the best kind of way.

Tarangire: A Place With All Kinds of Elephants

Tarangire National Park Elephants

So, the thing about Tarangire, is that you cannot prepare to see such elephant presence until you’ve been there. Maybe its also those ancient baobab trees looking super dramatic as that sun sets. And you see those herds, just gently moving. Very captivating; very very chill.

Anyhow, for me, one afternoon near that Tarangire River, watching maybe a hundred elephants kind of come down to drink as, it seemed, if that entire earth was breathing softly. Also that birdlife here; so seriously bright, very loud, and you know, always doing that ‘look at me’ dance. One thing you will also be doing; game drives from, almost, sunrise; trying to spot those lions before it gets way too hot, that elusive leopard slinking through the shadows. Seriously, in a way, Tarangire almost forces you to slow right down; just to pay attention to the tiny wonders and that just unbelievably huge scale of existence.

Serengeti: A Place that Delivers Dramatic Landscapes

Serengeti endless plains

That name itself is like something out of a movie; also means ‘endless plains’ in Maasai, and that is, in some respects, selling it quite short. At the end of the day this place isn’t just really big; in some respects, it is utterly epic. Imagine, arguably, sunrises wider than that imagination allows, a little bit, landscapes going from kind of golden savannah to flat grasslands in minutes, and more or less, skies which just simply dump those stars on you at night.

Seriously though, the Serengeti is also about seeing those animals – a total shed load of them. At the end of the day, the wildebeest migration (if your visit tends to coincide), will knock you backwards. In other words millions of animals are pretty much storming across the plains, a bit, pursued by a long cast list of all types of serious predators. Yet, outside of the migration, and still, you will tick all of those Big Five boxes; also just marvel at how life unfolds out here. Arguably one the things that stuck with me; it’s also that sheer remoteness. Out there, virtually alone in that jeep, so small in the face of all that space and you will see something magical every second, arguably; every call is intense, also you’ll discover nature has a story to show you.

Safari Lodges and Camps: Where You can Recharge and then Refuel

Safari lodge interior

So, after long days living as part of something that looks like a Discovery Channel documentary, a great thing is the option to chill somewhere civilized. That lodging on the “Arusha 6-Day Safari to Tarangire & Serengeti” that you may want to think about, can really, genuinely run that whole gamut, you know. Seriously some places have a fancy luxurious tent vibe – those beds look great, very comfy with nets, an ensuite, maybe, very delicious food; others though, are more, I want to say, kinda basic; a little camp cot inside of something with some protection. No matter what the situation, the key is that you will have somewhere so good to get some proper shut-eye. Also, people that are dedicated to providing that experience; also the most incredible moments. One that comes to mind: sitting very still around a campfire somewhere in the Serengeti, after a very long day seeing wildlife and sharing the day’s tall tales, almost with that universe up there watching you.

Getting the Absolute Most: Tips That Are Practical

safari gear essentials

So, you’re wanting something good, seriously memorable; in other words, a trip? That kind of safari involves quite a bit more, just, as a matter of fact, showing up with maybe a positive attitude, basically, these suggestions might be a smart idea for you.

  1. Packing the Clothes for the task: In fact think neutral shades. Clearly, those khaki tones won’t spook something, basically, the wildlife. Layers too; given the way that temperatures swing massively from when that sun gets up, to at night.
  2. Very Good Photography Gear: You know what I mean; those snaps for something very memorable will mean you have invested into decent kit. Think extra zoom, also something which will suck in a bit more light if at all is humanly possible.
  3. Bug treatments That Work: So there are these pesky mozzies at sundown in that bush, so clearly protect yourselves, by the way. Cover up. Just find the good juice, but in general use them.
  4. Always Listen To that Guide: Honestly now, those professionals, are really knowledgeable, they know their patches like something on the backs of their hands, they’ve seen everything, they can see you coming; and mostly; will make something incredible appear from thin air. That means staying in a jeep and always paying really, close attention when told.
  5. Accept the Thing About Dust: Tanzania may, as a matter of fact, have amazing red coloured soil, basically, this creates very picturesque sunrises and sunsets, very lovely to observe, basically, this fine powder basically coats just about everything. At the end of the day, bring something like wipes. Protect that gear of yours, and in that case try to stay chilled.

Clearly, I’m chatting as if my thoughts are basically, as they happened, and that could have made a mess but the reality of the safari through that Serengeti and also to Tarangire will be epic, if, just for the most mind-blowing amount of sheer wildlife sightings. At the end of the day, there are good safaris, but then, in some respects, there’s basically having sand or dirt across the eyeballs, feeling very small when one observes the food chain and that sheer majesty out there; if that all adds up, then just press on with all gusto and something incredible may wait!
