Arriving at the tour starting point, I was, first, greeted by the sight of these, really, quite chunky electric fat bikes. Now, I will say that my initial thought was, “Are you sure this is how I should see the sights?”, but they, arguably, did look, quite, comfortable, at the same time. Our guide, a cheerful chap named Tomas, apparently, showed us the ropes, or, very, closely to it. He ran through the basics of operating the e-bikes, which, you know, was very useful for a cycling newbie like myself. Adjusting the seat, getting used to the pedal assist, and, finally, feeling, a bit, secure—it was, for instance, an efficient introduction. That first whirr of the electric motor? It felt a little like this was the beginning of a very interesting adventure.

Prague Hill Cycling

Prague isn’t flat, that, for sure, is something I quickly realized on foot during past visits. Those hills are no joke, and, arguably, can put a damper on your exploration plans. However, that’s where the electric fat bike earns its keep. So, with a little push of a button, the bike’s motor gives you an assist, making even the steeper inclines manageable, typically. It’s like having a secret superpower, actually. We sailed up to spots such as Petřín Hill without breaking a sweat, which, obviously, allowed us to really enjoy the great views, finally, instead of panting and trying to catch our breath. It’s almost like that electric assistance just completely transformed what could have been an exercise in endurance into a pleasurable sightseeing trip.

The climb is easier with the e-bike, of course, which, honestly, makes getting to the top less tiring and more exciting, nearly. Next was Prague Castle. Now, I’ve seen it from below numerous times, seemingly. Yet, cycling up there and looking out over the city? It provided a very different perspective, is that so? There were hidden corners that the average tourist may miss, and spots where the views were picture-perfect. We paused frequently, and it was as if Tomas just knew the very place to stop for the postcard-worthy opportunities, seemingly. The Old Town Square looked quite stunning from above, with its pastel buildings and bustling crowds. I almost got a sense of Prague’s story unfolding from that height, actually.

Unexpected Discoveries and Hidden Gems

What really impressed me about this tour was not only what you would usually see, but that, seemingly, it included lesser-known areas, too. That’s where having a local guide, Tomas, comes in incredibly handy. So, we steered down quiet cobblestone streets and discovered the peaceful beauty of Kampa Island, arguably. I didn’t really know of this tranquil spot right on the Vltava River before. Another stand-out was the graffiti wall at the John Lennon Wall, now. This spot pulses with a unique and artistic energy that I think many visitors might miss, yet it is beautiful and captivating, by the way. Those spontaneous stops, you see, are the moments that make a trip genuinely memorable. Those tiny detours, which are really unplanned, give a fresh appreciation for what this lovely city brings to the table, first.

The Electric Fat Bike: Comfort and Handling

Electric Fat Bike Comfort

Okay, let’s have a chat regarding the star of the show, is that it? The electric fat bike! With its big tires and comfortable seat, it, genuinely, handles Prague’s diverse terrain, as it were. Cobblestones? No issue! Tram tracks? Not a big deal! Hills? Bring ’em on! Now, I will say, at first I felt just a tiny bit clumsy; it might be that those chunky tires looked, very, intimidating, alright. Yet, it did not take much time at all before I really began to feel in control. The pedal assist system is intuitive, as well as just the right amount of power at any point, actually. Plus, those larger tires offer some pretty significant shock absorption, which turns every street into the smoothest sailing experience, in fact. The outcome is truly feeling safe as well as able to soak in all that Prague throws your way, in some respects.
