Phuket Kahung Beach Tour: Snorkeling and Water Sport Review
Right, if you’re thinking about jetting off to Phuket and spending a sunny day at Kahung Beach, then you probably need some info. Basically, I spent a day there not long ago, so I want to share what the experience is like, especially if you are hoping to do some snorkeling or water sports. So, consider this like your friendly guide filled with tips – and maybe some stuff I wish I’d known beforehand, at the end of the day. This way you know what you are going into.
Arriving at Paradise: Kahung Beach First Impressions
Alright, so first up: Kahung Beach, sometimes also called Coral Island, is this petite slice of paradise, very close to Phuket. The boat trip to get there is actually fairly quick, maybe around 15-20 minutes from Chalong Pier, you see. So that already gets things off to a flyer. On approach, the color of the water is striking – that really gleaming turquoise, as they say. The sand, you see, is nice and white, though also somewhat coarse compared to, like, super fine powder beaches. Anyway, the overall vibe is relaxed and yeah, pretty picturesque actually.
Also, when I visited, there were some other folks around, as you’d imagine, yet it didn’t feel overwhelmingly crowded, it must be said. This gives a relaxed atmosphere to things. There are also sun loungers that you can hire, and there’s no shortage of spots to just drop your towel if that’s more your thing, too. Also, a point to keep in mind; it is important that you get there relatively early, maybe? Just to grab yourself a decent place and beat any midday rushes, you know.
Snorkeling at Kahung Beach: What to Expect
Ok, now about getting wet and looking at marine life! Basically, snorkeling at Kahung Beach is, more or less, enjoyable for beginners. Also, the water is super clear, in a way, especially nearer the rocks. Like your visibility, usually, tends to be reasonably good. You’ll spot quite a lot of colorful fishies, maybe? Although, they do tend to be of the smaller variety – so don’t get your hopes up to see really big showstopper sort of sea creatures and so on, at the end of the day.
Basically, you can rent your equipment directly on the beach. Although, I think you should think about bringing your own gear if you have some, like your own mask at least. Also, I sort of find that it just gives a better fit, and you know that it is hygienic and so forth, in some respects. Plus, just a heads-up; do check out your equipment before wandering off to get to the water. Just to check it is sound, and that, maybe. Regarding where to go, I’d suggest snorkeling closer to the rocky parts of the shore. This seems to be where you see the most sea life, sort of.
Water Sports Galore: Activities and Thrills
Basically, for those who love a good splash and giggle, Kahung Beach has enough options, too. Like you can choose from loads of fun activities; so you have jet skis, banana boats, parasailing, and also canoeing, you see. Arguably, jet skis are rather fun, as well as fast, alright. Just brace yourself, or more or less you might expect a fairly bumpy ride when you zoom over the waves, maybe?
So, that banana boat looks great, just remember that they are basically a hilarious group activity, usually ending with everyone splashing into the sea. Parasailing – it is also rather thrilling to take in that great panoramic view while gliding, you know, so high. If that sounds good to you anyway. Canoeing is just as relaxing; it’s just that you are drifting around the calmer areas of the bay in a way, so to check out the coast a little.
A tip I can give, it might be, haggle over your prices! Often, they are prepared to offer you a deal – in fact if they aren’t then try going to another stall, very. I found it quite amusing just to see by how much they would drop the cost of things! Plus, do make sure to go with established water sports operators only. You should look for well-maintained gear and that the operators have a safety-conscious approach, it is advisable, maybe? So that it’s fun times only, so to speak.
Food and Relaxation: Beachside Amenities
Well, all this splashing and activity might be making you hungry. The good news is, it is important that you have a few places to eat there directly. So expect the usual sorts of grub such as Pad Thai and other dishes that are super popular like green curry dishes, basically. There are also drinks available so that you remain watered. Food-wise, well, let’s just say, the meals are reasonably convenient and also filling.
At Kahung Beach, anyway, there’s sun loungers aplenty, in some respects, for a relaxed afternoon. You can actually find somewhere shaded under the trees, to take a little rest, if you like. So, you can actually hide from all that beaming sunshine. In general the amenities do tend to be on the simple side; just that there are some restrooms and also shower facilities which do what they must do.
Kahung Beach Trip: Some Pointers and Things to Note
Right then, a few must-know things; make sure to be ready with cash! Usually, some of the vendors, maybe all of them, do not accept cards. So you really do need to bring enough Baht in order to pay. Actually, just like I was saying, bargaining might also lower the prices; give it a bash anyway! Plus, you should slather on lots of sun cream. In Phuket, I feel as though the sun does a fairly decent job of frying you if you aren’t careful. Sunstroke is an experience to avoid!
If you care about being all environmental and everything (I hope you do, in a way) be kind; keep all your rubbish with you. Usually, the island gets kept somewhat clean, but lots of tiny little actions always helps maintain places that are kept pretty. Actually, on a similar point – avoid contacting that sea life. Try just viewing stuff from a little distance. We should let nature be without affecting things too much, alright?
For all you people keen to post photos of things to all your contacts on socials, the phone signal is a bit ‘hit or miss’ too it’s almost. Still, maybe you won’t want your phone too much? Try relaxing in real life, perhaps?
Overall: Is Kahung Beach Worth a Visit?
I suppose that you could ask yourself whether you are likely to love Kahung Beach, maybe? To that, well, Kahung is a thumbs up if you just adore a somewhat quick beach day trip that offers both some snorkeling, relaxing, so that and maybe the bit of water sport action. Anyway, you might want to have all your super wild expectations managed, just because it might get quite busy. You see, the snorkeling could be a little limited, you know.
Basically, if what you would like to do is chill someplace pretty that is convenient, also has the options that can keep folks of any age rather entertained; go for it. As a matter of fact, a lot of the beach feels quite welcoming – plus there are clear seas. But, should you wish for much better marine exploration or remote quiet beaches? You know, if that’s for you? Kahung just might not make your shortlist in that case. Have a think anyway. All the same, this place does have plenty to shout about, actually.
