Phuket James Bond Island Sunset Tour: An Honest Review

So, you’re looking into the Phuket James Bond Island Canoeing Sunset Yacht Dinner tour, too it’s quite the title, right? As a matter of fact, tons of tours go to James Bond Island, also known as Khao Phing Kan, in Phang Nga Bay. Very, very few, though, include all the bells and whistles like canoeing through caves, watching the sun dip below the horizon from a fancy yacht, and chowing down on a meal as you sail. Anyway, I recently gave this particular outing a try, and here’s the lowdown, so you can decide if it’s really worth your hard-earned vacation money.

First Impressions: Setting Sail on Phang Nga Bay

Phang Nga Bay Sunset

Getting picked up from my hotel was quite painless. I will say, though, the van was running fashionably late, which, as I was saying, is almost a travel norm. We eventually made it to the marina where the yacht was waiting. Now, I will mention, first impressions really do count, and this boat was definitely impressive. I mean, like your standard smaller cruise ship, I felt a bit excited just looking at it! Anyway, the staff greeted us with these incredibly friendly smiles and a welcome drink; that’s always a great start, it is that first moment when I really felt like my vacation had officially begun, or something. After a short briefing, we set off into the open waters of Phang Nga Bay.

The views right from the get-go are rather spectacular. Phang Nga Bay is very well known for its like your dramatic limestone karsts jutting out of the sea, very much like something from another world. It’s like some seriously prime photo fodder around here! As we cruised, I kicked back on the deck, a little, enjoying the sea breeze. Clearly, there was music playing, and a very good atmosphere overall. We made our way to the very first activity of the afternoon: canoeing.

Canoeing Through Secret Lagoons

Phuket Canoeing Tour

So, the canoeing bit of the trip? Yeah, that was an absolute highlight. It’s not, as a matter of fact, your regular paddle-yourself affair; there were trained guides who did all the hard work for us. As a matter of fact, they really did a remarkable job getting us through some super narrow passages and into hidden lagoons inside the islands.

Like you’d glide silently, you know, through these caves, the only sounds being the gentle lapping of water and the occasional chirping of birds, alright? The stalactites hanging from the ceilings gave off this very otherworldly feel; and then the lagoons themselves! Honestly, they were really stunning, completely enclosed by towering cliffs. So, too it’s almost like stepping into a secret garden that nobody else knows about, which is always a thrill. It was all extremely magical, alright, a bit surreal too. So, a fair word of advice, make sure you’ve got your camera ready to capture the wonder!

James Bond Island: A Close Encounter

James Bond Island close up

Clearly, no James Bond Island tour is actually complete without, yes, visiting the star of the show itself! Like your other tours, our yacht pulled up just a little ways from the island, so you can have plenty of opportunities to snap a ton of pictures. You know, I think it’s extremely interesting to see this peculiar rock formation up close – To be honest it’s a whole other level when you’ve been dreaming of it in picture. But, to be clear, the island does attract huge crowds, I mean really huge crowds, very much like an ant farm. So, in fact, brace yourself for a lot of jostling to secure that perfect snapshot. The tour gives you a good bit of free time here. Some folks, myself included, mostly just wandered around, like you, absorbing the view; others did their best to get right in and purchase some souvenirs. Whatever floats your boat, to be honest. Just like your average tourist trap location! Anyway, I will say, having seen so many photos beforehand, finally seeing it in person? Still pretty darn striking.

Sunset Views and a Delightful Dinner

Yacht Dinner Sunset

Now, this bit is when things really get, like, truly special. As the day basically started to wind down, we climbed back on the yacht and set off a little, towards a rather prime sunset viewing spot. As I was saying, that’s really when the atmosphere goes from pretty darn good to like outstanding. You know, they actually timed it very nicely. With this gentle sea breeze, the vibrant colors streaking across the sky – clearly, it was something out of a movie. Like your camera becomes your very best friend at this moment, alright?

A little later, dinner was finally served, I mean a pretty decent spread of Thai food, that kind of stuff. Seriously, the food was delicious and I liked it quite a lot, so I made the most of the opportunity to tuck right in. Eating a scrumptious dinner while this dazzling sunset turns into a star-filled sky? I want to tell you, so that’s really an experience you’re going to remember. Actually, I felt rather pampered!

What Could be Better?

Tourist Crowd Phuket

As a matter of fact, no tour is really truly perfect, or something, right? As I said, the crowds at James Bond Island? So, very huge. Seriously, It’s kind of something the tour can’t do a whole lot about, but anyway, still brace yourself, as I was saying. The canoeing part, even though extremely cool, seemed, in a way, like a slightly short, or something. Like I probably could have canoed for, like, hours more! So, if you’re hoping to spend your day paddling, in that case, this tour isn’t actually designed for that. To be clear, the free time given to each spot felt rushed, I mean the photos don’t take themselves.
