Walking inside the cave it did unveil what felt like massive chambers filled with stalactites and stalagmites, lit up to accentuate their shapes. The cave system is surprisingly big. Walking via each of the chambers generally gave you new viewpoints and photo opportunities. Getting past hordes of tourists also testing endurance! It did tend to get crowded inside, particularly during peak season, it can definitely influence the overall experience.

Kayaking or Bamboo Boat Rowing

Kayaking it’s just an additional favored activity, providing up close views of Halong Bay’s natural formations. Many cruisers can paddle around pretty calm waters, gliding through tunnels and visiting little hidden lagoons. This seemed great for people feeling a little more adventurous and eager to discover more quiet spots.

Those less inclined to kayak could generally choose to ride a bamboo boat rowed by local people. This gave a chilled out, relaxed way to soak in the scenery without exerting too much energy. Either activity did offer something completely different. Yet still the same stunning, photographic moments.

All told, the Pamela Cruise appeared to be a good pick if sticking to a sensible travel budget.

I would be remiss to say it isn’t impacted by time on the transport to Halong Bay and waiting to move between locations, yet even on a short day trip there seems to be enough things planned to be worthwhile and memorable.

What Could be Improved?

There may be parts of the Pamela Cruise Halong Bay day trip that could be bettered, by me, but not necessarily anyone else. Reducing crowding during cave visits it’s probably one clear plus point. Managing tour groups, at least staggering them at different times, arguably help reduce the congestion people experienced during our trip.

A better experience may be delivered in food terms by upping food quality. Whilst not awful, there’s possibly room to offer an awesome selection of meals with something distinctive locally.

In truth, I believe one area most operators probably have similar problems, that comes down to traffic at certain destinations at certain times, with the limited control anyone realistically has.
