Mnemba Island & Baraka Aquarium: Honest Review

Mnemba Island & Baraka Aquarium: Honest Review

Zanzibar, it is almost like this gem in the Indian Ocean, so offers that combination of pristine beaches and that vivid cultural experience. A trip there isn’t quite complete without experiencing what Mnemba Island and Baraka Aquarium can give you, you know? Mnemba Island, particularly, this private atoll just a little off Zanzibar, is really that magnet for snorkelers and divers, and Baraka Aquarium is just a wonderful place to actually interact with sea turtles, almost. So, my experience? Actually quite unforgettable, you know?

That Allure of Mnemba Island

Snorkeling in Mnemba Island

Mnemba Island, basically it is surrounded by a circular reef, it’s almost like a haven for those of us you know, really keen on underwater exploration, really. The boat trip to Mnemba is that journey in itself, honestly, it’s where that clear turquoise water kind of meets that vast African sky, almost. Arriving there? It’s actually stepping into a picture postcard, very much so, like you wouldn’t believe, right?

Snorkeling around Mnemba, arguably it is something else, is that you are swimming in an aquarium, just, where fish come in those wild colors are, honestly darting around just a bit, the coral formations really are things of wonder and actually the clarity of water is really something, just really makes for excellent visibility, just, so I thought anyway. Keep an eye out for dolphins too it’s almost, they’re very playful and often join you for that quick swim, which, very, actually is something!

Diving at Mnemba Atoll. So for divers, that is somewhere a bit deeper too it’s almost, so Mnemba offers like these exciting opportunities too it’s almost. Spots like Wattabomi, which have become very known and that Big Wall really provide for exciting explorations and experiences for these really expert people or those with a good bit more experience than I do, just a little. Keep an eye out too it’s almost, for nudibranchs and ribbon eels too it’s almost, they add some sort of color to everything, don’t they? And always, keep that dive operator or diving instructor actually quite in check and that they kind of hold themselves at a gold standard.

Encountering Sea Turtles at Baraka Aquarium

Baraka Aquarium Turtles

From that kind of openness of Mnemba, I then went just to that Baraka Aquarium and, honestly, the vibe is quite different, it really is. Just located in that small village of Nungwi, so the aquarium – more like a natural pond, isn’t it? – you know it is where injured sea turtles can recover before getting put back out into the ocean, or somewhere where young turtles grow a bit bigger. What is a visit like? It’s like a really fulfilling and actually educational thing that they do there, right?

When you arrive at Baraka Aquarium, just, you are invited actually to get into water, a little bit. You can just feed them by hand, or touch these great animals too it’s almost, so this experience offers a more close-up kind of thing, more than that of seeing them in the ocean, like your. So that it may sound extremely simple or a bit nothing-y, it does just bring forward the need to just do what you can for conservation and treat those animals, particularly the marine life with respect and that those efforts they’re giving back in so many ways and make everything work.

As for reaching that Baraka Aquarium is that you just want a quick taxi-drive, you know? It is right from Nungwi actually to that central place really, I would just grab myself a taxi or Dala-Dala and know that this is usually affordable and it’s an interesting experience too it’s almost, and it’s just seeing people get on with that everyday life actually to learn about what the true feel for a country is really, so be brave.
