It’s almost a real chance to go at your own speed, just taking in all the things that you would definitely never see if you just stuck to the resorts and that. Here’s like my rundown of what it’s really like, is that alright, including the bits you’ll probably love and maybe the bits that, to be fair, could be a bit better. Like your proper Mauritius adventure, anyway.

What to Expect from Your Private South Tour

Mauritius tour guide

Okay, the first thing to like get your head around is that this isn’t just some generic bus tour where you’re herded around with loads of other people, see? That is that, instead, you have your own personal guide and driver for the day, you see. Basically. This pretty much gives you like total flexibility – you want to spend more time at a certain spot? No worries, you can just tell your guide. And you want to skip something else? Absolutely no dramas. That level of just chilling out and going at your own pace is, like, brilliant, right?

So, the route that we took, or rather, the journey that was proposed to us, usually includes loads of those standout locations, it usually does, in the south. Picture this: you’re seeing things like the Trou aux Cerfs volcano crater – don’t worry, it’s not active – and you’re looking at all these plants growing in it. I mean, just so scenic, right? There is that too. Then there’s the Grand Bassin, so too it’s almost like this sacred lake for Hindus that is super spiritual. I’m sure you’ll probably enjoy that, you see. And the Black River Gorges National Park? Absolutely packed with views that’ll give you a serious wow feeling, a little. Waterfalls, forest and loads of like animals kicking about. This southern area has, you see, a load of eye candy in it, certainly does.

The Guide Makes all the Difference

knowledgeable tour guide

Here’s the real ace in the deck though: the guide. You know, what they know and like how they share stuff, it almost brings everything to life. That’s pretty awesome. They aren’t only just pointing out stuff; the guides generally, like, tell you the stories and background behind the tourist spots. It’s a bit of that too. Like when we were checking out Grand Bassin, the guide, he, like, explained loads about the religious history. To be honest. It sort of helped me see it all in, like, a new way, if you know what I mean? This personal contact you get makes all the difference. As a matter of fact, it will take the day from just nice sightseeing into a proper learning adventure. Is that right?.

Yet, remember that because it’s like your own thing. This is, after all, your own party. I mean, speak up, actually, if you have particular things that tickle your fancy. Maybe you’re seriously interested in the local plant life, that you are. Well, the guides can definitely tune things to what makes you personally bounce out of bed in the morning. Very important. Basically.

Lunch and Local Flavors

Mauritius food

Alright, lunchtime could easily be a star moment if you are up for grub and bits. More or less, like, they often take you somewhere properly local instead of those, you know, usual spots they drive all tourists to. The thing is that there’s this genuine Mauritian restaurant with all these smells and tastes that you probably didn’t even know was really a thing. Like your taste buds are just gonna start tangoing all of their own accord, right? Now, for me, scoffing down some proper Creole seafood right near the sea was, seriously, like one of the high points. Alright. But like always make absolutely certain you let them know about any nibble allergies or anything. The idea is you have a feast, alright, and, after all, you don’t want to be feeling queasy as you are wanting to explore. To be honest.

Too it’s almost a shame if you’re just going to pass over a proper food experience. Basically, it would be an own goal. A little. I reckon asking your guide for their top place is like one of the greatest bits of guidance that anyone could suggest to you, just so you get like the true taste of the area that you are cruising round.

Things That You Might Want to Think About

tourist checklist

So, there are things that you may need to chew over, for sure. Like, if it’s pouring out, obviously some parts of the trip become a little less fun, they definitely do. Particularly if you are looking forward to being able to take those lovely stunning shots or hike anywhere. I mean, that could prove annoying. If you’re the sort to get grumpy about that. Then again, actually, that’s when having a properly cracking guide makes so much of a difference, that is so true, you see. Because they have often got some tricks up their sleeves and bits that can, perhaps, save the day from heading south. I mean, like switching stuff about, spending more time checking out stuff inside or finding alternative, y’know, interesting touristy bits, more or less.

Now, if the prices are something that might wind you up, then, basically, sort your homework well before booking up. Basically. Actually check precisely what’s folded into that total charge and what isn’t. Like do the entrance tickets come included or, basically, is lunchtime on your bill? Actually, you are, of course, paying extra for a completely personal sort of thing. This is an option and not just, you see, an off the peg deal. Although, at the end of the day, having all the flexibility and just like that personal guidance, it tends to feel like dosh smartly handed over. Actually. I mean, this is only to people that see and agree with the value on the offer, isn’t it?

Was it Worth It? Absolutely!

happy tourist

Alright, so would I, like, tip this sort of jolly? Fair to say, yep, with bells on! The Mauritius private south day tour with your own driver and guide ticks all the boxes if, like, seeing more without loads of bus-loads of folks cramping you is a huge must for you. You get loads of freedom, proper background information and often some surprising touristy bits that you’d simply sail straight past. Basically.

So, if you just want a really memorable way of getting the measure of the south bit of Mauritius, do, go for it, okay. Just make absolutely certain you arrive armed up with a decent camera, that, to be honest, insatiable desire to learn and like perhaps some excellent footwear to cater for the ground under you. Ready for, like, memories that will linger a bit? Basically, the southern area of Mauritius may become just one of your fav tourist locations. Definitely. And if it doesn’t float your boat? At the end of the day you might just like sticking near to that poolside. After all. That’s fine too. A little.

You will, obviously, want to get clued up before jumping in though, to ensure it does just that – floats your boat:

  • Freedom Rocks: Forget those big bus tours. You are calling all the shots. Seriously.
  • Guide is King: Really good local insight and backstories – better than any travel book, or travel blog, right.
  • Chow Down Local: Chuck those bog-standard restaurants. Your taste buds should have an eye popping blast on this trip, they might as well!
  • Dodge the Showers: Bad rain? It could totally alter things. Still, a top notch guide can help sort you out. In some respects, or it will be a bad adventure!
  • Know the Notes: Get all your sums done on exactly what you are getting for what you hand over. Alright.

Anyway, just so you get your Mauritius southern adventure sorted and like all your own, if that’s the case! Happy exploring!
