Mango’s Larcomar Restaurant Lunch: A Detailed Review

When folks talk about visiting Lima, Peru, Larcomar Shopping Center, that’s perched right on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, always seems to pops up. Now, inside this swanky complex, there’s Mango’s Restaurant, pretty well known for its amazing views and a menu, that they say, highlights tasty Peruvian eats. So, I thought I’d give their lunch menu a shot and share my experience.

First Impressions and the View

Pacific Ocean view restaurant

Stepping into Mango’s, the first thing you can’t really miss is the view. The restaurant juts out, kind of, offering, what I think are, totally amazing panoramic views of the Pacific. You pretty much feel like you’re floating above the water, which is kind of nice. The vibe is fairly relaxed, and that makes it pretty inviting for a relaxed lunch. I thought the decor was, you know, adequate, leaning a little bit more casual than super fancy, very perfect for a daytime meal.

Digging into the Menu: What to Expect

Peruvian lunch menu

The lunch menu features Peruvian classics, but also with sort of an attempt to include international dishes. Think ceviche, lomo saltado, and causa, all those things, yet you will see burgers and pasta there, too. Now, it seems like they want to appeal, apparently, to every type of traveler. Pricing is probably a bit above average for Lima, very reflecting the prime location within Larcomar.

Starters: Ceviche Time

Ceviche dish

Of course, I just had to start with ceviche, so I went for the “Ceviche Clásico.” The fish, corvina if I remember correctly, looked really fresh, and the leche de tigre, a citrus marinade, had just the right amount of zip. It was, really, flavorful without being overly acidic, and you could, I think, tell that the ingredients were top-notch. Yet, I did find that it could have used maybe just a tiny bit more rocoto pepper for an extra kick.

Main Course: Lomo Saltado Showdown

Lomo Saltado

For my main course, naturally I chose Lomo Saltado, probably one of Peru’s most famed dishes. This version came with tender strips of beef, stir-fried with onions, tomatoes, and a soy-based sauce, served over a bed of fluffy rice and crispy fries. While, in a way, the beef was cooked perfectly, and pretty flavorful, the overall dish seemed just a tad too salty. Still, the presentation was very nice, and the portion was, to be honest, quite generous.

Something Sweet: Dessert and Coffee

Peruvian dessert

To finish things off, I, in fact, decided to try the “Suspiro Limeño,” that, is a traditional Peruvian dessert made with dulce de leche, meringue, and a touch of port wine. This version was, just so smooth and creamy, not to mention perfectly sweet, although without being cloying. Very good. Coupled with a strong Peruvian coffee, it was, really, a satisfying end to the meal.

Service Quality

Restaurant service

The service at Mango’s seemed pretty efficient, also quite attentive. Our server seemed, clearly, knowledgeable about the menu and was able to answer all of our questions with, I thought, ease. Food came out, it seems, in a timely manner, and all staff were, really, friendly, also very polite. Even though, the restaurant was quite busy, we never felt, in fact, neglected.

Ambiance and Clientele

Restaurant ambiance

The ambiance at Mango’s is, to be honest, very casual but still pretty refined. You might find, apparently, tourists and locals alike enjoying a meal with that ocean view. It’s probably suited, really, for couples, families, and solo diners, too. So, the background music was low-key, and it never really interfered with conversation, creating what I thought, anyway, was a pretty pleasant environment.

Value for Money

Restaurant value for money

Now, value for money at Mango’s is, arguably, where things get, like, a bit tricky. Prices are, in a way, higher than your average Lima restaurant, mainly because of the location, really. So, you’re paying for the view, and I get that, anyway. I would, however, say that the quality of ingredients is good, and portion sizes are, in fact, generous, pretty justifying the cost to some extent. But still, if you’re on a tight budget, it might be, I think, worth considering other options.

Accessibility

Larcomar accessibility

Being in Larcomar, Mango’s is really accessible. Larcomar, in fact, has elevators and ramps making it suitable, of course, for people with mobility issues. Also, there’s parking available in the mall, that, of course, is convenient if you’re driving.
