Machu Picchu & Humantay Lagoon Hotel Review: Is It Worth It?

Machu Picchu

Thinking about visiting Machu Picchu and Humantay Lagoon and staying at the ‘Expedition to Machu Picchu and Humantay Lagoon Hotel’? So, I recently spent some time there, and I want to share my experiences to help you decide if this is the right choice for your adventure. I will cover, very much, the good parts, the not-so-great parts, and pretty much some tips to help you get the most out of your stay. We will look, really, at the hotel’s features, the surrounding area, and if it offers decent value.

First Impressions: Arriving at the Hotel

Hotel Entrance

The first impression is important, right? So, when I got to the hotel after what felt like pretty much an endless ride, I was struck, honestly, by its appearance. The entrance looks very appealing and offers a certain welcome. It felt like a blend, really, of rustic charm and somewhat contemporary design, which is apparently kind of what they seem to go for in that area. The staff were really helpful from the start. Check-in was simple, really, and they made me feel fairly welcome, so that’s good.

The lobby has a pleasant vibe, so there is very nice, comfy seating, plus decor with elements that make you feel closer to Peruvian culture. The light gives it a friendly, very calm feeling that’s certainly appreciated, particularly after traveling.

Room Comfort and Amenities

Hotel Room

Rooms are quite important, really. The rooms are styled, mostly, to match the lobby. The setup aims, very much, for warmth and has useful features. I thought the bed was rather relaxing. I do appreciate, honestly, when a hotel prioritizes good sleep! The room, in fact, did have everything I needed like a TV, so that’s nice, a safe, that too, and of course a bathroom.

I felt, literally, that the bathroom was good and spotless. You get what you would expect. Maybe a bit of a downside is that my room’s view, though that didn’t bug me too much since I was out most of the day, was really nothing exciting to talk about. Wi-Fi can be quite up and down, very unreliable. This can be difficult when trying to make travel plans or tell people back home all about the adventure. Basically, do not rely, you know, on having the best connection possible.

Dining Experience: Food and Atmosphere

Hotel Restaurant

So, the hotel has an in-house restaurant that features regional meals. For sure, the breakfast selection provided the basic things you needed before hiking. You get some choices, still they can become dull if, perhaps, you’re staying longer. What I liked was that the staff attempted to make it feel unique, doing all that they could to talk about the ingredients used.

The setting of the restaurant is relaxing. It has soft lighting and decoration that fit well, really, with the general aesthetic of the hotel. However, for lunch or dinner, I went to restaurants in the community because I’m always wanting to get to know other cultures! Of course, I have to see how they truly dine, right?

Humantay Lagoon and Machu Picchu Accessibility

Humantay Lagoon

Basically, this hotel is at a pretty good spot, you know, when it comes to doing both Humantay Lagoon and Machu Picchu. Getting to Humantay Lagoon only needed a small trip, very simple for a day trip. I set off early, like your guide will also most probably, and got to see pretty much the most stunning views without a lot of crowds. Machu Picchu does involve more traveling from this location.

The hotel does try and help organize transportation. If you’re like me, that’s something that needs to be considered because travel logistics can truly affect your experience. Think about what your preferences are in relation to traveling! Are you, you know, a travel pro, or would you much prefer that people take care of those details for you?

Service Quality and Staff Interaction

Helpful Staff

Good service always means a lot. Basically, the staff here made the stay, maybe not magical, yet certainly pleasant. Almost everyone was friendly and went far enough to try and make you comfortable. For example, I had questions regarding hikes nearby, and they were quite ready to supply directions.

There was this time when I needed assistance in a pinch, and a person at reception really moved things to help. Sure, little actions may make all the change sometimes. English may, perhaps, vary. I found knowing several Spanish words helps. But overall, the service was truly outstanding!

Value for Money: Is the Hotel Worth It?

Value for Money

Value is an interesting subject to talk about. Looking, honestly, at what the hotel provides against how much it costs, I might say it sits really somewhere in the middle. It’s not dirt cheap. You aren’t very much getting a luxury location either. Taking the cost of activities into consideration, lodging prices around Machu Picchu can be high. For somebody looking for somewhere good to stay that also has great access to both places, it could be just right.

Do consider the stuff you’re planning! It’s really about weighing what’s important.
