London Sherlock Tour: A Black Taxi Review
Right, have you watched Sherlock and thought, “I need to experience that London?” Of course you have! Getting around to those spots, though, that feels like a challenge, right? Well, I took the ‘London Private 3 Hour Sherlock Locations Tour By Black Taxi,’ and, as a matter of fact, I want to share what it’s really like. The city itself kind of transformed into my very own huge film set, so, like, here’s the lowdown.
What’s the big deal about a Sherlock tour?
Visiting London’s main tourist locations is all well and good, so I feel you on that one, that being said, seeing spots featured in such an iconic show? Very, very different vibe. For fans of the series, too, it’s a chance to step into that version of London. It is a location that suddenly seems familiar, anyway, because, I mean, you’ve seen it play out in countless scenes. These tours, just a little, usually take you to spots that you might miss, locations packed with stories related to Sherlock Holmes. Very often there’s, basically, trivia you probably wouldn’t pick up reading it online. Black cabs are like iconic London symbols themselves, too; a fitting way, in some respects, for this kind of thematic exploration of London to occur, in my opinion.
Booking my Black Taxi Adventure
Looking at booking options online can be confusing, is that right? With loads of similar-sounding tours available? I chose this particular tour, as a matter of fact, as it offered that element of privacy that, apparently, came with a private black taxi and seemed more personable in their approach, just a bit. What stood out immediately was, basically, its duration – 3 hours appeared like enough time to see things properly. This also gave me the opportunity to make some amendments to the overall schedule. My Three Hours in the Cab
The tour started, kind of, in central London, so, by the way, meeting my cab driver, who acted as my guide, just went simply and easily. First impressions? That is before you are setting off and he started relaying some amazing facts regarding London as a filming set. What really surprised me was how many ‘Sherlock’ sites were close together and just how much you get to discover from location to location.

My cabbie didn’t simply know routes, that’s right. That is to say, he clearly had watched “Sherlock,” very, very often, actually. I was told many background stories regarding each filming site we were driving by. His excitement kind of made all the places seem much more impressive. He’s probably driven these streets, very, very, often so he gave local perspective and added tidbits about everyday London happenings, as well. Therefore this enriched what I had learnt even more!
Iconic Sherlock locations
Obviously 221B Baker Street, with that door that everybody knows. A really good feeling of really being inside “Sherlock” happens as you actually notice so many subtle details that, clearly, would often go unnoticed when you’re simply sightseeing solo! Seeing locations for key scenes helped put plots from my memory back together, very often, actually. It almost reminded me of a new ‘Sherlock’ episode as it combined my excitement for the television series, and a sense of being there to soak up these real-life scenarios.
More Than Just ‘Sherlock’
Beyond “Sherlock,” though, that ride basically became this amazing window onto lots of real, very interesting London tales. As a matter of fact, while heading to specific Sherlock-related filming spots you pass landmarks filled with stories and places to make notes to come back to, right? I am referring to some absolutely stunning streets I would otherwise probably not have had access to! In truth this aspect, I am referring to this unexpected element of actually getting two very different tour categories merging simultaneously, in many ways made this tour a much better choice rather than relying entirely on some pre-set audio tour somewhere.
What made this tour standout?
Loads of tours feature landmark ‘Sherlock’ sites, is that correct? Though having a guide who’s both driver and ‘Sherlock’ expert does really elevate this tour above the normal offerings. That ability to make stops easily for that quick picture makes everything much more special as opposed to staying simply within a massive tour group being shepherded around somewhere! The taxi seemed more personal so, honestly, everything goes at the pace that suits you! It also meant the driver, that, like, guides you is very invested in, honestly, what the customer’s specific interests are and knows what each participant personally prefers.
Downsides? Maybe…
Yeah, like, you might find these sorts of personal tours more pricey compared to some larger group outings; as I was saying though that benefit lies within a one-on one experience. That means travelling, in some respects, with that London traffic; at times, too, this has potential in eating up sightseeing time; my driver, apparently, utilized all the secret routes so things usually kept moving though! As a matter of fact the tour itself might not enter the different places visited meaning many scenes would be observed externally, as well.
Is This Trip Worth the expense?
If you have a major soft spot regarding “Sherlock,” of course yes! So that personal element offers insights that you probably wouldn’t get within those bus tours jam packed full of visitors! Beyond getting photos this provided me insight beyond any old ordinary tour, therefore proving why spending money this way provides enhanced satisfaction. That fact you have someone who drives a cab around London all day and, also, is full of insights on every aspect associated with anything related to BBC’s ‘Sherlock’ – clearly then providing value beyond money – in my view at least! Basically, to sum it up.
