Lima, Nazca Lines & Huacachina: A Review of the Oasis Day Trip

Okay, so picture this: You’re kicking back in Lima, right, and you’re thinking, “There’s gotta be more to Peru than just this spot.” And you’re correct. What if you could take to the skies over some seriously ancient mysteries and then tear across sand dunes all in a single day? But I will say, for some folks, that bit will be a drag yet seeing those gigantic drawings etched into the desert floor from above almost makes it worthwhile. Those geoglyphs, that kind of show animals, plants, and just straight-up geometric designs, those are impressive. Seriously impressive. As I was saying, you’re in a little Cessna, usually, so that it will get quite bumpy, naturally, depending a little bit on the weather, yet that feeling of soaring over this historical art installation? Priceless, literally, though you do pay for the trip so figuratively speaking of course.

Now, viewing those famous lines might, in some respects, come with a few hitches. A little heads-up, is that these tiny planes do have to bank hard to provide you a solid look at each figure, yet that may give you some motion sickness. Plus, is that the explanations about which figure is which might seem rushed so it’s a good idea to do a little bit of reading up on those things beforehand. Even though that being said, seeing those mysterious Nazca Lines is really something special and that alone made the entire thing so incredible, definitely. So if you are able to handle a small aircraft it’s almost an awesome experience.

Huacachina Oasis: A Desert Playground

Right after the flight is completed, that’s where the next segment begins, and so, off to Huacachina! Picture a very tiny oasis with this lagoon, hemmed in by enormous sand dunes—and so it’s pretty much straight out of a movie. But as I was saying, this portion is about adrenaline. And just how do we get the adrenaline? Sand buggying and sandboarding, and of course we do those things.

The dune buggy ride might be almost like a rollercoaster but it’s on sand. Now you are soaring up those dunes, pausing for like, the million-dollar views, then plummeting down, very down at times, yet with the wind ripping right by you the whole time, of course. The instructors can often be just a little bit wild with the driving but in a safe way and after a little while, when they decide it’s enough rollercoaster riding it’s almost time to sandboard. Lie belly-down on a wooden board and slide all down those sandy slopes is that that. Not even everybody would want to stand, mostly because wiping out in that sand happens anyway even when you really want to stay vertical. However even still the overall vibe is just simply wonderful, and as I was saying, getting sand just about everywhere seems a very small cost for a little desert fun.

Food and Logistics: What You Should Know

Now, a good thing to remember with a tour like this is that many things are jam-packed. That can be a benefit, but also a cause for some planning, naturally. The transfer back and forth from Lima is a big chunk of your day so do expect a lot of time just riding in a vehicle. Food can be a mixed thing. Maybe some trips include a sit-down meal that might be decent enough. But more often than not is that you might be grabbing very simple eats here and there. With that, you can certainly pack some snacks along just in case, actually. Very good footwear will, very likely, be a need since that you will be walking on the desert. Plus some sunscreen is necessary, clearly. Remember: It might be extremely sunny out there even if the climate generally is cool and nice.

Is It Truly Worth It? Considering the Value

Okay, so if it seems truly like your thing would be spending a full day traveling and being adventurous, it could very well be worthwhile. Seriously. So the chance just to see those historic Nazca Lines plus doing the heart-pounding sand activities? A fairly unique combo, of course. A handful of travelers love having those main experiences smooshed right into one day since it takes minimal vacation time, right. Yet, if perhaps that you prefer maybe more relaxed travel with, maybe, extra in-depth touring? That might be a bit too fast for you. As a matter of fact you must consider the travel timing needed to make the flights over the desert that is required.

The key things include being cool maybe with early starts plus just a little uncertainty that sometimes comes up when you are booking package trips and so keep in mind that weather will play a part in everything and delays certainly happen. The mix of cultural and fun experiences is fantastic though; if maybe you are tight for your time then that’s an intriguing shortcut right outside of Lima and with so many different adventures on offer who could say no? Really, bring just a light backpack loaded up with those essential things such as sunscreen, sunglasses, a cap, or some lip balm; desert environments actually beat up all that. And it is always important, for sure, to bring plenty of water along so that maybe you’re hydrating as much as you must.

Try to purchase things at the sites from local businesses whenever is possible; it’s a little way perhaps to add a bit to that local economy, you will not believe how much it assists their businesses.
