Koufonisi, Naxos, Schinousa, Iraklia: A Speedboat Day Trip Review

Have you ever considered hopping around some really incredible Greek Islands in a single day? Well, taking a speedboat trip from Naxos to Koufonisi, Schinousa, and Iraklia could just be what you’re after! I thought I’d share what it’s, in a way, like, and whether I think it is something that your should spend your precious time doing, you know?

What Makes These Islands Special?

Each of these little islands, you see, kind of has its own vibe, right? Like, Koufonisi is practically renowned for its totally stunning beaches and, I guess, almost unbelievably clear waters, so, too it’s somewhere people head to when they’re hoping to properly chill out. Then there is Schinousa, and, it’s arguably a bit more secluded, which is, like, perfect if you wish for avoid big crowds and properly explore charming, traditional villages. As for Iraklia, well, you could say that it has more or less retained a properly authentic, pretty untouched feel, with walking trails and a much more relaxed pace. So, they each offer something kinda unique, actually!

Booking Your Trip: What to Keep in Mind

First things first, is that, you wanna book with a seriously reputable tour operator, okay? Make certain that they have all the proper safety gear and that the boat is comfortable, you know? Do you want a trip where the seats are super cramped? Nope! It’s really also quite crucial that you sort of read reviews and ask around to see what other folks thought about their experiences. Then, check what is specifically included; for example, will that include lunch, or transportation to and from your hotel? Basically, there might well be additional costs which you weren’t banking on so check, see?

The Speedboat Experience

Being on a speedboat is, very much, pretty thrilling, admittedly! The sea breeze and the spray of the water as you zoom between islands arguably makes the trip super exciting. The beaches are mostly sandy, but some spots have pebbles so you will maybe like your water shoes (but not strictly necessarily, if that makes any sense). As I was saying, you definitely want to check out Pori Beach, which many people say, basically, is among the most beautiful beaches in the Cyclades. There could be tavernas just a little further inland where you can actually savor really scrummy Greek food, very much so!

Exploring Schinousa

Then we come to Schinousa! It is very much smaller and a bit more laid-back compared to Koufonisi. The island arguably has a more authentically Greek sort of feel, seemingly with traditional villages where time seems to slow down just a little bit. You will see local life carrying on much like it always has, maybe. A highlight may just be Mersini, which arguably is the island’s harbor, with seriously pretty waterfront cafes. Then, you could even try a relaxed wander into the countryside. What do you think?

The Allure of Iraklia

Okay, so Iraklia: imagine an island so secluded, you almost feel like, as a matter of fact, you have sort of stepped back in time, really. There is, clearly, still a distinct lack of major tourist spots, really making this an, in a way, absolute gem for folks hoping to experience a less busy, quieter side to the Greek Islands, okay? A little exploration around the little port is something that can reveal proper authentic Greek tavernas and is usually also where a walking trip is often started, you see.

Is It Worth the Money?

Spending hard-earned money for a day trip could, admittedly, feel like kind of a commitment, right? What I reckon is that you should consider what’s of paramount importance to you during a Greek trip. This choice can certainly allow you to experience what a handful of islands look like even though, literally, your visit will always just be brief.
