Kathmandu Nepal Trip Review: Is 5 Nights 6 Days Enough?

Dreaming of those misty mornings in Kathmandu, with prayer flags fluttering in the breeze and the scent of incense filling the air? So, I recently got back from a trip to Nepal, spending around five nights and six days specifically in and around the Kathmandu valley, and I have just got to share what I feel about the whole thing, you know? I’m going to walk you through all the main bits of my time there and maybe give you the download of if a trip of that length is basically a sweet spot for experiencing the heart of Nepal, is that something you want? Or, if you maybe want to spend longer soaking it all up; either way, it’s pretty magical.

Arrival and Settling In: Thamel Time

Thamel Kathmandu

Arriving at Tribhuvan International Airport is, that, something. Getting through the visa process is a bit wild, yet, after that, stepping outside you are welcomed by, you know, like, this rush of air, sounds, and colors! Pretty quick I was whisked away to Thamel, that’s essentially the tourist hub of Kathmandu, just the place you want to be, where basically all the action takes place.

My first impression? Kind of a sensory overload, that, but also utterly amazing, like very inviting. So, the streets are just alive with vendors selling everything, you know, from pashminas to prayer wheels, and the restaurants and cafes are pouring out some proper tempting aromas. Finding your lodging should not take much time and the options for places to stay, right, well they vary from affordable guest houses to a bit more lush places to crash, that.

That first evening was about soaking in the vibe. I mean wandering around Thamel, just a bit, getting a feel for the local stores and perhaps eating in a restaurant where the food has quite a reputation and trying momos – like just proper savory dumplings which I think is very, very important; a really very very important Nepal tradition! So, just, maybe, start to ease yourself into the culture.

Day 2: Kathmandu’s Cultural Heart – Swayambhunath and Durbar Square

Swayambhunath and Durbar Square Kathmandu

Okay, so day two, this is when the fun properly begins, I mean when you start dipping your toes into the cultural well, alright. I started off going to Swayambhunath, more often just known as the Monkey Temple, right. This is where you will get properly fantastic views that go over Kathmandu and like proper insight into the religious kind of significance of Nepal.

Yes, the steps up, well, they are, right, a bit of a climb, yet trust me that the panoramic sight of the town surrounded by hills at the top is worth all the heavy panting. So, you will be spending time going around the stupa, obviously taking in the prayer wheels, perhaps snapping a pic of the monkeys and generally soaking up this seriously spiritual atmosphere; really do that.

After that, in the afternoon, visit Durbar Square. Like that used to be the royal square and it’s got all sorts of old places, temples, and courtyards that give proper glimpses into the building talent and the history of Nepal. Right, though some of it was damaged in the earthquake from 2015, you know, it’s still awesome to see that the place has been lovingly done back to looking its best. Keep an eye out, that, for the Kumari Ghar, it’s where the Royal Kumari, is that the living goddess, lives. The buildings are all wood carvings that I found especially intriguing and they give the place some kind of atmosphere!

Day 3: Patan and Bhaktapur: Ancient Cities

Patan and Bhaktapur Nepal

Time to jump further out of the Kathmandu central spot for some cultural discoveries on day three, you see? Basically Patan is known just so much for all its good craftsmanship and arts, too, that, you really shouldn’t forget it! Its Durbar Square is, yet, quite as big as the Kathmandu version, still it is covered with brilliant temples and it is one location where you might be just in need of quite a long sit. Do also check out the Patan Museum, since that does properly have a collection of conventional Nepalese art.

Next on the schedule after that, get yourself down to Bhaktapur, almost the location you are probably searching for as it is more like well looked after! What Bhaktapur has done is managed to, like, protect a bit more of a medieval sense and has locations just spilling out all the character you want and just old world buildings. Do take in Nyatapola Temple – a fantastic building, and just explore the busy market locations to grab how they are today really are.

Oh, right and there’s the pottery square and there’s people knocking up pots from raw material, also a quite interesting bit! Getting about is like pretty simple by taxi, yet think about perhaps jumping onto a tour so, too, to skip the bit where you should navigate, if you get confused or whatever; I actually like doing it that way!

Day 4: Boudhanath and Pashupatinath: Spiritual Immersion

Boudhanath and Pashupatinath

Day four really made its way down deep on the like spiritual part of the itinerary. Going to Boudhanath is that something, well that’s not very like anything else on the entire earth! It’s a massive stupa, that’s been looking down on everything and there’s so many Buddhist that comes to get inspiration! Wandering the rim around it, watching people moving, just the chants, like that will completely have your entire self just fully content, trust me. Perhaps even check out some monasteries which could surround the position, there’s so, too, to see and think deeply on?

From one religious position to one different you want to perhaps spend part of the later side of that daytime seeing Pashupatinath; that is, actually, a temple set off dedicated to something just actually spiritual in all levels! Although those that don’t act into these religions can’t exactly walk proper into some area, watching the preparations on the Bagmati stream that flows here give thoughts that were not very average.

I want you, that, to treat this location with huge amount because it’s completely a deep religious spot for like loads and you are going to probably get insight that makes you think; that’s almost definitely good. The contrast between Boudhanath’s kind tranquility with the almost intense emotions found by this religious position just offers all the feels and thoughts you are wanting or even craving or hoping for!

Day 5: Nagarkot Sunrise and Final Kathmandu Exploration

Nagarkot Sunrise

So day five, perhaps the location where you get off out right before first daytime, right, requires going off off to Nagarkot so, too, so people see first lights that beam into the sky! That area has this good place for overlooking into those far away hills so perhaps going through early will show some spectacular light! Yeah it means awakening before sun appears, still witnessing hilltops glow? Perfect reward there, no joke at all!

The other time there goes just dropping down at Kathmandu to investigate any location people perhaps didn’t get around initially? Maybe jump through shop stores shopping stuff? You’re going to be hoping some more eating occurs through one area that makes tasty cooking! Right maybe have some moments from that day to be doing some deep relaxing previously with packing; yeah always required eh?!

Day 6: Farewell, Kathmandu!

Kathmandu Departure

And, as quick, that, when this happens, comes daytime six! Those final secs will see people going back down by planes! So I say do getting early so to be getting by roads during great lots traffic is just what this takes and double make proper sure everything’s prepared to roll; it just happens! Having said those goodbye thoughts, yes you are out heading off making thoughts around great seconds during your duration! Also I hope Kathmandu manages it makes wanting through doing to be showing it with so, too! That sounds like a victory! Maybe that means the town takes and never says totally goodbye but you see it again someday?! We shall find out right?

Was 5 Nights 6 Days Sufficient?

Alright so thinking round being the long this was? With I believe it worked actually to touch upon a few good stuff. Having said a bigger tour makes taking longer as there’s several locations this doesn’t also have in their scope which I hope so people did check over to right. Maybe this’ll also have the spot what goes near hills through trekking right into Everest region, that! Maybe just longer will bring chances like going seeing some different towns? Regardless it really lets be having a taste through what happens and can hopefully provide people to becoming interested round heading there a bigger period down sometime sometime which they also want right. Whatever that works like? A sweet trip indeed it’s just not long right I will say!!
