Ile Aux Cerfs Catamaran Trip: A Review with Lunch & GRSE Waterfall
Dreaming of powdery sands and turquoise waters? That is, the catamaran trip to Ile Aux Cerfs in Mauritius often pops up as a “must-do”. It’s almost always hyped up, promising a memorable day of sailing, swimming, and feasting. That being said, I recently went on this very tour, you know, the one that includes lunch and a visit to the GRSE Waterfall, and thought I’d share, very honestly, what the experience was really like, and give you, potentially, helpful insights.
Setting Sail: The Catamaran Experience
First off, you get to the meeting point, usually a beach on the east coast. The catamarans, they’re pretty spacious, too, with netting at the front where you can lounge and soak up the sun, maybe. As we set off, the crew turned up the music and started serving drinks, which definitely got everyone in a cheerful, you know, holiday mood. That sail itself is fairly relaxing, a bit; gliding over the water, with the coastline slowly disappearing behind us, like it’s magic, very relaxing actually!
Now, I did notice it could get a bit crowded. Depending on the tour operator, these catamarans can pack quite a few people. This can, maybe, affect the feeling of relaxation, a little; particularly if you’re hoping for something more intimate. Very busy too!
I mean, is the crew important too? They definitely made an effort to keep everyone entertained, telling stories about the island and pointing out various landmarks. However, the level of attentiveness varies, very much though. In some respects, the crew can be so good!
The Allure of Ile Aux Cerfs
Ile Aux Cerfs, it’s a beautiful island, yes. The beaches really are postcard-worthy, just like in pictures, really lovely, you know. We had a couple of hours there to just relax, swim, or try out some water sports. I opted for a swim in the lagoon, the water being wonderfully clear and calm, basically. However, just be aware it’s not exactly a hidden gem; very busy, too; you’re sharing that picturesque view with quite a lot of other tourists!
For those of you seeking solitude, so it’s almost like walking a little further down the beach, there might be some quieter spots. In my experience, I wanted to see some of the island too. But, just stick around and discover it, pretty good actually. Anyway, just don’t anticipate a completely deserted island vibe.
Lunch on Board: A Culinary Overview
Around lunchtime, the crew starts preparing the buffet. This is usually included in the tour price, anyway; it can be a real highlight. That said, the quality of the food really depends on which tour you go with, so, like your choice might be worth comparing actually. Typically, expect grilled fish or chicken, salads, rice, and some local Creole dishes. My tour had a decent spread, but very little in the way of vegetarian options to be honest.
Drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, are usually free-flowing throughout the day, is that right? A bonus; makes things very jolly. So, be sure to hydrate yourself, maybe, and watch out for the rum punch!
The GRSE Waterfall Stop
One of the selling points of this tour, of course, is a visit to the GRSE (Grand River South East) Waterfall. Is that something that most people actually like? Now, the catamaran can’t get right up to the waterfall, obviously, so you transfer to a smaller boat that navigates up the river. The scenery along the way is quite beautiful, arguably. Lush greenery and glimpses of local life offer a welcome change from the beach, you know, the waterfall stop!
That waterfall itself is fine, maybe, nothing too spectacular, too. To be perfectly honest, I think the journey up the river was the real attraction; you can find it quite fun though!
Essential Tips for a Great Trip
If you’re planning this catamaran trip, so there is lots to prepare for? Very much; here are some very helpful tips to make the most of the adventure.
- Book in Advance: It is actually more reasonable than you might think, book your tour, right? You can very well save money. Especially during peak season, right, it might not be so busy though. So, I guess what I am saying, it is easier too!
- Sun Protection: Just remember to wear sunscreen. Very much the thing to do anyway!
- What to wear?: So, anyway, consider to bring something to change into afterwards. After you been in the sun and sea for a bit, and the salt and sand could bother you quite a bit. I find a comfy tee shirt is good?
- Check Inclusions: Right so, clarify with your tour operator exactly what is included. This helps with expectations of your budget. Very important and sensible to plan.
