Honest Review: Lombard Street, Coit Tower & Chinatown Tour

Alright, so you’re thinking about seeing a bit of San Francisco, yeah? I went on that ‘Lombard Leap’ tour, and, as a matter of fact, I figured I would share what my time there looked like. This trip promised a glimpse at some famous spots: Lombard Street, Coit Tower, and Chinatown. I mean, the big hitters, pretty much! I’ll walk you through what to maybe expect, minus, actually, the overly rosy ads.

First Stop: That Winding Road – Lombard Street

Lombard Street

First, they take you, that is, on over to Lombard Street. Look, the pictures you see online? So pretty, too picturesque it’s almost unrealistic, really! When you get there, though, it’s, I mean, very busy! You’re likely jockeying for space with everyone else trying to snap the same shot, sort of! Our guide did, it’s worth noting, share some interesting history; how this came to be and whatnot, yet very little can distract you from, obviously, the swarm of folks all around. Still, seeing it with your very own eyes, very nice! It’s a kinda a check-it-off-the-list kinda thing. You look and, okay, that’s Lombard Street, definitely something!

Coit Tower: Views and a Bit of a Climb

Coit Tower

Coit Tower was next. Is that the big view spot! Now, the tower itself, well it’s neat, too. The murals inside, historically and culturally meaningful in some respects. Okay, that is a climb to the top! Seemingly never-ending steps might make you breathe just a bit heavy, yeah? The view, well, you do catch sights of the bay and city, usually. On the day I visited, though, some fog got in the way. But that happens! It’s San Francisco, so I believe it’s more unusual not to have some fog.

I would add one thing about Coit Tower. So if you plan to get right up into the tower proper, you might be made to queue a bit. Time slots control foot traffic up there, and at times things got a little, somewhat… congested. The tour company warned us, arguably that helps, that the elevator is kinda slow and holds limited passengers. This meant a small wait, as a matter of fact. Keep it in mind.

Chinatown: A World Apart

Chinatown San Francisco

Then, actually the tour swung through Chinatown. Of the three locations, I feel, without a doubt, this stop really hit the spot. It is unlike anywhere else in the city! The commotion is very exciting; stores packed tightly together with some really neat stuff, and you’re constantly bombarded with, apparently, delicious aromas, often. The guide on my tour, basically took time describing all the history of this special area; many immigrants establishing this place generations before, that kinda stuff, usually. It’s truly some place very interesting!

What actually grabbed me by surprise in Chinatown, so, too, its vibrant authentic character is that every place else can be just a bit sanitized for those traveling; the restaurants still offer the real food! Make some space in your tummy; alright and enjoy the snack adventures all around. We enjoyed some delightful buns! Mmm!

What You Get, Too

This is the general tour layout, now for some thoughts; this trip is a solid overview for any traveler looking for that snapshot of San Francisco. Some really like organized tours so the travel between attractions becomes very effortless. Most times it can actually work cheaper than running separate trips individually plus transport fees. That’s kinda nice.

A factor I did, it seems, enjoy was, in fact, our guide. That fellow knew all the things about town! I had, very specifically, questions regarding public transportation. And where could, arguably you buy specific trinkets; even just the general stuff about area legends; it became like you actually traveled with some buddy! Now if having local experts kinda appeals to you then that could easily swing your choice towards something very structured and very guided, often.

Some Possible Hiccups

Not every trip flows exactly well, usually. San Francisco traffic can, honestly, throw off even schedule that has a plan, often. Lombard Street gets quite busy; likewise, also at Coit Tower. Do ready yourself to have the place fully stacked along your specific tourist schedule, that. Though trips have routes all scheduled on time, occasionally things might slow, seemingly, that. Remember all things; alright and it just keeps one from anticipating any hiccups and to just, perhaps, adapt smoothly once little delays crop during the daytime, that. Traffic did mean an itinerary adjustment. But a minor one really!

The amount you explore could feel brief, or, too rushed in specific areas. A couple could’ve enjoyed some additional minutes just viewing Coit’s inner wall art, for example, first. Should you have your interests, maybe then consider those privately guided options letting travelers tweak the trips to just what catches their eye a bit more; maybe better for just deep looks instead rushing via the tourist map.

So, Is the ‘Lombard Leap’ Tour Worth It?

Do you look to view a small glimpse into the main draws of the city within only several hours then absolutely.
