Hanoi City Shore Excursion: Honest Review from Ha Long Port

Hanoi City

Have you thought about getting off your cruise ship at Ha Long Port and then seeing Hanoi for a day? This is often called the “Shore Excursion Discovery Ha Noi City From Ha Long Port,” and it’s something I did not too long ago. So, it’s like your ship pulls into port, and very quickly there is a way for you to jump on a bus to check out Vietnam’s awesome capital city. Here’s what the trip was like, what I thought, and some stuff you, too, may want to think about before going.

The Initial Pickup and the Drive

Ha Long Port

Okay, so the whole thing starts as soon as you walk off the ship. Right away you find your tour group and jump on a bus. I will tell you, the drive to Hanoi is, well, pretty lengthy; just a bit long actually! It eats up a big piece of the day, you know? Depending on traffic and road conditions, it often could be something like two to four hours… Each way! So it really pays to be prepared for a good chunk of time just sitting on the bus. You will definitely want some things to keep you busy – a book, shows saved on your phone, very much maybe a travel pillow. If you get carsick kind of easily, do take some medicine before getting on the bus. One advantage, though, is that the scenery is interesting! You pass by rice paddies and little towns. Plus, there are rest stops where you can stretch your legs and buy some snacks. Overall, it’s part of what happens on this trip, you know? This, too, means starting out quite early!

Hanoi’s Highlights: What You Get to See

Hanoi Highlights

When you finally get there, Hanoi definitely makes it all worthwhile. The excursion usually includes a bunch of famous places, too. First thing, you are going to visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. Is that where the body of Ho Chi Minh is displayed? After that, you may go to the Presidential Palace and Ho Chi Minh’s Stilt House; you get the idea of how he used to live and about his life. Next on the list often is the One Pillar Pagoda, which is really something! This very cool, old temple has such amazing construction, very much maybe that’s because it seems to come up right out of the water. The Temple of Literature, you see, is a big part of it, and the spot, apparently, of Vietnam’s first university. You can wander around the courtyards and check out the ancient architecture. Very much maybe you should remember to show some respect for such a historically sensitive place!

Experiencing Hanoi’s Old Quarter

Hanoi Old Quarter

The Old Quarter; a truly special experience that is so unforgettable in Hanoi. The tour, too, usually includes some time walking around these super-old streets. And there? You will find small shops, street food stalls, oh yeah, so much of the atmosphere is there! It can be a bit much because there is traffic and all sorts of chaos, yet it just is part of its beauty. I suggest tasting some local treats, or trying some pho, or some banh mi from those street vendors. Remember too, to haggle a bit if you intend on shopping. Things over there? Often negotiable in price.

Lunch and Local Cuisine

Vietnamese Cuisine

A good meal usually gets put into the plan on such an excursion. You will be taken to one of those local spots for what they call a set menu. So, it isn’t very much some big, wild choice, but it gives you a chance to eat some authentic Vietnamese foods. Most likely, there is going to be spring rolls, some kind of tasty noodle dish, rice and things that often come from that place. I always see it as such a high point when I get to experience food somewhere different!

Water Puppet Show

Water Puppet Show

If your tour is able to include this? Wow! This really makes it something that much more special. Water puppetry? It is super ancient in its artform! The artists over there stand in the water and then make these wooden puppets act out ancient stories, using the water as their stage. It is accompanied with music! And stories! So that helps you know what’s going on; very much a captivating, unique thing. I find the legends and skills in this old form just absolutely amazing!

What I Thought: The Good and The Not-So-Good

Tourist Review

So then, it can really feel cramped to attempt Hanoi on just some day trip while you’re docked at Ha Long Port. There are super many positives, too, though. Being able to see the center of Vietnam without all that hustle to plan things all by yourself? Awesome. Those sights? Something like non-negotiable when you get to see northern Vietnam. It’s a great quick view, in some respects, of the local culture. Yet you will be spending so very long on that bus ride. Plus it often felt that we were really in a hurry, really running here and there just to cram all this stuff in. If I could advise anyone thinking of this sort of trip? Be ready for a quite quick, possibly tiring type day!

Things to Keep in Mind if You Do This Tour

Travel Tips

Okay so, you’re thinking that you might just actually go ahead and book that day trip over to Hanoi. Awesome! Here’s some things to think on:

  • Comfort is key: Have comfortable clothes and shoes that are great just for walking. Since the streets can be very uneven, skip high heels, please!
  • Bring stuff for the bus: Load up all the things for spending a good amount of time while traveling: books, films, games, music; so really? Whatever you would want just to kill some time.
  • Be aware of scams: You see; especially within tourist spots. keep your belongings close. Have a skeptical mind, so to speak, with any type random “offers” over there.
  • Stay hydrated: I am not kidding; drinking plenty of water over there is so very critical, especially when those hotter days show up. Keep that bottle always filled.
  • Check what’s included: Take the time to totally know just what all you can expect with a tour when that gets booked; what all gets included – meals or entrance fees – this definitely helps in avoiding those possible unpleasant surprises.
  • Consider a private tour: In this case, it feels as if one wishes more wiggle room and a pace adjusted according to them – it might very well be so awesome if they book that private version of that Hanoi day thing instead

Is That Hanoi Day Trip from Ha Long Port Good?

Travel Destination Review

Overall; that ‘Shore Excursion Discovery Ha Noi City From Ha Long Port’? Very much might prove to be such an unforgettable part of what makes your Vietnamese cruise actually something very special! You can see some places within an entire day that you could often be really proud you went to visit. But it does not come without trade-offs; very much especially when you remember those longer bus rides, a hectic tempo. Therefore? Being well aware of those details? Can definitely help when ensuring it feels as if your decision? Seems well worth doing for all of you personally; that may consider taking part yourselves! Just planning for a bit ahead allows you to simply experience whatever it is without some added worries after that time.

Key things I came away with from the tour:

  • Long travel days over there may prove pretty normal in northern parts Vietnamese cities coming right from Ha Long so one’d better make preparations for bus periods lasting very long or get something special prepared before arrival over there!
  • Ancient Quarter within Vietnamese metropolitan hubs is one area often feeling rather full packed yet is completely brimming now despite being completely interesting at this place also.
  • Local water artwork provides opportunities if some day visit gets offered; so then this would seem kind worth investing on since any traditional skill might never disappoint us at last

Is something not right for me with certain fast stops although if your goal’s only about seeking Northern Vietnam despite just having limited spans while still around due any cruise timeline; thus might sound more acceptable instead other possible choices maybe!
