Ha Giang Majestic Tours: An In-depth 4-Day Easy Rider Review

Thinking about hitting up Ha Giang in northern Vietnam? The Ha Giang Loop is really one of those must-do experiences for adventure-seekers and culture enthusiasts alike. So, it’s almost something you absolutely have to put on your travel list! I recently did the 4-day Easy Rider tour with Ha Giang Majestic Tours, and you know, I’m here to give you, like your inside scoop on the whole thing.

Why Choose Ha Giang Majestic Tours?

Ha Giang Majestic Tours

Okay, so there are tons of tour operators that you find out there, is that right? Yet, I chose Ha Giang Majestic Tours based on a few really crucial things. To begin with, their glowing online reviews, like seriously, swayed me! Then, their promise of a pretty stress-free, well-organized adventure that sounded pretty amazing, is that it. They even included bus transport to and from Hanoi! It meant I did not have to, like, figure that stuff out myself, by the way, which I think you appreciate.

The All-Important Itinerary: Day by Day

Ha Giang Loop Itinerary

Alright, let’s just get into what each day held. I will be as descriptive as I can!

Day 1: Hanoi to Ha Giang – Getting Started

The tour begins with an overnight bus trip that is just from Hanoi to Ha Giang City, which takes a solid six to seven hours that may tire you, you know? The bus that Majestic Tours uses is quite comfy though, more or less. It comes complete with sleeping berths, so it makes the whole journey a little bit easier, just so you can get that rest. Once I got to Ha Giang, I was welcomed by the Majestic Tours folks who brought me right to the hostel. After I took the time to freshen up and grab some food, I just had a short briefing that gave me the plan for the coming days that are coming up, right?

Day 2: Ha Giang City to Yen Minh – Into the Mountains

Alright, it all gets started right after an energizing breakfast! I met my Easy Rider. I hopped on the back of the motorbike (they will let you drive yourself if that is what you want to do), and we hit the road that takes you through these fantastic landscapes, more or less. The views along the way are absolutely incredible as you start winding up those hills, by the way. Highlights include the Quan Ba Heaven Gate and the Twin Mountains, which will probably give you the best views and photo ops for the day. We stayed overnight in Yen Minh. It is a rather cute, quiet little town.

Day 3: Yen Minh to Dong Van – Geopark Adventures

From Yen Minh, that takes you straight on to Dong Van, I think it’s probably one of the best sections, really! So, we cruised through the Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark, that will show you landscapes that I would not describe with your average adjective, it’s unique, right? The scenery had mountains, valleys, and just, well, seriously cool rock formations, just a little. We then took in the Hmong King’s Palace, a fascinating slice of the history of the place, if that’s your cup of tea. We made sure to finish up the day with a stroll around the old town of Dong Van. It really brought the place alive, seriously.

Day 4: Dong Van to Ha Giang (and Back to Hanoi) – The Final Stretch

I would say that this last day had a good amount of gorgeous views even on our way back, even if it was long. We rode through the Ma Pi Leng Pass that you might find out is easily one of the highlights. Honestly, from there you just get breathtaking panoramic views! It is almost surreal when you are right there. Then you go on through more H’mong and Tay villages on the return. Once you’re back in Ha Giang, you hop back on a bus, more or less, heading to Hanoi and that signals the end of the trip.

Easy Rider Experience: More Than Just a Ride

Ha Giang Easy Rider

Okay, what is it like to have an Easy Rider? Really they were local guides doubling as drivers, if that is how to phrase that, which added something you do not get without them. These guys were great! The locals, who are all very knowledgeable, are also ready to chat. I found my driver’s stories about the local culture were insightful and the driving, safe.

Food and Accommodation: What to Expect

Ha Giang Food

So the food along the tour is largely going to be tasty Vietnamese that reflects the region’s flavors! Each meal had just tons of tasty food, from rice noodle soups and spring rolls. Accommodations ran from guest houses to homestays with basic stuff but, generally, were clean. At the homestays you find you get a closer glimpse into their everyday lives, if you are up for it, anyway.

The Nitty-Gritty: What’s Included and What’s Not

Ha Giang Tour Included

Typically, you can see in the package you can expect all the transport to and from Hanoi (bus), an Easy Rider guide, meals, and just some pretty comfy lodging to crash. Drinks and personal expenses would definitely be things that you do have to cover yourself.

What I Liked and Did Not Like (Pros & Cons)

Pros and Cons

Here is the, honestly, short version:

The Pros:

  • Very well-planned itinerary which is something you’ll love, right?
  • Guides were local. It is really good to talk with locals that love the area they are showing.
  • Transportation back and forth which really takes off a little pressure, just a bit!

The Cons:

  • At the destinations, the level of comfort at lodging wasn’t the highest thing, yet passable that is just for a few nights, though.
  • Long bus ride from Hanoi which I found gets a bit tiresome; not Majestic Tours fault, that, though, haha!
