Then after the sunset we got to the hotel, which was, okay, nice for an overnight.

Day 2: New Delhi and Agra

The second day, things picked up considerably, if you ask me. The itinerary included places in New Delhi first. That involved a drive past India Gate, a quick visit to Humayun’s Tomb, which I think, in a way, competes with the Taj in splendor, then on to the President’s House. Getting to see these spots was just hitting the highlights, but at least there were these views. By the early afternoon, it was time to drive to Agra. Road trips in India can be exhausting, to be honest. This can last three or four hours; our driver was very competent, thankfully, so it was fairly painless. I dozed for most of it. Agra’s hotel was quite welcoming and allowed me to shower immediately. We didn’t go and see the Taj Mahal till sunrise the following morning, I did wonder why, since everyone likes that structure. The reason that morning was just to rest, in essence.

Day 3: Agra and Jaipur

Day three: the Taj Mahal. Well, what could I state, really? Up early for sunrise and seeing the landmark in that glow… oh it did feel incredibly grand. Then our guide, very helpful and knowledgeable, told all about the landmark’s story, getting from Shah Jahan to Mumtaz Mahal, that thing. We then saw Agra Fort, which gave a cool snapshot into Mughal-era construction and got in the architecture’s grand design and history. Driving on to Jaipur post-lunch felt very, very long indeed, maybe five or six hours of going up the highway. I wished I had gotten ready for even a longer drive. Arriving tired to another pleasant lodging made up for it though.

Day 4: Jaipur and Return to Mumbai

Day four, that final day, really felt hurried. What they wanted to achieve was as many famous attractions crammed in as they can. After going to see the Hawa Mahal we visited Amber Fort during morning time – that was really superb and a definite highlight. Next on, going to see the Jantar Mantar observatory, and I have to state, I liked all those big astronomical gadgets. Lunch, very tasty food, before racing straight for the Jaipur airport. And what with security queues plus flight times back to Mumbai? You feel extremely worn down! So, really, expect this, prepare.

What I Really Enjoyed

• The Taj Mahal during that beautiful sunrise, is a unique attraction.
• The guides, generally, being highly knowledgeable at all sites we went.
• Getting some fantastic pictures to remember all of it!

Some Difficulties and Challenges

• That time driving in a car from destination to destination. India’s streets and highways feel chaotic often.
• Times that tour felt hurried so to fit stuff inside time limitations. I wished for more chances just to wander at each place.
• That some “included” parts were added at additional costs that were not totally explained when things kicked off!
