But, the big draw, as I was saying, the part that makes everyone sign up, is seeing the bio-luminescent plankton, tiny organisms that light up when the water is disturbed. Typically, you, sort of like your own adventure, start around 5 PM from Gili Meno (but also maybe from one of the other Gili Islands – Trawangan or Air, and stuff, so that may depend on the particular tour operator) aboard a traditional outrigger boat, actually a cool little thing in itself. Arriving on Gili Meno felt like entering another time. No cars or motorbikes – just bicycles and horse-drawn carts, well you know. My hotel wasn’t anything fancy, to be honest, but it was right on the beach, right so, the sound of the waves was my constant companion, alright.

The day of the boat trip, just, like your big adventure, was sunny, not very special to be fair. I spent the morning snorkeling off the beach, because honestly, the coral is just fantastic, maybe even slightly exquisite. Later in the afternoon, I wandered over to the tour operator’s meeting spot, actually quite a lively area as it got closer to departure. The anticipation in the air was kinda very contagious.

What to anticipate on the water?

We, not so unlike other tours, set off around 5:30 PM, almost too cliche with a small group of travelers, mainly couples and a few solo adventurers, oh so interesting. The crew, in some respects, were super friendly, pretty typical. As we, not unline other guests, sailed towards the sunset, they told us all about the area, you know, the local culture and the marine life. Most people, but maybe not your experience, jumped into the water – I kinda had to try it too. Swimming among those tiny glowing lights was like being in a fairy tale. Every movement created a ripple of light, a bit breathtaking, actually. The whole experience, at the end of the day, lasted maybe 45 minutes, or something close to it. We then headed back to Gili Meno, quite and honestly very giddy from what we’d just witnessed.

I told you before, so be prepare because it has many fish and cool wildlife. There’s a spot known as the Turtle Heaven since a huge population lives around, I can see them, can you?
The Gili Meno Lake: Basically you have to find this cool spot and enjoy the lake on foot. Enjoy all kind of birds and plants. Don’t expect a very great journey, its a medium size, so bring someone to tell some stories and thats a nice little memory for you, but also for the other person!
Sunset point: Sunset, to be honest, is the best thing you can find in this island. Everyday will offer diferent lights and shadows. With that you will have different photos that you can send or sell, just take it! A boat point would work for this trip.
Walk: Take your time and walk around the island! The island will take at least 3 hours to circle on foot, its not very wide, but is very amazing because every resort is different, but beautiful in his unique ways. I advise you take notes, because most stores aren’t on Google Maps.

Is This Boat Trip Worth the Money, in Gili Meno?

So, in conclusion, the Gili Meno Sunset Boat Adventure with luminous plankton, for me, almost worth it, you can take this and you would spend nice moments in the sea! Sure, but actually a trip that offers something truly unforgettable for your sea lover friends, if you do you will gift that special day! The combination of a tropical sunset with swimming into the stars makes this excursion absolutely spectacular.
