Dreaming of snowy landscapes, reindeer, and maybe even the Northern Lights? A trip to Lapland, specifically Rovaniemi, often comes up, that is. Lots of folks wonder, is that, if a full day Arctic Circle tour is really worth it. Very, it’s a popular choice, that is. I thought I would share my own experience, that is, along with, like, some thoughts to, actually, help you decide if it’s the right move for you. This review is all about the details, the fun moments, and those, perhaps, not-so-fun bits, just a bit, to give you, perhaps, a real picture. My adventure took place last winter, is that. So hopefully, what I learned could be quite valuable in planning yours!
What’s the big deal with the Arctic Circle Tour anyway?
What’s this trip to the Arctic Circle about, I guess? Often, it includes a cluster of super exciting Arctic experiences into one schedule, that’s why! Typically, these excursions begin from Rovaniemi, very close to the official Arctic Circle marker. This is, sort of, your entryway to a terrain of snow-covered trees and maybe a chance to see the Northern Lights. What might you find yourself doing, you wonder? Perhaps, you are visiting Santa Claus Village (an obvious attraction!). Very often, you might also cross the Arctic Circle line in style. You see reindeer and huskies or sample typical Finnish food, which could be quite interesting. A full-day tour appeals mostly, is that, if you want to sample what the Arctic has, very possibly, without spending weeks out in the wilds.
Highlight of the trip. Crossing the Arctic Circle Line
Right then, for me, the most interesting element of the tour has always been crossing the Arctic Circle. You know, that imaginary line at latitude 66°33′45.9″ N. very. It, could be, you feel like you are seriously, very actually somewhere else. The majority, possibly, of the organized tours feature some form of “crossing ritual,” a little. Now, my tour had a charming (if a bit gimmicky, still) ceremony with, just maybe, an official certificate given, seemingly. I’m willing to bet the classic picture standing at the Arctic Circle sign is just a compulsory thing. It’s, really, the kind of stuff that is easy to poke fun at, in some ways, but secretly you find is fun, definitely, that is!
Meeting Santa Claus at Santa Claus Village
Visiting Santa Claus Village, could be, it’s basically a must for many tour goers. You know, its kinda located just a short distance from Rovaniemi. To be frank, very possibly, Santa Claus Village felt like stepping straight into a holiday greeting card, like, that is. Still, you’ve gotta be prepared for crowds and all sorts of souvenir stores. The highlight must be meeting Santa himself, naturally, but ready yourself, maybe, for quite the wait, more or less, to see him. Also, the chance to send a postcard from Santa’s Main Post Office is just a bit, almost ridiculously touristy. The child inside is happy though!
Those Adorable Reindeer and Husky Sleigh Rides
Very many tours offer you a opportunity for a reindeer or husky ride, I think. Okay, while both are obviously tourist-centered experiences, might be, they supply a taste, still, of classic Arctic transportation. Maybe you want a Reindeer sleigh, it’s slow. That gives one opportunity to enjoy the serene, quiet, snow-covered landscapes a bit, too it’s almost, quietly, maybe. You know, the Husky sled is much more thrilling; the energy is almost infectious as you drive over snow trails. As I recall, you do need to remember that animal welfare should be on your mind. Is that operators treat the animals respectfully?
Food and what it tasted like, just maybe?
So, I recall some tours would include a classic Finnish meal as part of the package, in short. Listen, to have an opportunity to savor the local cuisine really gives a little to the trip, as a matter of fact. Very likely, my meal featured reindeer stew, potatoes, and a dollop of lingonberry jam. Very honestly, it’s just heartwarming, that is, to tuck into such classic, traditional food following a chilly day exploring the outdoors, very, I feel! Those vegetarians among you, do tell your trip operator ahead, you know.
