Hey there! Getting out to soak in some French Riviera sunshine? So, that whole stretch of the Mediterranean coast is famous, really, for fancy beaches, art, and seriously picturesque towns, yet it’s almost tricky to pick just where to go. We gave that “From Nice: Cannes, Antibes & Saint Paul de Vence Tour” a shot. Think of it as a sample platter, giving you a taste of what this amazing region is all about, and we are going to give you our honest opinion. It’s not always what you read on the tour websites, yet you do get to see a lot, that’s a fact. You can check if it’s very much worth your while.

First Stop: Glamorous Cannes, sort of

Cannes film festival

Ok, so Cannes, straight away, conjures up images of the film festival, superyachts, plus fancy folks. First off, you’re whisked away there by bus. Actually, the trip gives you views of the water the whole way, too, which is pleasant. Arguably, Cannes lives up to the hype? Well, kind of.

That’s to say, you will get to see the red carpet at the Palais des Festivals – yep, that’s where the magic of the film festival does happen. It’s cool to stand where all the celebrities have stood, really. It is likely you won’t spot any celebrities hanging about during your trip unless you’re seriously lucky, though. You know, we could not help but snap some photos.

La Croisette, like, the main drag in Cannes, is something to see, very. All those designer shops plus fancy hotels are totally eye-catching, and we were gazing, clearly, at price tags. The beach looks golden and great, still the prices for a day there look fairly eye-watering, too. Anyway, our tour let us stroll around, and take in the vibes.

Yet there’s almost a ‘stage set’ kind of feeling in Cannes, too, still. You see the glam, you also might not feel connected to it, honestly. Like your tour may feel brief.

Antibes: Charm and History blended somewhat

Antibes harbor

Next on our hop, like your tour of the French Riviera was Antibes, and the change of pace makes itself noticed in some respects. This, really, has more a towny feel to it.

Now, you are able to walk the ramparts, these old stone walls which hug the sea, really. They feel old. Plus, there is a solid amount of history right there, in that case, if you give your imagination space to wander around in.

The Marché Provençal, that is, the local market, buzzes with life; if you have time, that is, grab a snack here. There are, clearly, piles of olives, spices, soaps… Basically, you will find things, very.

Oh, we visited the Picasso Museum which is based in the Château Grimaldi where he had a studio briefly. The building itself is impressive. We don’t all enjoy modern art, honestly, yet, Picasso had some connections in the area; we feel that’s a fair thing to say. If you love his art, arguably, this will blow your mind. It’s good, yet this spot did not exactly have an impression on us.

Anyway, Antibes balances the glitz and the real; even the harbor seems to show real industry and commerce, that’s obvious.

Saint Paul De Vence: The Prettiest Hilltop Village really

Saint Paul De Vence

Eventually, Saint Paul de Vence really did it for me. We’re going to say that’s where this day trip truly shined.

Picture this if you could, and prepare to get excited: a walled village that sits way high on a hill. Now you’re getting it. Its small cobblestone lanes make it rather nice just to wander, plus they seem to wind around for days. Bougainvillea bursts over stone walls, if you see it at the right time, of course. That’s to say, you can almost get some awesome photo ops here.

Saint Paul is known for its art galleries, there is no doubt. What it actually means, then, is the village feels artistic; you feel this even if art galleries do not float your boat, totally. Plus there’s sculpture sitting around. Actually, this definitely adds some appeal, right?

There are restaurants aplenty to suit various budgets if you wish to grab lunch there. Though you can end up paying fairly dearly to have lunch in such a beautiful location! The views, it is almost worth it. Now that you’re there, enjoy the quiet, like your small bistros, just absorb it all.

Saint Paul de Vence felt charming, clearly, genuine; you just enjoy a piece of the old Provence dream that’s very real.

Things to know if you wish to book!

bus tour

Right, so that tour, we need to let you know some important details: it almost involved a tour guide providing commentary between stops, though sometimes we had spare time solo. It’s that time we got lost in Saint Paul de Vence.

The tour gives an overview if you prefer to see as much as you can and you are tight on time, that’s an idea. If you like moving at your pace and sticking at places that intrigue you, yet it is maybe less amazing.

Anyway, you will need comfy footwear, especially since those Saint Paul’s lanes are no joke; and have euros for food and stuff, too.

Just note, still, if the thought of coach trips generally gives you chills: it’s how this runs. So if it sounds bad, that day tour is simply not for you; so book smaller groups, maybe. Now they will likely be costlier.

Arguably, those tours deliver what it promises; just be conscious of the kind of trip you have been looking to make.

Final Thoughts and Main Highlights, really

french riviera

You know what, we think our “From Nice: Cannes, Antibes & Saint Paul de Vence Tour” was almost like a French Riviera tasting menu. To explain a little: it’s good value if you’re short on time and prefer that ‘overview’ experience, yet that pace comes at the expense of real in-depth exploration. We’re not gonna pretend it was a life-changing experience, right?

The highlights were quite simply: standing on that Cannes red carpet, roaming along Antibes old walls, and finding ourselves captured in the charm that is in Saint Paul de Vence; so, the tour delivers these at a fair value point.

Remember, still, consider your preferences as to your own tempo. It’s an overview and does not drill down, right, however the tour enables you to check three Riviera icons off in a day, which for most of us, can be a real plus, actually.

  • Cannes Quick View: Just glimpse the Film Festival site and the Croisette.
  • Antibes Mix: Is an experience which gives history and marketplace appeal.
  • Saint Paul Gem: Provides one genuinely charming hilltop village stop.
  • Fast Paced: Three locations one day, at a canter is almost good, potentially bad.
  • Transported by coach: Actually if the big coach trip feels too generic it does not sit with you.
