Fez Desert Tour

Looking at doing a desert tour starting and ending in Fez but making your way through Marrakech? The ‘From Fes 2 Day Luxury Desert Tour to Marrakech Back Fez’ might be what you’re after, too, and this review helps work out if that trip matches what you have in mind. I’m going to share insights, tips, and an open view on what you should expect, based on my experience, alright? What I aim to give you is, like, an actual feel for what it’s all about so you can work out if it’s worth the money and the time investment. Very fair? Let’s see then.

The Allure of a Luxury Desert Escape

Luxury Desert Escape

Desert tours from Fez to Marrakech are, of course, appealing because they show you the starkness of Morocco, alright? Throwing the term “luxury” is what pulls you in. But, really, what does that even mean? In my opinion, a smooth ride in a comfy vehicle, nice accommodation along the route, and people taking care of everything all the time, very? But, I can say, it can be very difficult balancing those expectations and reality, as it’s almost something you will realize the minute you’re 5 minutes into the adventure, as I was saying.

With this particular trip, what I hoped for, arguably, was a dash of pampering blended with, like, cultural experiences, so I could appreciate the real Morocco, too. Very simple indeed? It’s really about stepping away from regular life and diving into, what, an ancient, serene place—with comforts, you know?

First Day: Fez to the Sahara’s Edge

Sahara's Edge

So, the morning started as most tours do, you know? Being picked up. You will have a driver right there ready to go at the specified meeting place. That means very early in the morning if you want to fit everything in, honestly. We drove past the Middle Atlas mountains; what an amazing, epic range, yeah? Along the route, the change of scenery goes from busy cities to cedar forests. In a way, it prepares you slowly, I think, for what’s to come. I found these little stops very helpful just to stretch, drink, and take photos of, like, the landscapes. That made all the difference on a day spent in the car.

The accommodation for the night before getting to the desert was, basically, quite okay, pretty much, but I think “glamping” would be overselling it, so I’d lower your expectations there, actually. Maybe if I call it a reasonably cozy hotel it will do better, right? Yet, it was decent enough to unwind and prep for the desert, yeah?

Deeper into the Desert: Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi Dunes

Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi Dunes

Day two, now? Things did start getting so very exciting. In the morning we went toward Merzouga. That place felt otherworldly, honestly. From the town’s border to the dunes it’s an astonishing experience to see Erg Chebbi outstretch to greet you, that, as a matter of fact, is almost an alien visitation moment. Then came the camels.

Now, I know riding camels tends to be very cliché, very? But seeing the sunset from atop one, and the sea of orange sands? It’s actually one of those ‘now I get it’ moments, to be fair. When night comes, the camp where we stayed was just incredible—way more luxurious than night one! So very glamorous! The tents had things like their own bathrooms, and we ate dinner under what? Millions of stars in the inky, velvet sky, yes. But even better? We did singing by a campfire as a group and hearing old Berber tales; they’re now memories I can treasure for the rest of my life, in a way.

Marrakech: A Whirlwind Visit

Marrakech Visit

Then, on day three, the ride to Marrakech felt too short and yet also long because you wanted it to carry on, basically. Marrakech might just be the peak of all of this. Djemaa el-Fna, one of the top main squares? Well, that’s a rush. Street performers are there all the time with vendors selling everything and anything. You just can’t stand still. I wished I could stay for longer. But, unfortunately, the tour, just like that, comes to an end here.

Heading Back to Fez: The Return Trip

Fez Return Trip

The drive back to Fez is, arguably, what makes or breaks this tour, if you ask me, basically. Why? Well, think about it: you’re reversing course across territory you’ve already seen. So, it’s understandable that, yes, the landscapes can still be breathtaking, however that is just not as exciting as moving forwards. By the time you return you just start feeling the fatigue; especially as it tends to be very common for most people, more or less, to experience it right as the adrenaline dips from, that, you know, the experiences from prior. So, bear in mind, the final day will simply, very probably, be a long travel day for all involved.

Is this Luxury Tour Actually Worth It?

So, yeah, it all boils down to expectations, so, does it not? Okay so maybe some parts don’t feel ‘super posh’. In that case, you may feel cheated a bit, more or less, if you actually go there anticipating a crazy luxury experience. On the other hand, the memories? I would argue they’re all great—stunning views, campfires beneath stars, and those crazy quiet times in the desert. For what you pay, you just have to ask if those kinds of memories, I’m saying, really are worth your investment.

You just need to do some sums and go ‘Actually I’m getting an experience I can’t manufacture back home’. And on that it may well stack up. But do bear in mind, again, some of those places described just may be a bit rough, sort of? But who goes all the way out to Morocco wanting it just like home? Just so very boring! And on that I think I can conclude the answer is; quite, just possibly, yes! It really is worth the effort and money at the end of the day, naturally!

Tips and Tricks for the Optimal Trip

Right, so now I should really tell you what bits can maybe help if you do one of these, to be fair?

  • Pack right. You are likely going to roast one minute and freeze the next so get layers for sure. Even if your desert camp promises luxury, basically packing what works and is right for it, actually, often pays.
  • Haggle, I’m serious. Okay, so that might not exactly apply with the pre-paid for sections of a package like this. But, more or less, if you’re near marketplaces remember what a starting price is there, you know? Do your own homework! You will know how to react, you see? That also, often, helps to get in tune with what? Local traditions, alright?
  • Stay adaptable, will you? Honestly? When things take unexpected turns, as a matter of fact, simply laugh. Seriously; because what else are you going to do? As long as everyone stays fairly healthy, very? Those unplanned detours make a trip just that bit better, actually.
  • Do, absolutely, drink water! It is just so important to, you know, drink a lot, even when you may not feel so thirsty. Really though. Really! Honestly! Please. Seriously! Honestly.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Tour

Vehicles may differ. A bit comfy I guess.

Do those camps accommodate dietary needs?

Best is, basically, confirm what requirements the organizer knows beforehand.

Can you extend in Marrakech?

In that case I’d chat with the organizers ahead of the tour for what flexibility that provides.

Is the trip great for kids?

With these long distances in between locations, for this one; maybe it’s something I would reconsider because it may not hold the focus for the kids. That, possibly, isn’t that great a choice for really tiny, active people.
