Things To Think About Before You Book

Etna Weather

Firstly, weather conditions? I can tell you, at 3000m, like your bound to have weather, and I tell you it’s a bit of a game. That Mount Etna climate, it changes in a blink, going from sun to fog very fast, or mist, even rain. So you have to dress for everything. Layered clothing, right, plus waterproofs, anyway these are very important. Also Sturdy Footwear, almost. Make sure you wear, just, very good walking shoes or boots. That volcanic terrain, that is rough, just so the ash it slides around underfoot. The price? Going up Mount Etna like this, using cable cars and jeeps, anyway it’s not always very cheap. Just check what’s in the cost before you book, by the way, like the guide fee, your transport. Anything else? Some tours, basically, may not be suited to folks with certain health issues, very much so problems walking, also very, maybe certain heart conditions. That altitude can affect folk in ways they might expect, basically just check if it’s safe for you.

What to Pack for the Trek

Hiking Clothes

Clothing, layered. That’s one thing. Begin with thermal base layers. Bring an insulating mid-layer like a fleece or down jacket for added warmth. Take a waterproof and windproof outer shell jacket. Bring hiking pants or durable trousers, nothing like your casual wear, really. Wear hiking boots, they are almost something you can’t be without. And thick hiking socks too, as well as a warm hat, gloves or mittens and sunglasses with UV protection. Finally, and also very important, carry sunscreen and lip balm with SPF to guard against solar glare at higher altitudes, really that air, I think it is a bit on the thin side. Of course also be sure to have a water bottle and a backpack for all of it.

Is This Trip Right for You?

Etna Jeep Tour

Basically if you fancy doing a bit of walking, a bit more of sight-seeing, by the way, yet you want the best possible views without crazy hard work, the cable car and jeep Etna trek is basically something for you. It’s okay too for folk who do not have tons of time, just as it lets you reach altitude faster, in other words not spending ages getting there on foot. Also bear in mind you have some pretty uneven terrain underfoot, so this choice is likely best, just maybe, for folk who are reasonably okay walking and reasonably fit. Very small kids or folk with pretty significant health conditions, you see, probably, like your want something a bit more chilled. Anyway you should check first that the altitude change is fine, before doing something quite so physically taxing. But anyone else, the jeep/cable car trip, right, it is definitely like a not-too-wild means of seeing Etna at its best.
